WAR DECLARED!

WAR DECLARED!
cinops be gone – Memorial St. Ignatius of Loyola – Thursday. July 31, 2008

Why: “What I am doing I shall continue to do, depriving at every turn those who look of a chance to say that in their much vaunted ministry they work on the same terms as we do. Such men are false apostles. They practice deceit in their disguise as apostles of Christ. And little wonder! For even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. It comes as no surprise that his ministers disguise as ministers of the justice of God. But their end will correspond to their deeds.”
Liturgy of the Hours: 2nd letter of Apostle Paul to the Corinthians – 11: 7-29 p. 558

What I find incomprehensible with Catholic-in-name-only politicians throughout the country; do they not have any associates, Catholic friends or priests that can straighten them out and tell them how harmful they are to the faith of their fathers and authentic Catholicism? All of this is diabolical!

A. California Attorney General Heavily Biases Ballot Initiative Wording In Favor of
Same-Sex ‘Marriage’
Catholic-in-name only politician Jerry Brown has been a pain in the neck for Californians for decades. Brown has been threatened with a lawsuit by marriage defenders for altering the wording of the marriage ballot initiative to grossly bias it in favor of homosexual “marriage.” The original wording of Proposition 8 read that the measure would amend the state constitution to ensure that “only marriage between a man and woman is valid or recognized in California.” Brown’s altered version reads: it would “eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry.”

CINOPS BE GONE: DECLARES WAR ON ALL U.S.CATHOLIC IN NAME ONLY POLITICIANS FOR BEING IN FAVOR OF SAME-SEX MARRIAGE.

B. Massachusetts Passes Bill Allowing Same-Sex “Marriage” for Out-of-Staters
Today, July 30, 2008, the Massachusetts House voted 119-36 to pass a bill that will strike down a 1913 law blocking out of state homosexuals from “marrying” in the state. “With that protective barrier removed, out of state same-sex couples who marry here will sue to seek recognition in their home states – creating a flood of costly lawsuits and further eroding the people’s right to define marriage democratically,” said the Massachusetts Family Institute. (press release)

CINOPS BE GONE SPECIFICALLY DECLARES WAR ON CINO POLITICIANS IN MASSACHUSETTS WHO BLOCKED THE STATE MARRIAGE AMENDMENT FROM BEING ON THE BALLOT THIS NOV. THEY WERE BRIBED AND ARE CORRUPT.

C. Obama Opposes California Marriage Amendment While McCain Supports it
“I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states,” wrote Mr. Obama to a San Francisco homosexual activist group.
“I support the efforts of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution between a man and woman, just as we did in my home state of Arizona. I do not believe judges should be making these decisions,” Mr. McCain.

WE HAVE A WINNER!
cinops be gone Tuesday, July 29, 2008
Preface: The Headline in the Orange Country Register reads on Wednesday, Nov. 5th, 2008.

Life, Marriage and Rosie win the 47th Congressional District; This district includes the city of Anaheim, Garden Grove and Santa Ana. “America can never legalize same-sex marriage. If it did, it would not be America anymore.” GHK

In Orange County it was a two to one margin victory for Proposition 8 (Marriage is between a man and woman). This huge vote was needed to overcome the plurality of San Francisco values in other California Counties. It was also a great victory for congressional candidate Rosie Avila in a very close election.

Please volunteer your time and money to make the above a reality. It is time to unseat pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage Loretta Sanchez - this ten year old political and Catholic-in-name-only religious fraud in the center of Orange County. The Morgentaler Affair - Part 2

The Morgentaler Affair – Part 2
cinops be gone Monday, July 28, 2008
Dr. Henry Morgentaler is sincere but he was blinded by evil. Within the nation of Canada, there exists the evil of the elite secular mindset. The evils of the two A’s, the two E’s, and the two SS’s: That is what the CINOP blog is all about. The evils of abortion on demand, assisted suicide, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, & same-sex marriage screw up personal & public decision making.

All of the above does violence to common sense, reason and natural law. It is the dictatorship of moral relativism. Yet that is the mindset of the ten members of the Order of Canada advisory council. The nation needs to vomit this mindset out from their minds and hearts. Be not afraid. Be aware that Canada has been brainwashed for decades by left wing standards and propaganda. Their political correctness prostitutes the truth and we are influenced with this hogwash.

It is mainly Canadian Catholic-in-name only politicians who have been the nation’s shame and scandal. They were responsible for the passage of the same-sex marriage laws in Canada. They need to be voted out of office. I’d rather have a pro-life and marriage agnostic or atheist representative than these spineless politicians and traitors to the faith of their fathers and authentic Catholicism.

“Henry Morgentaler began his crusade for the legalization of abortion in the 1960s. The 1988 Supreme Court decision that bears his name removed all legal barriers to abandon at any stage of pregnancy – since then, nearly two million future citizens have lost their lives to abortion.
Morgentaler, himself a survivor of Dachau and Auschwitz concentration camps where he fought for his own survival, said he has performed more than 100,00 abortions. One may wonder if he ever took to heart the teaching of his own Jewish faith that says: ‘To destroy a single life is to destroy an entire world and to sustain a single life is to sustain an entire world.’” Father Thomas Rosica in the Toronto Sun, Comment, Monday, July 7, 2008. p. 19

“Morgentaler rose to prominence with his numerous arrests while fighting to legalize abortion in Canada, spending 10 months in jail during the 1970s.
After being charged, a landmark 1988 Supreme Court of Canada decision ruled the abortion section of the Criminal Code unconstitutional under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.” Marc Kichling, Toronto Sun, News, Thurs. July 3, 2008

Morgentaler is a sincere blind fanatic on abortion and believes that woman no longer die as a result of abortion. He has made millions of dollars with his abortion chambers. And that money elects politicians. There are six Morgentaler abortion sites across the country. How did he advise pregnant women?
“She (Vicky Green) was 12 weeks pregnant and was having second thoughts, ‘Dr. Morgentaler sat in front of me and I was crying. I told him I don’t want to do this to my baby. He said it is not a baby and that you will have other pregnancies.” Joe Warmington, Toronto Sun News, Thursday, July 3, 2008 p. 4

When the ten advisors decided to give Dr. Henry Morgentaler the Order of Canada, I don’t think any of his 100,000 women who had abortions were interviewed. Also, Henry’s personal lifestyle was not considered. Pray for him.

The Morgentaler Affair - Part 1

The Morgentaler Affair – Part 1
cinops be gone Sunday, July 27, 2008

Preface: “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one” (Mk 12:29). It is the core of Israel’s belief, and Jesus makes it the fundamental core of Christian belief as well. “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.”
Every one of these words is important. Before doing comes hearing – comes acceptance of reality, Man is a being that answers. If we are to act rightly, our gaze must first be pure and our ear open.
It is impossible to act rightly without truth. That is why the will to know the truth, to seek it humbly and with readiness to learn it, is the basic prerequisite of all morality. However well-meaning the questions may be as to what is profitable, what is effective and progressive for society, if it is divorced from the standard of truth, from God; it imperceptibly establishes power as the primary standard of mankind.
But truth is superior to human power; it must set the limit and be the standard of all power. Only if it does so can we become free and good. The fact that listening to the truth must precede all our actions means also that the will of God is superior to all our plans and projects…. Only one who regards humanity from God’s perspective is capable of loving mankind…. (This is today’s excerpt from Co-Workers of the Truth, by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Ignatius Press, 1992 p. 239-240)

This story takes place in Canada and it is happening now. We must realize that Canada has more than one albatross around its neck besides abortion on demand. It has same sex-marriage laws which it legalized three years ago. The established elite make decisions from that perspective. We focus mainly on the ten members of the Canadian advisory council who made the decision to award the “Order of Canada” to a doctor who personally did 100,000 abortions of the 2 million thus far in Canada. The Order of Canada was created in 1967 to honour those who have “enriched the lives of others and made a difference to this country.” It is obvious that the advisors believe that we are living in a post Judea-Christian world. And all Canadians need to adjust to this reality.

Let me share two poignant comments on the above. “What a wonderful day for secular humanism! We have now giving our seal of approval – our highest honor – to a system of thought that marginalizes the concerns of millions of religious people as irrelevant, elevates women to the status of Goddess (“It’s only a baby if I say it is”), and systematically eliminates unwanted children from society. Morgengaler isn’t the enemy he’s just the poster boy for the system.” Posted by Shnide and “What a black mark on Canada. We are a country known around the world for humanitarianism, yet at home we kill our own. It is not all Morganteler’s doing, but also those who allowed this practice, Posted by bbte (Posted comments on Toronto Star, thestar.com on Henry Morgentaler.)

The secular elite mindset that exists in Canada is about the same as we have in our country. Even with our judicial activists and monies, the death culture hasn’t got total control yet. It is why Proposition 8 – the marriage amendment is a do or die measure. Please attend a Marriage Amendment Rally this Thursday, July 31st – 5:30 to 8:00 PM at 1800 Katella Ave, Suite 210, Anaheim, Ca. 92867

OLD NEWS WITH TIMELESS TRUTHS:

THANK YOU PHILIP PULLELLA FROM YAHOO NEWS 4/24/07 GAY MARRIAGE EVIL, ABORTION TERRORISM: VATICAN ON YAHOO! NEWS, AND

STEVEN ERTELT, LIFENEWS.COM, EDITOR, 5-5/07 – CATHOLIC CHURCH OFFICIAL CALLS ABORTION A “TERRORISM” AGAINST PEOPLE. (FOR FREE DAILY/WEEKLY PRO-LIFE NEWS, E-MAIL US AT NEWS@LIFENEWS.COM )

The Vatican’s second-highest ranking doctrinal official on Monday forcefully branded homosexual marriage an evil and denounced abortion and euthanasia as forms of “terrorism with a human face.”

The attack by Archbishop Angelo Amato, secretary for the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, was the latest in a string of speeches made by either Pope Benedict or other Vatican officials as Italy considers giving more rights to gays.

In an address to chaplains, Amato said newspapers and television bulletins often seemed like “a perverse film about evil.” He denounced “evils that remain almost invisible” because the media presented them as “expressions of human progress.”

He listed as abortion clinics, which he called “slaughter houses of human beings,” euthanasia, “parliaments of so-called civilized nations where laws contrary to the nature of the human being are being promulgated, such as the approval of marriage between people of the same sex …”…

Amato, who is said to be very close to Pope Benedict, criticized the media’s coverage of ethical issues.

After denouncing “abominable terrorism” such as that carried out by suicide bombers, he condemned what he called “terrorism with a human face,” and accused the media of manipulating language “to hide the tragic reality of the facts.”

“For example, abortion is called ‘voluntary interruption of pregnancy’ and not the killing of defenseless human being, an abortion clinic is given a harmless, even attractive, name: ‘center for reproductive health’ and euthanasia is blandly called ‘death with dignity’,” he said in his address….

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

He said the shootings at Virginia Tech University are a result of the “daily ration of evil” that abortion has produced and he described the media’s presentation of abortion “as an expression of the ‘progress’ of humanity….

He also referred to abortion facilities and biotech labs as “laboratories where, for example RU-486, the morning after pill, is made or where human embryos are manipulated as if they were simply biological material.”

Who are you? Senator Obama

Rules of Engagement – 10 – Who Are You? Senator Obama
cinops be gone Sunday, July 20, 2008

Who are you, Senator Obama? I believe you have an identity crisis. You wrote in your book, Dreams of My Father, “I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.” “I found solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.” It is a tragedy that you and your wife Michelle were brainwashed with black liberation theology.

You have more than 80% of the news media rooting for you. That is corrupt, unfair and un-American. It reminds me of the party propaganda newspapers and radio outlets of Hitler, Stalin, and Castro.

To find out what you, Barack Obama stands for; let us check out a letter to the editor of National Catholic Register in March, 2008: THE NON-NEGOTIABLES

“In your editorial, “McCain and the Pro-Lifers” (March 2), you list seven or more things (bad things) that would probably happen if Clinton or Obama were elected. They had to do with the five “non-negotiable” issues that must always be opposed by Catholics; the things that would happen if either of these candidates were elected are directly opposite to what our Church teaches. It would be a disaster for our nation and any moral improvement in our country and the world.

We need black-and-white teaching. This editorial was excellent. Please repeat, as least the list of what probably would happen. Our Church teachers that all issues are not always absolutely right or wrong. But these “non-negotiables” are always wrong.

Thank you for strongly presenting true Roman Catholic teaching.
Margaret Isaack
Morgantown, West Virginia
Editor’s Note:

Both Obama and Clinton have records that are, for all practical purposes, 100% pro-abortion. Obama wouldn’t even protect children born alive by mistake during abortion attempts. If either of them wins, as one pro-life blogger pointed out, we will get:

Two more Supreme Court justices who consider abortion a right, plus more than more than a hundred Federal court appointments to foul our justice system for another 50 years. + federally funded embryonic stem-cell research, + federally funded cloning and “chimers” research +

federally funded abortion on demand + abortion in military hospitals +

federally funded abortion overseas + vicious regulatory attacks on pro-life doctors, nurses, clinics and non-profit groups + the repeal of conscience-clause exceptions for doctors and pharmacists + efforts to reclassify churches and pro-life activities, threatening their tax-exempt status + “the Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA), which is like the Human Life Bill in reverse – a federal statute mandating abortion on demand in every state, + the end of abstinence education, and + the end of the highly successful approach to AIDS in Africa that stresses abstinence and monogamy.”

It is also a tragedy that CINOPS directly & indirectly support the above agenda!

The Power of Prayer

Rules of Engagement – 9 – Power of Prayer
cinops be gone Saturday, July 19, 2008
Dallas, Texas, June 24, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com)
When Bishop Charles Grahmann began leading a monthly “Second Saturday Rosary” outside Dallas abortion clinics (mills) in 1990, there were 13 abortion clinics in the city. Seven clinics closed between 1990 and 2001, and after Aaron (Women’s Health Center, a late-term abortion facility) closes there will remain only 5 freestanding abortion clinics in Dallas. The Catholic Pro-Life Committee and others have vowed to continue to pray and offer alternatives to abortion outside those remaining five clinics, (mills)

The Catholic Pro-Life Committee has maintained a constant presence of peaceful prayer and sidewalk counseling in front of Aaron’s for over a decade and participated in a “ 40 Days for Life Prayer Vigil” there in 2004.”

During the 40 Days Vigil, a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week ecumenical effort was organized, with more than 800 people from 89 churches and several denominations praying and fasting for an end to the killing of babies inside the clinic. The above is a powerful and most inspiring story of the power of prayer.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Now we share an important e-mail from Alejandra Baker:
Alejandra.baker@gmail.com contact via title, “40 Days for Life.”

This Fall we want Orange County to join together with communities from across the county in the “40 DAYS FOR LIFE” campaign that will be held September 24 to November 2nd. (Crusade for Life had one in 2004.)

The 40 Days For Life Campaign consists of prayer, fasting (i.e. food, TV, internet etc.) and a peaceful vigil – outside a Planned Parenthood center or other abortion facility – to end abortion in America.

Why 40 days? God has used the period of 40 Days throughout history to bring about major transformation. (Noah, Moses, David, Elijah,Nineveh, Jesus and His disciples have experience transformation after a period of 40 Days.)

While nationally this campaign calls for a 24x7 hour vigil and cities with freezing temperatures have done it, we could begin working to cover the 9:00 am to 5:00 pm period and hopefully we could extend it as more people get involved, like other cities have done. (For more information, contact Alejandra Baker)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Why Prayer? Without prayer in California, we can’t pass Proposition 8 – The marriage amendment or Proposition 4 – Sarah’s Law (Parental Notif.) We need prayer to elect a pro-life president or for a defeat, and or conversion of CINOPS.

To get started, you may want to participate at the Abortion Facility @ 2445 W. Chapman, Orange, on Fridays – 9:10-10 A.M. (This mill also does abortions on Sunday mornings.) OR at the Abortion Site @ 2777 Long Beach Blvd. Long Beach,
On Wednesdays – 9:10-10 A.M. They do at least 30 or more abortions on that day. We have time to pray at least 2- 3 Mysteries of the Rosary.

10 Truths - Introduction & 1

10 Truths – Introduction & 1
cinops be gone Friday, July 18, 2008
It will take 10 years or more to vote out of office all CINOPS. The Friday postings only; of the following classic will inform us for this November election.

10 Truths about Christians & Politics- Coral Ridge Ministries-08 – 1 -800-988-7834

Introduction: Truths about God and Government – Excerpts 9-11

Our aim frankly, is to give historical and biblical perspective that will arm you for action. After all, the need is enormous – the cause of defending the unborn alone could absorb the energies of a lifetime.

At the September 2007 memorial service, Dr. James Dobson noted the passing in recent years of a number of Christian moral leaders, including Adrian Rogers, Jerry Falwell, Bill Bright, and D. James Kennedy. He asked who will fill the void left by these moral leaders.

“Who will defend the unborn child; who will speak for them? Who will speak for those who are older and no longer productive? Who will plead for the Terri Schiavos of the world who can be starved to death legally for having the misfortune of being disabled? Who has the courage to speak up to fight for the institution of marriage … and teach young people the dangers of heterosexual and homosexual promiscuity? Who will, in the next generation, be willing to take the heat when it much safer and comfortable to avoid controversy?”

Today, thankfully, we do not need to enter the gladiatorial arena like Tetramachus to stop the killing, but we do need the moral courage of men like Bright, Falwell, Kennedy, and Rogers if these and other evils in our culture are to be challenged.

We cannot wait for a new generation of leaders to rise up to lead us. Each of us must take responsibility for carrying out our own Christian civic duty in the arena of government and politics. Our prayer is that this booklet will help you understand more clearly some of the basic truths about Christian and politics so that you may, along with many others, enter the arena.

Truth 1 – The Foundation of Government and Politics is Religion 13-14
“Strictly separate.” When it comes to religion and politics, that is the rule announced by the courts and enforced by the American Civil Liberties Union over the past sixty years.

In 1947, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed a longstanding American legal tradition and declared that the U.S. Constitution has erected a “high and impregnable” wall of separation between church and state. The ACLU then set out to apply that ruling in the decades to follow, sending threatening letters and going into court to force civic officials to remove the ten Commandments display, crèche scenes, the Bible, and even prayer from public life.

But while the ACLU has been tireless in its effects to purge the Christian religion from public life, the truth is, religion is the foundation on which nations are built. ACLU attorneys may shudder at the thought, the Christian religion provides the surest foundation for the moral, political & social order of ournation.”

“Do not wait for leaders, do it on your own, person to person.” Blessed Mother Teresa.

Rules of Engagement - 7 - The Corapi Prophecy

Rules of Engagement – 7 – The Corapi Prophecy
cinops be gone Thursday, July 17. 2008
What’s this all about? This is the dire and awesome prophecy of Rev. John A Corapi’s DEATH WISH: The Impending Suicide of a once great nation. It is four pages long and maybe you can access it on www.fathercorapi.com .

Reverend Corapi hit the nail on the head when he said it was caused by the murderous war on the unborn and it was made respectable by the laws of our nation. They are the endangered species and little has been done to answer their terrified and silent screams from the womb. The following are excerpts:
“When law divorces itself from common sense and spawns the illegitimate offspring of distortions of law, resulting in illegal laws – based neither on the natural law nor divine law – this undermines law itself, generating disdain for the law. Erosion of trust in the courts, or systems in general, is inevitable….

In recent years, it took the form of self-inflicted heart wound when some dissident Catholics rejected the teaching of the Church, a teaching that clearly held that artificial contraception is intrinsically evil. Then, as Pope Paul VI warned, it metastasized into abortion. From abortion it degenerated even further into partial-birth abortion. It was then a short and easy step to infanticide…. We march toward the abyss of oblivion, a society marked for death….

IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE DEGENERATED TO THE POINT THAT WE’LL MURDER A HELPLESS BABY SHOULD IT ESCAPE THE VIOLENCE OF AN ABORTION AND BE BORN ALIVE. CAN A CATHOLIC VOTE FOR SUCH A PERSON? We are told, “yes” for a “proportionate reason.” What I might ask, is the proportionate reason so weighty as to excuse supporting those responsible for what is tantamount to genocide?...

This death wish has marched towards its logical and inexorable conclusion with little opposition from leaders – political, legal, or religious…. WEAK LEADERSHIP, WHETHER IN SOCIETY IN GENERAL, OR IN THE CHURCH IN PARTICULAR, IS PUNISHMENT FOR SIN. THE OLD COVENANT HAS EXAMPLES ENOUGH OF THE CHOSEN PEOPLE BEING TURNED OVER TO EXILE AND THEIR ENEMIES BECAUSE OF INFIDELITY…. In recent times large numbers of Catholics and other Christians rejected Pope Paul VI’s landmark and prophetic encyclical Humanae Vitae, on Human Life. A majority of the bishops of Canada did so publicly, formally, and in writing with their infamous Winnipeg Statement.

The great Archbishop Fulton Sheen lamented bitterly in the 1970’s that the prophetic spirit of Christ has all but been extinguished in the contemporary Church…. Are we cowed and intimidated by fallacious notions of the separation of Church and state? … Have we declared détente with evil?

The clock is ticking. Midnight is approaching…. Will God turn his friends over to His enemies as He has done multiple times in the past? Will radical Islam overrun us? Will one too many natural disasters grind us into dust? Will we collapse economically? …

And indeed, “If destruction be our lot we ourselves will be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”

May God grant us the grace to awake from this deadly moral slumber, renounce the death wish, and live like truly free men and women – in the glorious freedom of the children of God.” Rev. John Corapi, SOLT – 2008

Catholic Excuses: 6-24

Catholic Excuses: 6 – 24
cinops be gone Wednesday, July 16, 2006
We continue with excerpts from Chapter 5 - Catholic Excuses in David Carlin’s book, Can a Catholic be a Democrat? This is tough love and the truth hurts.

47. Social Welfare: “We should be more concerned with children already born.”
Often heard as an adjunct to the “seamless garment” excuse is this argument: “You pro-lifers are tremendously concerned about the well being of the unborn baby, but we notice that you lose interest in the baby once it’s born. You don’t support daycare, welfare, and other programs that would lead to happier, healthier lives for children. Your pro-life philosophy is inconsistent, and you personally are hypocrites.”
Two replies can be made to this charge. First, it’s false. When moral conservatives object to social programs such as state-funded daycare and generous welfare payments, it’s usually because they believe that such programs ultimately harm the children by gradually undermining two-parent families. Who can deny that the institution of the married two-parent family is better for children than daycare, welfare, and the like? P. 125

If anybody is hypocritical in this discussion, it’s moral liberals, who profess to be concerned about kids living in poverty yet endorse the ethic of sexual liberation, which for the last three or four decades has contributed greatly to an epidemic of divorce and out-of-wedlock births, pauperizing women and dooming tens of millions of kids to grow up without fathers.126

48. Anti-Hypocrisy: “Conservatives defy the Church too.”
“You fault me as an inconsistent Catholic because I support the Democratic Party,” a Catholic Democrat might say to a morally conservative Catholic pro-lifer who has turned against the Democratic Party. “But this is the case of the pot calling the kettle black. You favor the war in Iraq & the death penalty, yet both of these are condemned by the Church...
Let’s leave aside the question of whether John Paul II’s calls for peace and diplomacy meant he actually believed the American invasion of Iraq to be immoral. For no matter what he thought about the moral status of the war, who can be surprised that he would make a plea for further diplomacy? Calling for peaceful solutions is one of the things you do if you’re pope. …
The Church has a traditional teaching as to what constitutes a “just war,” but there has been no definitive dogmatic pronouncement that the Iraq war in particular was an unjust war: the Church does not make dogmatic statements about things like that. Some Catholics (perhaps the pope among them) held that the war was unjust by Catholic just-war standards; other Catholics, using the same standards held that the war was just. To disagree with the pope’s putative opinion on the Iraq war doesn’t involve rejection of any Catholic doctrine; but to “disagree with the pope”- John Paul II or Benedict XVI or any pope – on abortion is much more than a personal divergence of opinion….it is to reject the authority of the Church itself by dissenting from one of its ancient moral doctrines…. 127
The ancient teaching of the Church is that capital punishment can, in principle, be justified, and the many anti-death penalty statements made by John Paul II in the last twenty years or so do not constitute a repudiation of that teaching. What the pope did say is that the death penalty, while still acceptable as a matter of principle, is for practical purposes unwarranted in modern societies with effective criminal justice system. As a sign to the world of the preciousness of human life, then, criminals who could otherwise be justifiably executed should instead be imprisoned until natural death…. 128

The Rules of Engagement - 5- Cardinal J. Rigali

The Rules of Engagement – 5 – Cardinal Justin Rigali
cinops be gone Tuesday, July 15, 2008
The following is a classic by Cardinal Justin Rigali on Faith and the Eucharist”

Cardinal Rigali is the President of the Pro-Life Committee of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. He discussed with LifeSiteNews.com June 20, 2008 in Quebec City at the International Eucharistic Congress: THE ISSUE OF WORTHINESS TO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION IN THE CONTEXT OF CATHOLICS WHO SUPPORT ABORTION AND SAME-SEX “MARRIAGE,” CONTRARY TO CHURCH TEACHING.

“We’re talking about the very life of the church when we’re talking about the Eucharist and participation in the Eucharist,” said Cardinal Rigali. “St. Paul tells us that anyone who receives the Eucharist must be prepared. This is the apostolic catechesis.”

“St. Justin in the second century tells us: “The only people who are to go to Communion are people who believe everything we believe’. So it’s a question of our faith.”

The Cardinal referenced St. Paul warning that, “Anyone that approaches then body of Christ has to examine himself to see where he stands, because if you’re not worthy then you’re heaping condemnation on yourself.”

The Cardinal noted that there are “many people who are confused on the faith, many people are confused on the issue of life,” that is why he said, “the Church has been putting in so much effort to try to clarify the absolute necessity to support, to promote, to cherish human life, & not to do anything to destroy it.”

“We invite people to come to the Eucharist,” he said. “but we are constantly reminding them, ‘just a moment now’ this belongs to our tradition – the Eucharist is not just something we just receive, it’s the body of Christ.”

“We have to accept the teachings on the body of Christ and we have to accept the teaching of the body of Christ, which is the Church, on other things to be fully worthy,” he said.

While he said that the prime responsibility is that of the person to examine himself before God regarding his worthiness to receive Communion, Cardinal Rigali added that “obviously the Church has an obligation to safeguard the Eucharist against abuses.”

“We teach children who prepare for first Holy Communion to be worthy, to be in the state of grace, he said. “That’s what we tell everybody – you have to be in the state of grace.”

He concluded: “To be in the state of grace you must embrace what the Church embraces, you have to embrace the faith of the Church, and you’re not free to receive the Eucharist if you don’t embrace the faith of the Church. This is St. Paul, this is St. Justin, this is the whole history of the Church.”

Preface: Let’s begin with something uplifting: Remembering Tony Snow – 1955-2008
Yesterday, Saturday evening and all through this coming week Fox News will have many tributes to this remarkable man. He was a tremendous husband, father and regular guy.

He was a man of integrity, courage, character, great optimism and deep faith. He was a Catholic convert and a role model and example for everyone. He was charismatic and an old-fashioned sincere patriot. He was in the public area specifically as White House Press secretary and many other areas of public service. Tony fought colon cancer for three years. He left a wife and three children. God bless him! Enlighten your people, Lord.

What a contrast Tony Snow is to the following. When it comes to family values, marriage and the unborn, you can’t trust Catholic-in-name only politicians. I hate a raw deal. These Catholic label politicians are getting away with murder. They are con-artists using the Catholic label. Let’s focus on a few CINOPS in Orange County. They have no respect for the views of their constituents in matters of family, parental rights, marriage etc.

All these CINOPS may be great on material things but man does live on bread alone.
We have legislator Assemblyman Jose Solorio on two critical votes in the 2007 Legislative Scorecard for the California State Assembly.
1.) Bill AB 43 (Laird) - Allows homosexual marriages, despite Proposition 22’s ban. SOLARIO VOTED YES – (Thankfully, the Governor vetoed this bill.)

2.)Bill SB777 (Kuehl) – Requires homosexual indoctrination in public schools. PROHIBITS DISCUSSION OF TRADITIONAL FAMILIES AND FAMILY VALUES. SOLORIO VOTED YES – This law was signed into law.

State Senator Lou Correa did not vote in # 1 but voted for # 2. He is my district. In 2006, I talked to him and he claimed he was for Proposition 85 – parental notification. What good does that do when his political party sends out information to his constituents that tell them to vote No? This is one main reason why Proposition 85 did not pass. His political party is going to do the same for Proposition 8 –the marriage amendment and proposition 4 – Sarah’s law, A NO VOTE.
The CINOP is an enemy of traditional America!

Now let us check out eight voting decisions of Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.
1,) Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act- passage (110th) FROM SCORECARD OF
Loretta voted YES, and against the Catholic position. CATHOLICS IN CONGRESS
2.) Marriage Amendment Act (109th) CATHOLIC ADVOCATE A
Loretta voted NO, and against the Catholic position. PROJECT OF THE MORLEY
3.) Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act (109th) FOR CHURCH &Culture
Loretta voted NO, and against the Catholic position.
4.) Abortion in military medical facilities (109th)
Loretta voted YES, and against the Catholic position.
5.) Coercive abortion, United Nations Population Fund (109th)
Loretta voted YES, and against the Catholic position.
6.) Unborn Children Pain Awareness Act (109th)
Loretta voted NO, and against the Catholic position.
7.) Partial-Birth Abortion Ban: passage (108th)
Loretta voted NO, and against the Catholic position.
8.) Unborn Victims of Violence Act (108th)
Loretta voted NO, and against the Catholic position.

Thankfully, we will have grassroots volunteers who we will pass out this information to voters in their districts and prayerfully you will be one of them.

The Rules of Engagement - 4 - Dr. James C. Dobson

The Rules of Engagement – 4 – Dr. James C. Dobson
cinops be gone Saturday, July 12, 2008

As I recall during World War II the Allied powers were fighting the Axis powers and we won. We were a strong traditional and patriotic America.

Today, we have another real war going on in America. It’s a war that the Culture of Death has against traditional America. All Americans and Christian organizations should be well informed allies in this struggle. But they are not. Some are blind to our enemies, the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and the corrupt news media. For example, if we had the same kind of news media reporting in World War II like we have today on Iraq; we would have lost World War II to Hitler. Now let us turn to one of our major allies in the war for traditional America.

Family News from Focus on the Family Dr. James Dobson – June 2008

Marriage is not simply a Judeo-Christian concept, although it finds its origin in the Garden of Eden. The Creator said to Adam and Eve, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24, niv).
That is the way it has always been. But now four members of the California Supreme Court have come to a different conclusion. They intend to jettison the divine plan and, in so doing, have opened the door to polygamy, group marriage and who knows what else. In his daily update following the shocking ruling, Gary Bauer, president of American Values, highlighted several telling and provocative quotes related to the case. In the first one, he noted that, to their credit, three justices vigorously opposed the same-sex ruling. Writing for the majority, Justice Marvin Baxter stated prophetically:

“The majority … simply does not have the right to erase, then recast the age-old definition of marriage, as virtually all societies have understood it, in order to satisfy it own contemporary notions of equality and justice. The California

Constitution says nothing about the rights of same-sex couples to marry. On the contrary, as the majority concedes, our original Constitution, effective from the moment of statehood, evidenced an assumption that marriage was between partners of the opposite sex.”

How did the ACLU perceive victory? Exactly as you would expect. They are ecstatic. Challenges to state marriage amendments and the federal Defense of Marriage Act are coming. Here are portions of a message sent to supporters of the ACLU following the California decision.

“We won the marriage case in California. No need for hyperbole here; this is big. … And as New York Times recently pointed out, the California Supreme Court is the most influential state high court in America…. Marriage in California will transform the discussion of marriage nationwide…. The fact that California is marrying same-sex couples will put considerable pressure on the rest of the country to recognize those marriages. Even more important, the rest of the country recognizes that California is America’s cultural trendsetter, that cultural change in California is usually a preview of what is to come in the rest of the United States…. This was a prize of inestimable value.”

Planned Parenthood
cinops be gone Thursday, July 10, 2008
San Francisco Values Agenda is what the California legislature is shoving down our minds for brainwashing. What we have with AB 2010 is a bought-off legislature which includes Cinops? They don’t care about the health and safety of pregnant women, Planned Parenthood’s use of word clinic is false. It is not a healing place. It is a killing place. The correct word usage is mill, facility or site.

The California Right to Life has this urgent message and action needed.
STOP AUTHORIZATION OF BACK ALLEY ABORTION CLINICS.

Planned Parenthood has with the aid of Assemblyman Mark DeSaulner (D-Concord) slipped another one over on the unsuspecting public. Desaulnier, authored AB 2010 – Affiliate Clinics; Provisional License, which flew through both houses of the state legislature and Is on its way to the Governor.

AB 2010 WOULD ALLOW BRANCH CLINICS OF ALREADY ESTABLISHED ABORTION CLINICS TO BE OPENED & APPROVED WITHOUT ANY INSPECTION.
Basically this bill: “Amends existing law that regulates the licensure and opening of clinics, including community clinics and primary care clinics, and permits a primary care clinic to file an application to establish another clinic at an additional site which shall be known as an affiliate clinic, and a clinic or an applicant for a license that has not been previously licensed. Exempt an affiliate clinic from this program.”

TAKE ACTION; Communicate with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and urge the veto of AB 2010 as a public health and safety issue. Abortion mills should not be allowed to bypass the health and safety laws of our state. Finally, I got to a Stacy who took my message. Also, I mailed a postcard to the Governor, State Capitol Building, Sacramento, CA. 95814. Tel. 916-445-2841 – Fax 916-558-3160

Billy Graham stated, “Christianity grew because its adherents were not silent … They stormed against the evils of their day until the very foundation of decadent Rome began to crumble.” “Is the Church doing that today?” Graham asked that question in 1962.

Three years later, one prominent pastor answered it with an unqualified “No.” “Believing the Bible as I do, I would find it impossible to stop preaching the pure saving gospel of Jesus Christ and begin doing anything else – including fighting communism or participating in civil rights reforms….Preachers are not called to be politicians but to be soul winners…. Nowhere are we commissioned to reform the externals. The gospel does not clean up the outside but regenerate the inside.” That was Jerry Falwell in 1965. By 1979, when he formed the Moral Majority with D. James Kennedy and other Christian leaders, he had come to a dramatically different understanding of the Christian’s civic responsibilities. P. 4

The Rules of Engagement - 2

The Rules of Engagement – 2
Two good guys’ politicians
cinops be gone Wednesday, July 9, 2008
One of the reasons President George Bush is hated is because he is a Christian pro-life politician. (I believe that is a badge of honor.) During the National Right to Life Conference in Arlington, Virginia on July 3rd, the audience was honored by the President with a video address.

LifesSiteNews.com July 4/08 reports that the president commended the audience for their “commitment to protecting the unborn.” He exclaimed, “The nations Declaration of Independence exists to give the right to live to the unborn.”

“I have proudly stood with you to make sure this nation stands up for this noble promise,” continued Bush, joining himself with the crowd. “For eight years we have stood together to defend the principle that every human life has value.”
Bush fought to keep taxpayers’ dollars from funding abortions and reminded them that he had signed the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which “allows prosecutors to charge those who harm a pregnant woman and who harm or kill her unborn child as well.” He described the importance of the Born Alive Protection Act, which forces health care facilities to protect those babies who have survived botched abortions. He also went on to advocate stem-cell research, provided it does not terminate human life.

Presidential candidate John McCain also gave a video address:
“More than 200 years ago our nation’s founder declared that we are endowed with certain inalienable rights and among these is the right to life.” “It was no accident that they cited life as the first and most basic right. Without exception of the right to life, we are not guaranteed any other rights.”

“I have been pro-life my entire public career and I am pro-life because I know what it’s like to live without human rights and where life is accorded no value.” McCain’s votes supported the banning of partial-birth abortions and opposed the Roe v. Wade decision.

“Wisdom suggests we should be willing to give an unborn child the same chance our parents gave us,” McCain added. “We can’t fail to respect the inherent dignity of all human life born and unborn.”

“I will appoint Supreme Court nominees who have a proven record of excellence in the law and a proven commitment to strictly interpreting the Constitution,” McCain said.

McCain widened his focus to encompass all those at risk from the culture of death, saying American needs to “protect the lives of the most vulnerable whether they are unborn, the elderly or disabled.”

An early Christian Tetramachus, stepped in to the Roman gladiator arena around 400 A.D. in an attempt to end the Roman blood sport. He was cut down as he tried to pull the combatants apart, but this courageous and lonely example prompted Emperor Honorius to abolish the games.

Into the Arena: Christians, today, however, are none to eager to follow Tetramachus into the arena. Billy Graham wrote many years ago that in the face of our culture’s social problems, Christians are too often “afflicted with moral laryngitis.” P. 1

Against the Culture of Death
cinops be gone Tuesday, July 8, 2008
The above title reminds us that the culture of death advocates have been at war with traditional America for years. We are in a state of war and the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who remain neutral during this moral crisis.

Our spiritual role model is Pope John Paul the Great. In his encyclical the “Gospel of Life” the pope coined what is happening in America: a culture of death.

There is nothing in the writings of our Founding Fathers that support the two A’s, the two E’s and the two SS’s. The evils of Abortion on demand, Assisted-Suicide, Euthanasia, Embryonic Stem Cell Research, and Same-Sex Marriage:

We have a secular elitist aristocracy that looks down on ordinary folks and people of faith. It was best expressed by Obama’s comment to the San Francisco value elitists that Middle Americans have turned to God and guns and against immigrants because they are “bitter” about their economic lot.

Our norm is truth, common sense, right reason, natural law & nature’s God.

The Trojan Horses that support the culture of death are numerous. ACLU, Planned Parenthood, NARAL,Billionaire George Soros, CINOP Nancy Pelosi, Many CEOs of Corporations, the corrupt News Media including Orange County Register.

The ACLU is the most dangerous and powerful anti-Christian organization in the U.S.A, We defeated Dukakis as a card carrying member of the ACLU. It wouldn’t surprise me that Obama is also a card-carrying member of the ACLU.

Pope Benedict XVI has written, “The truth was available to them, but they did not want the obligation it would entail… People oppose the truth that would place demands upon them – demands such as the worship of God and the giving of thanks. (Rom.1-21) … When we place our own will, our own pride, our own comfort above the demands of truth, it is inevitable that everything will fall ultimately into decay. God to whom worship is due, will not longer be worshipped; instead, images, appearances, the prevailing point of view will hold humanity in thrall. This universal distortion will spread to all walks of life. What is contrary to nature will become the norm; the individual who lives contrary to truth, lives contrary to nature. (July 3rd entry, Co-Workers of the Truth, Ignatius Press, 1992)

To win we will need a lot of prayer and all the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We work with other Christians to pass Proposition 8, the constitutional California marriage amendment. Resolve to make it the focus of attention in each state of the union. It is also on the ballot in Florida and possibly Arizona. It was stolen from the ballot in Iowa and Massachusetts. There is a lot of precinct work to do.

In the rules of engagement, we have the heritage of documents from the Catholic Church, the writings and talks by Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, Coral Ridge and Associate Ministries and many others.

There is a classic book which I want to share with you within the next 50 engagements. It is titled “10 Truths about Christian and Politics” Coral Ridge Ministries, P.O. 1920, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33302, 1-800-988-7884

Introduction: Christianity is a revolutionary religion. It not only changes individuals. It changes cultures. In the first century, it did not take long before the shift in the moral universe introduced by Christ and his followers had struck a nerve. An angry mob at Thessalonica called for the arrest of Christian missionaries, Paul and Silas, charging that “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too” (Act 17:6) We will do the same in America.

Between Man and Woman - 2 of 2

Between Man and Woman 2 of 2
cinops be gone Sunday, July 6, 2008
(Talking points on Marriage: check out the month of May in the blog – cinops be gone.)

5.) Why is it so important to society that marriage be preserved as the exclusive union of a man and a woman?
Across times, cultures, and very different religious beliefs, marriage is the foundation of the family. The family in turn is the basic unit of society. Thus, marriage is a personal relationship with public significance….
The marital union also provides the best conditions for raising children: namely, the stable, loving relationship of a mother and a father present only in marriage. The state rightly recognizes this relationship as public institution in its laws because the relationship makes a unique and essential contribution to the common good. (Publication No 5-626 USCCB Publishing, 1-800-235-8722)

6.) Does denying marriage to homosexual person demonstrate unjust discrimination and a lack of respect for them as person?
It is not unjust to deny legal status to same-sex unions because marriage and same-sex unions are essentially different realities. In fact, justice requires society to do so.
To uphold God’s intent for marriage, in which sexual relations have a proper and exclusive place, is not to offend the dignity of the homosexual persons. Christians must give witness to the whole moral truth and oppose as immoral both homosexual acts and unjust discrimination against homosexual persons.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church urges that homosexual persons “be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity” (no. 2358). It also encourages chaste friendships. “Chastity is expressed notably in friendship with one’s neighbor. Whether it develops between persons of the same or opposite sex, friendship represents a great good for all” (no. 2347).

7.) Should persons who live in same-sex relationships be entitled to some of the same social and economic benefits given to married couples?
The state has an obligation to promote the family, which is rooted in marriage. Therefore, it can justly give married couples rights and benefits it does not extend to others,… the stability and flourishing of society is dependent on the stability and flourishing of healthy family life.
The legal recognition of marriage, including the benefits associated with it, is not only about personal commitment, but also about the social commitment that the husband and wife make to the well being of society. IT WOULD BE WRONG TO REDEFINE MARRIAGE FOR THE SAKE OF PROVIDING BENEFITS TO THOSE WHO CANNOT RIGHTFULLY ENTER INTO MARRIAGE….

8.) In the light of the Church’s teaching about the truth and beauty of marriage, what should Catholics do?
There is no separation between one’s faith and life in either public or private realms. All Catholics should act on their beliefs with a well-formed conscience based on Sacred Scripture and Tradition. They should be a community of conscience within society. By their voice and their vote they should contribute to society’s welfare and test its public life by the standards of right reason and Gospel truth. Responsible citizenship is a virtue. Participation in the political process is moral obligation. …

In closing America will never accept same-sex marriage. If it does, it will not be America anymore. California’s Proposition 8 on Marriage is a do or die measure.

Between Man and Woman - 1 of 2

Between Man and Woman 1 of 2
cinops be gone Saturday, July 5, 2008
Talking Points:
The primary election issue is marriage. Same-sex marriage is not normal and contrary to the laws of nature. It is a made-up dictatorship of modern relativism. The definition of marriage has always been between a man and a woman. Same-sex marriage will cause an identity crisis in young children.

A.) Questions and Answers about Marriage and Same-Sex Unions: This is from US Confer. Of Catholic Bishops – Publication No. 5-626 – Call toll free- 800-235-8722
A growing movement today favors making those relationships commonly called same-sex unions the legal equivalent of marriage. This situation challenges Catholics – and all who seek the truth – to think deeply about the meaning of marriage, its purposes, and its value to individuals, families, and society….

1.) What is Marriage?
Marriage, as instituted by God, is a faithful, exclusive, lifelong union of a man and a woman joined in an intimate community of life and love. They commit themselves completely to each other and to the wondrous responsibility of bringing children into the world and caring for them. The call to marriage is woven deeply into the human spirit. Man and woman are equal. However, as created, they are different from but made for each other….
These truths about marriage are present in the order of nature and can be perceived by the light of human reason. They have been confirmed by divine Revelation in Sacred Scripture.

2.) What does our faith tell us about marriage?
Marriage comes from the loving hand of God, who fashioned both male and female in the divine image (see Gn 1:27). The man recognizes the woman as “bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh” (Gn 2:23) God blesses the man woman and commands them to “be fertile and multiply.”…
Marriage is both a natural institution and a sacred union because it is rooted in the divine plan for creation. In addition, the Church teaches that the valid marriage of baptized Christians is a sacrament – a saving reality, Jesus Christ made marriage a symbol of his love for his Church (see Eph 5: 25-33) … A true marriage in the Lord with his grace will bring the spouses to holiness.

3.) Why can marriage exist only between a man and a woman?
The natural structure of human sexuality makes man and woman complementary partners for the transmission of human life. Only a union of male and female can express the sexual complementarity willed by God for marriage….
(See CCC, nos. 1639-1640)
In marriage, husband and wife give themselves totally to each other in their masculinity and femininity. (See CCC, no. 1643)

4.) Why is a same-sex union not equivalent to a marriage?
For several reasons a same-sex union contradicts the nature of marriage. It is not based on the natural complementarity of male and female; it cannot cooperate with God to create new life; and the natural purpose of sexual union cannot be achieved by a same-sex union. Persons in same-sex unions cannot enter into a true conjugal union. Therefore, it is wrong to equate their relationship to a marriage. Continued tomorrow

The Challenge of Forming Consciences For Faithful Citizenship

The Challenge of Forming Consciences
For Faithful Citizenship
cinops be gone Thursday, July 3, 2008

Preface: A July 4th Salute to America: For immigrants there is no country in the world greater than America. That alone tells us how great America is! And that a traditional Judeo-Christian America is worth fighting for. GHK – immigrant

Now for the U.S. bishops’ reflection: A print version of titled document is free at www.faithfulcitizenship.org. What follows are excerpts from each section.

Our nation faces political challenges that demand urgent moral choices…
A culture built on families, where some now question the value of marriage and family life. We pride ourselves on supporting human rights, but we fail even to protect the fundamental right to life, especially for unborn children.

We bishops seek to help Catholics form their consciences in accordance with the truth, so they can make sound moral choices in addressing these challenges. We do not tell Catholics how to vote. The responsibility to make political choices rests with each person & his or her properly formed conscience.

1.) Why Does the Church Teach About Issues Affecting Public Policy?
The Church’s obligation to participate in shaping the moral character of society is a requirement of our faith, a part of the mission given to us by Jesus Christ. Faith helps us to see more clearly the truth about human life and dignity that we also understand through human reason.

2.) Who in the Church Should Participate in Political Life?
In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participate in political life is a moral obligation. As Catholics, we should be guided more by our moral convictions than by our attachment to a political party or interest group.

3.How Does the Church Help Catholics to Address Political and Social Questions?
“Conscience is a judgment of reason whereby the human person recognizes the moral quality of a concrete act…. {Every person} is obliged to follow faithfully what he {or she} knows to be just and right” (Catechism of the
Catholic Church, no. 1778). We Catholics have a lifelong obligation to form our consciences in accord with right human reason, enlightened by the teaching of Christ as it comes to us through the Church.

4.) The Virtue of Prudence:
The Church also encourages Catholics to develop the virtue of prudence, which enables us “to discern our true good in every circumstance and to choose the right means of achieving it.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1806)…
A good end does not justify an immoral means. At times Catholics may choose different ways to respond to social problems, but we cannot differ on our obligation to protect human life and dignity and help build through moral means a more just and peaceful world.

5.) Doing Good and Avoiding Evil:
A preeminent example is the intentional taking of human life through abortion. It is always morally wrong to destroy innocent human beings. A legal system that allows the right to life to be violated on the grounds of choice is fundamentally flawed. Similarly, direct threats to the dignity of human life such as euthanasia, human cloning, and destructive research of human embryo are also intrinsically evil and must be opposed. …

Catholic Excuses 5 -23

Catholic Excuses 5 – 23
Your family access to the blog is: cinops be gone Tuesday, July 1, 2008
(Correction: yesterday’s “Catholic Social Studies Principles” s/b Cath. Soc. Justice Pr.)

It is an honor to have David Carlin’s book, Can a Catholic Be a Democrat? on this blog for the 23rd time. We are in Chapter 5 section, Catholic Excuses, p. 115-125. It’s about voting for a political party of abortion, same-sex marriage and embryonic stem cell research. These are not prudential issues but absolutely intrinsically evil issues. Catholics can disagree on the prudential issues.

What follows are direct excerpts which will help for instance, explain the mind-set of Obama’s National Catholic Advisors today and their supporters.

44. The Primacy of Conscience: “Nothing is right or wrong, but thinking makes it so,”

“And of course, since average human nature has a great capacity for self-deception, this Catholic politician will find that his “honest” feelings can be strongly influenced by those who hold the key to his political future. He won’t heed Natural Law or the pronouncements of the popes, but he will heed the wishes of the constituents – and especially the wishes of his major campaign contributors.
Cardinal Newman held that the voice of conscience was the voice of God within us. It’s obvious, then, that Newman never had the privilege of meeting a twenty-first century Catholic Democratic member of Congress. For if he had, he would have realized that sometimes the “voice of conscience” is the voice of ideologues, usually those with deep pockets.”

45. The Seamless Garment: “We must be concerned with all life issues.”

“Another method Catholics use to validate their membership in the Democratic Party, despite the party’s anti-Christian moral agenda, goes like this: they concede that abortion for example, is morally wrong and that it’s tragically wrong for the Democratic Party to support it; but then they talk about what they need for “balance” and the importance of not taking a single-issue approach to politics. “The Democrats,” they say, “might be wrong on a few issues, such as abortion and same-sex marriage – but they are right about so many other important issues: race, poverty, peace, education, health care, the environment” …

46. “At all events, in the end, Bernadin’s “consistent ethic of life” proposal came to nothing of significance. Its only lasting consequence can be found in the Catholics who misunderstood it (deliberately, in more than a few cases), invoking the seamless to rationalize their support for liberal Democratic politicians. “I’m sorry to have to admit that Sen. X is wrong on abortion,” they said, “But please note that he’s right on everything else that the late, great Cardinal Bernardin was concerned about: taxes, health care, education, welfare, racism, sexism, war, capital punishment, and anything else you can mention. His consistent ethic-of-life record is eighty or ninety percent – not perfect, but far better than the record of his so-called ‘pro-life’ Republican opponent.”

“This superficially persuasive line of reasoning could have been used to support the Nazis in the 1930s. A pro-Nazi Catholic could say, “Oh yes, it’s too bad – the policy of the Fuehrer toward the Jews. We deplore the firing of Jewish professors, we deplore the Nuremberg laws, we deplore Kristellnacht. But anti-Semitism, while a great evil, isn’t the only evil. Far from it. We have to balance the evil done by the National Socialists against the good they’ve accomplished. Hitler has revived the economy, has restored law and order, has built autobahns and VW… Are they better than the available alternatives – namely, socialist and communists? The answer to this question is, without doubt, yes.”
