Again and again Pope Benedict XVI focuses on the truth. Whatever it may be, most of us are afraid of the truth. If we face the truth directly we are free; otherwise we become slaves to half-truths and it becomes part of our lives when we view reality. If we are too busy to share and speak the truth: lies will prevail.

Thankfully, renowned writer George Weigel, “The Catholic Difference” hit the nail on the head in his article in the Los Angeles The Tidings, July 24/09.
Benedict XVI and the Truth about Charity

... sundry partisans sought to capture Caritas in Veritate as a weapon with which to bolster the Obama administration’s economic, health care and social welfare policies… self-consciously progressive Catholic magazines, bloggers and freelances, many of whom would have preferred to eat ground glass rather than see Joseph Ratzinger as Bishop of Rome, blasting those who dared raise questions about the encyclical’s intellectual provenance and some of its formulations.
Where were these stout-hearted crusaders when the going was tough – when, for example, the pope was under fire for his Regensburg Lecture on Islam, or for attempting to reconcile four excommunicated Lefebvrist bishops to the Church?...

In any event, there is an important theme in Caritas in Veritate that were all Catholics to take it seriously, might have measurable impact on the American culture wars and on the U.S. Church’s internal struggle to define Catholic identity – and that is the encyclical insistence several times, THAT THE LIFE ISSUES ARE SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES, so that Catholic social doctrine includes the Church’s defense of life from conception until natural death.

This teaching began with John Paul II’s 1995 encyclical, Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life), in which John Paul warned that democracies risk to become “tyrant states” if moral wrongs are legally declared “rights.”

The Cardinal Ratzinger went a step further in his homily at the Mass for the Election of a Pope, on April 18, 2005. THERE RATZINGER WARNED AGAINST A “DICTATORSHIP OF RELATIVISM” in which coercive power would be used to enforce the by-products of a culture skeptical about the human capacity to know the moral truth of anything; by-products such as ABORTION-ON-DEMAND, EUTHANASIA, AND GAY-MARRIAGE.”…

Caritas in Veritate has now put Catholic legislators and politicians on notice: you can’t duck the life issues, or vote the wrong way on the life issues, by hiding behind an alleged commitment to the Church’s social justice agenda...

That is what Roe v. Wade and its judicial progeny have done in the United States; that is why laws protective of life from conception until natural death are an imperative of social justice; that is why “common ground” efforts to lower the incidence of abortion, while welcome, are inadequate from the point of view of Catholic social doctrine – the moral equivalent of saying, in 1955, “OK, let’s see if we can’t get you black folks into one or two segregated restaurants in every county.”…

2 Chron. 7:14 in God’s Word, He states, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

She voted against the ban on partial-birth abortions at least eight times.

On marriage, she is the most radically anti-marriage member of Congress, and she works hard for the radical agenda

She is opposed to the Marriage Protection Amendment.
She even was opposed to the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act.

She voted against Parental Notification when minor children seek an abortion.

In 1998, she opposed a constitutional amendment to permit school prayer in the classroom, and In 1999, she opposed allowing state and local governments to display the Ten Commandments on public property, including schools.

You decide whether the above are real or fake Catholics. Maybe the Catholic laity needs a Tea Party on this matter?

In many ways the Obamacare is a teaching lesson for all Americans. The challenges we face from the Culture of Death advocates and why in educating ourselves and others we vote them out of them out of office in 2010. And we can.

“There is a deliberate effort to push the Church out of health care. They don’t like who we are and what we stand for; it’s real. I always find it ironic that politicians say we do wonderful work, and they don’t understand that the reason we do wonderful work is of what we believe. If they are going to celebrate our contribution to the common good, then they have to protect our participation consistent with our values in advancing the common good.” John Carr, executive director of the Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development of USCCB.

“Faithful physicians and health care providers – from medical students to hospitals – face significant challenges to conscientious belief and practice, as practically all Catholic teachings on respect for life are under attack, John Brehany, executive director of the “Catholic Medical Association.”

“Catholic health care is in the middle of some of the toughest debates in American life – abortion, euthanasia, and health care itself, said John Carr. “The biggest challenge is keeping faith with the mission in challenging times.”… “It’s a really a tough time with dramatic change in health care financing, very significant ethical challenges, 40 million without health coverage and immigrants who have no status. Carr said. “And yet Catholic hospitals carry out the healing ministry of Jesus in our own time in lots of places…”

Multiple Threats:
“… ethical challenges are being thrown at Catholic health care from any directions: abortion rights advocates, groups such as Planned Parenthood, secularists, professional organizations and government entities at all levels.

Get Out of the Profession:
Americans United for Life (AUL) has concluded that there is an “Increasing threats to health care rights of conscience by groups and individuals who believe that health care providers who oppose abortion, contraception, and immoral uses of biotechnology should, ‘GET OUT OF THE PROFESSION.” They strategy is “clever and chilling” according to an AUL brief on the topic.

“If they can create legal precedent to compel violation of conscience for one procedure (e.g., dispensing contraceptives) or group of health care providers (e.g., pharmacists), they will have established the legal precedent necessary to compel doctors to participate in surgical abortion and to compel all health care providers to participate in other objectionable procedures and services.”

Exhibit A in “The Case of the Indifferent Ordinary” is the Notre-Dame Scandal, wherein our President was honored by America’s leading Catholic institution and about half our bishops wrote letters to ND’s president.
This was deemed “tough.”

The truth: Almost 50 years after the Church adopted a new governing style under Pope Paul VI (see our inaugural issue for details) and after 28 years of another pontiff’s flood of documents and position papers with no follow-up, our shepherds do not use their authority. The “tough” ones use suasion.
The other prelates use, well, nothing at all.

The Church’s response to the ND-Obama scandal will have little to no effect on the behavior of leading Catholic educators.

The Rahm Emmanuels of the world laugh at bishops who write letters. Unless and until penalties are meted out to Catholic politicians and educators for their behavior, most of the faithful will shrug the Notre Dame episode off and the press and Hollywood will continue their assaults on Christian life. Which further erode Catholic morale, in an endless diabolical spiral?
Time for some true bishops, not Wuerls.

HEALTHY SECULARISM?
Noted Pat Buchanan in a recent column: “The social, moral and cultural revolution of the 1960s… has captured the culture, and converted many of the young. Among Americans 18 to 29, a fourth professed to be atheist, agnostic, or of no religious faith. The figure is surely higher among the college young.”

Buchanan points to judicial fiat as playing the pivotal role in “the triumph of secularism.”

Adds Buchanan: “Since the Everson decision of 1947, justices have expunged Christianity and all its books and symbols from the public square and public schools. Voluntary prayer, the Ten Commandments, Bible reading, Christmas plays and carols, Nativity scenes, Easter vacation, before-game prayers, benedictions at graduations – all have been ordered terminated by unelected judges, against the will of the majority. Abortion on demand, too, was imposed by judicial fiat.”

He noted that the homosexual movement, tiny in its numbers but supported by key American courts, has thus far triumphed over huge majorities who voted against homosexual “marriage” in 16 states.”

Buchanan: “Secularism has become the established religion of the American state and judges are the high priests of the new order.”

Why is this America an exemplar of “healthy secularism,” unless that phrase, employed by the Holy Father on his 2008 trip to the U.S., simply means that we have not yet become as decadent as Europe?

Why? One of America’s low politicians, the pro-abortion and pro-homosexual Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico, took his road show to the Vatican on April 22. He could not have done it without the help of one of America’s bishops, Michael Sheehan.

Richardson got himself prominently displayed in L’Observatore Romano, Reason? The two of them worked hard in glove to spare the lives of some of America’s most destructive citizens – convicted murderers on death row…

“For years, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and its allies were crying as seemingly lone voices in the darkness for “progressive” form of judicial activism that would elevate the laws and court decisions of other nations above our U.S. Constitution. And now those calls are on the verge of spreading through the court system.

“By the grace of God (John 15:5), the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) is standing up to stop the ACLU from eroding the freedoms affirmed by the Constitution...”

The ACLU’s Role in the Foreign Law Movement:
For several years, the ACLU has been advocating for American courts to cite international law. The ACLU held a large conference in Atlanta a few years ago to whip up support for what it labels “the positive face of globalism.”

Normally, the ACLU plays fast and loose with the U.S. Constitution, urging judges to attach new “meanings” to it like the so-called “separation of church and state.” It is intent on eroding, undermining, and redefining the Constitution.

And in its call for international law, it was forthright about the low level of regard it holds for the Constitution stating: “It is clear that we can no longer count on the Constitution to protect fundamental freedoms in the United States.”

A traditional view of those who wrote the Constitution’s “fundamental freedoms” – which respect religious liberty, the sanctity of life, and marriage and family – doesn’t look anything like the ACLU’s version.

The ACLU’s “fundamental freedoms” are very radical, and that’s why it has to look to other countries to find support. That’s where it will find approval of its demands for same-sex “marriage”and adoption, for children to get abortions without the knowledge and consent of their parents, for euthanasia, for convicted child molesters to live secretly near children’s playgrounds and schools, as well as for restrictions on prayer, free speech, home schooling, and religious freedom in the public square...

The ACLU now has perhaps the greatest influence on an administration it’s ever had, and this has emboldened its call for foreign law. Harold Koh, newly appointed chief legal advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State, said:

Goodridge v. Dept. of Public Health – Citing the Court of Appeal for Ontario, Canada, 4 justices on the Mass. Supreme Judicial Court turned 400 years of American and colonial jurisprudence on its head by fabricating “same-sex” marriage….

Lawrence v. Texas – the High Court fabricated protections for homosexual sodomy, citing European Court of Human Rights & committee advising British Parliament.

Prologue:
“It is impossible to act rightly without truth. That is why the will to know the truth, to seek it humbly and with a readiness to learn it, is the basic requisite of all morality. Where profit or success leads to the neglect of truth, the world is fragmented into interest groups because profit always depends on the viewpoint of the one acting.” Pope Benedict XVI, meditation – July 27, 2009

The above is the title of an article on the blog – “Catholics-in-Alliance for the Common Good.” 7-24-09. This blog persuaded Catholics to vote for Obama for President. I shall make a commentary on it. Here is how the article begins:

“19 Pro-life Democrats on the Hill signed a letter addressed to Speaker Pelosi indicating that they would only support comprehensive healthcare legislation that “explicitly excludes” federal funding of abortions…

Guttmacher Institute statistics suggest that providing such federal funding of abortions may increase the number of abortions in America by as much as one-third – an outcome that hardly reflects well on a new “pro-life friendly” Democratic Party that would prefer abortion to rare and the need for it to be reduced.”

“MANY CATHOLIC DEMOCRATS IN THE HOUSE ARE NOTICEABLE ABSENT. CATHOLIC PROGRESSIVES COMMITTED TO COMMON GROUND AND PRAGMATIC PROGRESS ON LIFE ISSUES SHOULD BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF SUPPORT FOR THIS LETTER.”

Please reread the above three paragraphs. Note “noticeable absent,” Catholic progressives, and Common ground are terms which I will be using to inform and educate myself and others on what is going on within Catholic America. In fact, figuring out and explaining the Obama Healthcare will be missionary work and a lot of fun to do within the next 2 or 3 months.

Point One:

We have at least 13 Catholic label politicians from California in Congress. Not one of them is on the list of the 19 pro-life Democrats who wrote the above letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Catholic label politician.

Is it possible that we have fake Catholics who use the Catholic label to run for office? What is the responsibility of the California Catholic bishops to inform Catholics parishioners of this scandal?

I know the Baptists and Evangelical preachers would do it, if they had politicians using their label.

Point Two:

There is a silent war going on against Catholic hospitals, doctors and health care workers. In the Senate, we had 16 Catholic label politicians vote to take away the conscience clause from them. Again on this matter, the silence from Catholic leaders, bishops and laity is deafening.

Earlier this year, the Holy Father delivered a response to criticism that he is “out of touch” and “remote.”

To an impertinent questioner on his plane, Pope Benedict noted that he meets day in and day out with all manner of staff. We just had a plenary session “this morning,” he added, with the Congregation for Divine Worship. He offered other examples.
Unfortunately, the Vatican is too sensitive to media provocation.

For all intent and purposes, the Left and the press are one, and no amount of blather about “social communications” or “the need” to keep up with the Web makes the reality any different. On the contrary, the blather tends to confuse the faithful, incite the jackals in the media and in Hollywood, and paralyze the Church’s ability to respond meaningfully because even Vatican officials now think the blather is the key to persuading the world.

In truth, targets of the political Left in recent history are subject to relentless media abuse. Figures the left admires get media protection and heaping credit for being sensitive and bright. Representatives of Big Abortion like Obama get maximum cooperation and have icon status.

Because the criticism of Benedict being “remote” are media code, written and produced by the Catholic left – code for “we require a weaker pope next time”- Rome should ignore them and move on to the real battles.

The battles involve not just Catholic life. Untold millions of non-Catholics look anxiously to the Vatican for moral leadership – for example, in the abortion battle or the mushrooming obscenity threats. For these silent millions, the pope remains the standard of reference, never publicly applauded, never acknowledged by the good Protestant pastors of souls.

For decades, they, and we, have been getting mixed signals: good documents, indifferent bishops. Or worse than different. The scandal of the ex-archbishop of Milwaukee – who once ran the entire Bendictine order – and his memoirs make the point well.

Were the Holy Father to find men of character and spine to run our dioceses who backed him in the next media-manufactured crisis sure to come, the Vatican could then attack Hollywood and press as prime threats to family life in the West.

It would become a force in American social life (and perhaps the next election), harnessing the support of tens of millions of very worried Christians who vote…

History:

The Dominican Order has a long history of service to the Church, and living in its spirit has produced hundreds of saints including the well known saints Catherine of Siena, Thomas Aquinas, Rose of Avila, Martin de Porres, Albert the Great, and Pope Pius V.

The order is rich in custom and tradition while, at the same time, in tune with the needs of our day, as St. Dominic himself was in his day.

We Lay Dominicans enjoy the privileges of belonging to the Order and extend its effectiveness into the world in which we live and work.

Dominicans are called to follow Christ, to witness to redemption in the world, and to live in charity with one another.

Our Orange County Chapter-in-Formation has assembled once a month in a Chapter meeting.

The monthly meetings are usually held on the last Tuesday of each month from 7-9 P.M. at St. Joachim Parish, Costa Mesa.

Dominican Laity consists of married and single men and women who wish to share in the prayer, study, community and ministry of this religious order. Lay Dominicans take no vows and they do not wear the habit.

Reds’ Role Claimed in Peace March

Washington (UPI) House Republican Leader Gerald R. Ford said today the White House has a secret report showing that Communists organized the Oct. 21 peace march on the Pentagon. Ford told the House that President Johnson read the report to Republican leaders at the White House subsequent to the march and he assumed it also had been made available to key Democrats.

He urged Johnson to make public the facts. Ford said the had asked Atty. Gen. Ramsey Clark to make the report public but Clark, in a visit to his office, had offered arguments that this should not be done.

He did not say what Clark’s arguments were, but he said other administration figures had said they feared release of the report would unleash a wave of “McCarthyism”.

“I believe the American people should be given the facts so they can judge for themselves the depth of anti-Vietnam sentiment.”}

“Botkin noted that American media and movies still portray the Vietnamese as corrupt, weak, effete and treasonous rather than people who were fighting for their freedom. But he said “Ride the Thunder” reveals the untold inspirational story the media neglected – one of friendship, bravery patriotism and courage.”

“On Jan. 23, 1973, President Nixon proclaimed “Peace with Honor” in his televised speech to the world. “WE USED THAT AS A COVER TO DISENGAGE,” BOTKIN SAID. “HISTORY IS REPLETE WITH EXAMPLES OF COMMUNISTS ONLY ABIDING BY TREATIES THAT ARE TO THEIR ADVANTAGE AND SHRUGGING THEM OFF EVERY OTHER TIME. I used to thin that life was hill and valleys – you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountain top bath and forth. I don’t believe that anymore.
Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it’s a kind of two rails on a railroad track, and at times you have something good and something bad in life,,,

No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on. And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for…

This is the second national NAACP event this year, as the organization held a national convention in May. There, Levon Yuille, a pastor and leader of the National Black Pro-Life Congress sponsored a protest involving dozens of pro-life African-Americans along with a special guest, Pastor Walter Hoye. Hoye was recently released from prison in Oakland, where he served a jail sentence after refusing to abide by what he considered an unconstitutional law targeting his free speech rights to share the pro-life message at abortion centers in the city.

Britain is no longer a Christian nation, affirmed Anglican bishop, Paul Richardson, in an article published Jun. 27 in the Sunday Telegraph newspaper.

ONLY AROUND 1% OF ANGLICANS ATTEND SUNDAY SERVICE ON AVERAGE, according to Richardson. “At this rate it is hard how to see the church surviving for more than 30 years though few of its leaders are prepared to face that possibility,” he warned.

He also noted that out of every 1,000 live births in England and Wales in the period 2006-07 only 128 were baptized as Anglicans. This compares to 609 per thousand in 1900.

Just the day before, in the Times newspaper, Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks, chief rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, deplored the lack of a shared moral code in Britain... the loss of traditional values of morality.

We are very moral in some things, such as world poverty and global warming, but these are remote and global…. When it comes to matters closer to our own lives WE HAVE LOST OUR SENSE OF RIGHT AND WRONG REGARDING OUR PERSONAL BEHAVIOR.

“Instead, there are choices. The market facilitates those choices. The state handles the consequences, picking up the pieces when they go wrong.”

It’s no use just treating the symptoms with more laws and surveillance systems. “WITHOUT A SHARED MORAL CODE THERE CAN BE NO FREE SOCIETY,” Sacks argued.

A study carried out by Penguin books, albeit in conjunction with the promotion of a recent book on the topic, said that nearly two-thirds of teenagers do not believe in God.

According to the Jun. 22 report in the Telegraph paper the study of 1,000 teens showed that 59% thought religion has a negative influence on the world.

The survey also revealed that half of those questioned have never prayed and 16% have never been to church…About 60% were unaware of the story of the Good Samaritan & figures such as Abraham & Joseph were also foreign to many.

California is financially bankrupt and passing out I.O.U.’s. Texas did not take the stimulus package and is overall better off. The California legislature is intellectually and morally the most corrupt one in the country. You can compare it to Obama’s Cook County in Illinois. Texas does not have this kind of legislature.

Today, California is a replica of Obama’s U.S.A.! And because honest journalism in America is dead and tragically enamored with the Obama regime our state and country remains uninformed. Hopefully the Tea Parties will show up again this coming Labor Day Weekend.

In the past several years, the bills passed by the California legislature are fundamentally anti-family, anti-life and anti-freedom. That is not the case in Texas. They did not vote in politicians who are beholden to special interest groups. These politicians legislate for the Hollywood and the gay agendas and unions, particularly the teachers unions. Notice I did not say the professional teacher organizations. We do not have any in California. S.B. 160 – Rodda Act killed the profession in 1975 when it was signed into law by the despicable Governor Jerry Brown. It legalized the politics of unionism. {Professional teaching is dead. It was still alive when I was a member of NEA, CTA & WTA from 1963-68.}

Texas is a Right to Work State. That blunts special interests group like the aforementioned above. Texas voted for parental notification by over 60%. California defeated it by about 51%. Texans are smarter.

The state Democratic Party in Texas is not what it is in California. In California it is the party of abortion, the party of same-sex marriage, the party of embryonic stem-cell research, the party of assisted-suicide and euthanasia. And in Congress we are shamed with nincompoops like Nancy Pelosi, Loretta and Linda Sanchez, Ellen Tauscher; in fact all of the other Catholic-in-name-only Congressmen from California. FAKE CATHOLIC LABEL POLITICIANS PROMOTE SAME-SEX MARRIAGE IN AMERICA. THAT IS THE MANTRA THIS BLOG WILL REPEAT OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND I HOPE YOU WILL ALSO.

The leader of this CINOP CABAL besides the two CINOP Senators Kennedy and Kerry in Massachusetts is NANCY PELOSI the wonder woman from San Francisco. She is the one that intruded into Massachusetts politics and blocked a Proposition 8 type marriage amendment a couple of years ago to be on the November 2008 election ballot. This week, Massachusetts, the first state to legalize gay marriage sued the U.S. government Wednesday over a federal law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

We had great hope in our Governor Arnold, but he truly has an albatross around his neck with his wife CINOP Maria Schreiber. Arnold turned out to be not only pro-abortion but also for same-sex marriage. Also, the Governor’s billion dollar fiasco in financing embryonic stem-cell research is going nowhere and costing us millions of dollars of borrowed money each year. This is not happening in Texas. Enough said!

“Brennan uncovers an essay from the Sep. 1970 issue of California Medicine that unabashedly advocated the use of the following “semantic gymnastics” (their words, not mine or Brennan’s) to promote the broader acceptance of abortion: (1) “avoidance of scientific fact, which everyone really knows, that human life begins at conception” and (2) “separating the idea of abortion from the idea of killing.”
“Against such brazen duplicity, Brennan juxtaposes the words of John Paul II. In a passage from The Gospel of Life (Evangelium Vitae) quoted by Brennan the Pope declares:

‘…we need now more than ever to have the courage to look the truth in the eye and to call things by their proper names, without yielding to convenient compromise and or to the temptation of self-deception…. {Direct, undisguised language is urgently needed} especially in the case of abortion {where} there is widespread use of ambiguous terminology … which tends to hide abortion’s true nature and to attenuate its seriousness in public opinion…. {N}o word has the power to change the reality of things: procured abortion is the deliberate and direct killing , by whatever means it is carried out, of a human being in the initial phase or his or her existence extending from conception to birth.”…

{In January, 2003 National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League changed its name to NARAL Pro-Choice …. saying only that the old name does not apply.}

“Brennan cites a 1976 paper by Willard Cates and colleagues at the Center for Disease Control, presented before the Planned Parenthood Physicians of America, titled “Abortion as a Treatment for Unwanted Pregnancy.” Cates et al. referred to “unwanted pregnancy” as “The Number Two Sexually Transmitted Disease.”

“They told conference attendees that “abortion is 10 times more effective for treating unwanted pregnancy than is penicillin for treating gonorrhea.” The authors concluded that unwanted pregnancy is “a sexually-transmitted condition of epidemic proportion and, moreover, legal abortion is an effective, safe, and curative treatment for that condition.”

“Brennan illustrates how invaluable are John Paul’s clear, direct refutations. “Causing death,” the Pope insisted. “Can never be considered a form of medical treatment…” “Looking to America’s founding documents and its tradition of liberty, the Pope declares. “If you want equal justice for all, and true freedom and lasting peace, then America defend Life! All the great causes that are yours today will have meaning only to the extent that you guarantee the right to life and protect the human person.”

“Nearly 5,000 people turned out in Oklahoma City at the state Capitol building, that protest was one of 32 in Oklahoma alone.”

“In San Antonio, Texas, between 3,000 and 4,000 gathered in intense heat throughout the day at the Rio Cibolo Ranch. Joe Wurzelbacher, better known as “Joe the Plumber,” was one of the featured speakers along with Gov. Rick Perry, who became the first elected official to sign the CONTRACT WITH THE CONSTITUTION, a document that espouses ten principles including limiting the role of government, protecting the right to bear arms and amending the Constitution to define marriage as union between one man & one woman.”

“The truth of the matter is that our government has gone out of control,” Vermont attorney Steven Howard told an assembled crowd in Burlington. “We have let loose the leash and now it is running rampant.”

“In Louisville, Ky., where some 1500 turned out, Wendy Caswell, president of the local tea party organization, said. “We’re definitely upholding the Constitution, what our forefathers had laid out for us, so it was an honor for us to do it on Independence Day.”

“We’re just trying to teach people about the Constitution, the Bill of Rights. A lot of what’s going on in Congress wouldn’t stand up to the Constitution,” said Bernard Hargenrader at the Houma, La., tea party… 200 gathered at the downtown courthouse.”

“At the East Texas tea party in Lukin, organizer gave out the White House telephone number and urged attendees to call Obama and tell him, ‘We’re not happy, and we are working to make Texas free from his legislation’. Texas’ former Solicitor General Ted Cruz, told the crowd that America is ‘facing the single greatest threat to our liberty THAT WE’VE EVER SEEN. I believe President Obama was elected BECAUSE WE FAILED TO LEAD. But I also believe that his greatest legacy will be THAT HE INSPIRED A NEW GENERATION OF CONSERVATIVES TO RISE UP AND DEFEND OUR LIBERTY.”

“At the Phoenix rally, Daniel Medina, 36, said: “We’re talking a lot about the Constitution today. We wanted to exercise our free speech. We’re coming together as patriots, not as one political party or another. We’re being taxed and taxed and taxed.”

On this Independence Day, I am so very proud of all those who have chosen to serve our great nation and I honor their selflessness and sacrifice of their families, too.
If I may, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the last 24 hours and share my thoughts with you.

First, I want to thank your for your support and hard work on the VALUES we share. Those values led to the decision my family and I made. Yesterday, my family and I announced a decision that is in Alaska’s best interest and it always feel good to do what is right. We have accomplished more during this one term than most governors do in two – I am proud of the great team that helped to build these wonderful successes. ENERGY INDEPENDENCE AND NATIONAL SECURITY, FISCAL RESTRAINT, SMALLER GOVERNMENT AND LOCAL CONTROL have been my priorities and will remain my priorities.

For months now, I have consulted with friends and family, and with the Lieutenant Governor, about what is best for our wonderful state. I even made a few administrative changes over that course in time in preparation from yesterday. We have accomplished so much and there’s much more to do, but my family and I determined after prayerful consideration that sacrificing my title helps Alaska most. And once, I decided not to run for re-election, my decision was that much easier - I’ve never been one to waste time or resources. Those who know me know this is the right decision and obvious decision at that, including Senator John McCain. I thank him for his kind, insightful comments.

The response in the main stream media has been most predictable, ironic, and as always, detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the ‘POLITICS OF PERSONAL DESTRUCTION.’ How sad that Washington and the media will never understand, it’s about country. And though it’s honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make. But every American understands what it takes to make a decision because it is right for all, including your family.

I shared with you yesterday my heartfelt and candid reasons for the change. I’ve never thought I needed a title before one’s name to forge progress in America. I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our VALUES OF LESS GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION, GREATER ENERGY INDEPENDENCE, STRONGER NATIONAL SECURITY, AND MUCH NEEDED FISCAL RESTRAINT. I hope you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness!

If I were Sarah Palin, I would leave office as well. Alaska Democrats and some Republican power structure politicians hate her because she successful fought corruption in the Alaskan Democratic and Republican parties, defeated a former Republican United States senator (Murkowski) in the Republican governor’s primary, and defeated a former two term Democratic governor in the general election. Some women despise her because she is 45, the mother of 5, and still incredibly beautiful.

Her brother advises that she and her staff were spending about 80% of their time defending against FRIVOLOUS ETHICS COMPLAINTS filed against her. There are no legal or financial impacts for those who file these complaints. So Palin had to defend herself against 15 of them … found guilty of no ethic violations to date. However, investigations of these complaints have cost the taxpayer of Alaska over 2 million dollars, and Palin’s personal legal debts exceeding $500,000 in defending against these ridiculous complaints.

1.) On this day, July 4th, 1776, John Hancock, the Chairman of the Continental Congress, and the Secretary of the Congress both signed the Declaration of Independence of the United States, thereby making it legal. The only government document in world history that is a creedal statement of Bible-based ideals, it contains these phrases:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are
LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS…”

“Appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions...”
“With a firm reliance on the protection of the Divine Providence….”

2.) By this day in 1775, new Commander-in-Chief George Washington’s first General Order was common knowledge throughout the Continental Army:

“The General most earnestly requires and expects a due observance of those articles of war established for the government of the army, which forbids profane, cursing, swearing and drunkenness. And in like manner, he requires and expects of all officers and soldiers not engaged in actual duty, a punctual attendance of Divine services, to implore the blessings of Heaven upon the means used for our safety and defense.” Johnson, Washington, 69

3.) On this day, July 6th, 1775, to explain why several thousand militia from the different Colonies were camped outside Boston, which was occupied by the British, The Continental Congress issued a “Declaration of The Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms.” It concluded: Foster, Covenant, 33.

“With a humble confidence in the mercies of the Supreme and impartial God and ruler of the universe, we most devoutly implore His divine goodness to protect us happily through this great conflict, and to dispose our adversaries to reconciliation on reasonable terms, and thereby to relieve the empire from the calamities of civil war.

4.) Enshrined on the green in Philadelphia where it faces Independence Hall is the beloved symbol of America’s freedom, the “Liberty Bell.” On this day, July 8th, 1776 it pealed in celebration of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. Inscribed on its base are these words from Leviticus 25:10:
“Proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.”

5.)Founding Father John Jay’s life was one of devoted service to both God and country. In addition to his years as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, … co-author with Madison and HAMILTON of the “Federalist Papers,” and Governor of New York. He once avowed:

“In forming and settling my belief relative to the doctrines of Christianity, I adopted no articles from creeds but such only as, on careful examination, I found to be confirmed by the Bible… At a party in Paris, once, the question fell on religious matters. In the course of it, one of them asked me if I believed in Christ. I answered that I did, and I thanked God I did.” Northrup, Witnesses, 251

6.) One of the Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall’s favorite poems was written by Josiah Gilbert Holland: Patriotic Anthology, 39.

1.) On this day, June 6th 1799, one of America’s great statesmen went to his heavenly reward. A little-known part of Patrick Henry’s legacy to the American people are these words penned on the back of his Stamp Act Resolves as the British pushed further toward war:

“Whether this will prove a blessing or a curse will depend upon the use our people make of the blessings which a gracious God hath bestowed on us. If they are wise, they will be great and happy. If they are of a contrary character, they will be miserable. Righteousness alone can exalt them as a nation. Reader! Whoever thou art, remember this; and in thy sphere practice virtue thyself, and encourage it in others.” Henry, Life, 632

2.) On this afternoon, June 17th, 1775, 2,200 British Redcoats advanced up Breed’s Hill toward the redoubt. Why didn’t they fire? Suddenly the top of the hill erupted in flame. The British fell like scythed wheat – and retreated in confusion down the hill. Where, under General Howe, they reformed and went up again. And again – until the defenders’ powder ran out…

Patriot Corporal Amos Farnsworth wrote in his diary: “Oh, the goodness of God in preserving my life, although they fell on my right and on my left! O may this act of deliverance of thine, O God, lead me never to distrust thee; but may I never trust in thee and put confidence in no arm of flesh!” Commager, Spirit, 122

3.) General Washington made no secret of his Christian faith. Or of his desire that others in his command should have the same resource: Toward the end of the terrible ordeal of Valley Forge he issued this order to the army:

“While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. In the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to laud the more distinguished Character of Christian.” Federer, America’s, 643

4.) On this day, March 28, 1859, Katherine Lee Bates was born. Her hymn, “America the Beautiful,” remains one of Americans’ most beloved prayers for their country: Felleman, Poems, 422
“O beautiful for Patriots’ dream – That sees beyond the years –
Thine alabaster cities gleam – Undimmed by human tears!
America! America! - God shed His grace on thee.
And crown Thy good with brotherhood – From sea to shining sea.”

5.) On this day, April 14th, 1865, Abraham Lincoln went to the theatre with his wife. Later she would recall his last words to her:

“He said he wanted to visit the Holy Land and see those places hallowed by the footprints of the Savior. He was saying there was no city he so much desired to see as Jerusalem. And with the words half spoken on his tongue, the bullet of the assassin entered the brain, and the soul of the great and good President was carried by the angels to the New Jerusalem above.” Hill, Lincoln, 432-22

6.) On this day, May 8th, 1884, Harry Truman was born. Referring to our Founding Fathers’ understanding of human rights, the 33rd President once said:
