There are at least three important lessons for their pastoral leadership to absorb. First, Catholic voters are paying less and less attention to the urgings of some of the Conference’s most theologically rigid and politically partisan bishops. Catholics this year returned to their traditional allegiance to the Democratic Party by a margin 53-45%. And Hispanic voters, most of whom are Catholics, supported the Democratic ticket by an astonishing margin of 66-31%.
This was in spite of the efforts of a vocal handful of bishops, including Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver and Bishop Joseph Martino of Scranton, to try to persuade Catholics that a vote for the Democratic ticket was tantamount to a vote for abortion and, therefore, gravely sinful….
By an overwhelming margin of some 60%, voters this year identified the economy as their number one concern. The issues which right-wing pressure groups tried to use on fellow Catholics with voter guides, - abortion, gay marriage, homosexuality, embryonic stem-cell research – gained little or no traction this time around.
The vocal minority of bishops have to ask themselves whether their one-issue approach is actually counterproductive… This year, in any case, their narrow approach to life issues has stirred other pro-life Catholics to fight back and to reject the focus on the abortion issue to the practical exclusion of all others.
Second, there is also a question to be put to the all-too-silent majority of bishops who have failed to remind Catholic voters that the Bishops’ Conference supports a “consistent ethic of life” approach to moral issues; that it has gone record as neither endorsing nor opposing candidates for public office; and that it insists that the Catholic Church is not a one-issue Church, notwithstanding the moral urgency of the abortion issue...
The media and many in the general public do not usually make a distinction between the personal views of the few outspoken bishops and official teachings and policies of the entire Bishops’ Conference.
In the future, Conference leaders must make it unmistakably clear that, while individual bishop are free to issue statements, and take stands within and for their own dioceses, and indeed that their views are contrary to the stated teachings and policies of the Conference itself.
Third, beyond the concern for political and moral credibility and effectiveness, there are other, equally significant statistics to drawn from the recent presidential election. The Democratic ticket won the support of 66% of voters between the ages of 18 and 29, and 57 % between the ages of 30 to 44. …
Can our leadership not make a more concerted effort to understand the thinking of under -45 Catholics? … The sexual-abuse scandal in the priesthood has had a devastating effect on the credibility of our bishops. They must take care not to worsen the problem.

In the Westminster Herald, California dated Nov. 13, 2008, Phyllis Schlafly has a poignant article on “Teaching ‘Social Justice” in Schools.”
But this is a different kind of social justice that regular American folks think of. This social justice is the creation of Bill Ayers the radical of the 1960’s who is now a professor of education at the University of Illinois. And why is he an insult to the profession I was in for 23 years? Ayers is a C.A.T. (An unrepentant Communist, Anarchist and Terrorist.)
During the Cold War with Communist Russia, we had these types within the American academia figuring how to undermine America with multiculturalism, etc., so that international communism can win.
Well, Ayers’ social justice teaching is defined in Education Week as “teaching kids to question whoever happens to hold the reigns of power at a particular moment. It’s about seeing yourself not just as a consumer (of information) but as an actor-critic” in the world around you…

So if you want to know what President-elect Obama thinks of social justice, freedom and our free enterprise system reread the above. Obama was influenced by the people around him. When you think of Obama, just think of him as the product of Chicago politics and corruption.

Chapter 2 – Killing in the Name of Jesus
There are serious differences between the culture of death and the culture of life mentality in America. This week’s confirmation debate in the Senate on Judge Sam Alito for the Supreme Court may enlighten us, particularly on the pro-abortion Pseudo-Catholic Senators. You will hear a lot of Spin. Bill Press is a master at Spin. He wrote a book on it, titled, Spin This. Here are a couple of quotes:
“There is no good definition of spin. It’s easier to say what it is not than what it is. It’s not the truth. Neither is it a lie. Spin lies somewhere between: almost telling the truth. But not quite; bending the truth to make things looks as good – or as bad – as possible; painting things in the best possible – or worst possible – light.… Spin has its roots in what was first described as ‘Newspeak’ by George Orwell in his novel 1984. (Orwell may have gotten the date wrong, but he was right about everything else.) In the totalitarian state he described, the ruling party controlled thought by controlling the language. The key was ‘doublethink,’ as expressed in ‘doublespeak’ – by which one says the exact opposite of what one means, yet ends up believing it to be true: ‘War is Peace,’ ‘Freedom is Slavery,’ and ‘Ignorance is Strength.’”
Now this is a technique used by the Catholics in Name only Politicians and their supporters. There was a time when you were born a Catholic and then always a Catholic. Now we have ex-Catholics and converts to another Christian religion. But we also have the CINOP. He is against the death penalty and for almost all Catholic Social Teachings in the public arena and in this way rationalizes his pro-abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriage stands. He is truly an indoctrinated secular humanist type originating in the 1960’s and from a failed Catholic Higher Education System. To get himself elected, the CINOP uses false advertising as a Catholic.
Now what Pro-Life is facing in America is that the ruling party is the Culture of Death Mentality. It controls the language and the issues to be focused on. It is the media, Hollywood, Academia etc. They also have a double-standard. The two exceptions are: Talk Radio and Fox News. Modernism is suicidal like in Europe.
Bill Press believes that the war in Iraq is not a just war. Only the American Southern Baptist Convention – plus a scattering of conservative Catholics and Orthodox Jews – supported the war. He errs in denigrating the religious beliefs of Christian Coalition Leadership with ridicule. This is not Christian talk but repeating secularist propaganda. He continues with a consistent animosity to other Christians in the book. They did not vote for Kerry but so did a majority of Catholics. He is a cry-baby and a religious bigot.
Christians and particularly, Catholics need some kind of antidote to the Culture of Death Mentality. I believe membership in the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights and the Cardinal Mindszenty Society would be a good beginning. It would be like getting the flu shot. I have been a member for more than 25 years.

Our American Vietnamese citizens and immigrants know all about reeducation camps. They and their relatives have experienced it in Communist Vietnam. The same can be said for our Americans of Cuban and Korean descent.
This is what Bill Press’s book is all about. It is a reeducation and brainwashing book for practicing and non-practicing Catholics, particularly if one does not have a deep knowledge of our Catholic beliefs and history of our country. As a pseudo-Catholic, Bill’s book is for all readers to change their beliefs and accept abortion on demand, same-sex marriage, euthanasia and assisted suicide, embryonic & stem cell research, and finally, the over-all secular agenda as part and parcel of our Constitution.
Before moving on to the next chapter, I do not believe that the Founding Fathers supported an absolute wall of separation between Church and State. Their words speak for themselves.

Today is the feast of Bishop St. Nicholas. He participated at the Council of Nicaea and together with that first great assembly of bishops formulated the profession of faith in the true divinity of Jesus Christ. Pope Benedict XVI.
So the shepherds of Christ’s flock must never indulge in self-love if they do they will be tending the sheep not as Christ’s but as their own. And of all vices this is the one that the shepherds must guard against most earnestly: seeking their own purposes instead of Christ’s, furthering their own desires by means of those persons for whom Christ shed his blood. There is a train wreck ahead. Everything must be done to avoid this train wreck which is the federal legalization of same-sex marriage. The judicial activists have done it in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Within a few years, it may be legalized by the Supreme Court with a couple of new Supreme Court Justices.

Pope Benedict XVI stated, “In a special way, I reaffirm the necessity and urgency of the evangelical formation and pastoral accompaniment of a new generation of Catholics involved in politics, that they may be coherent with their professed faith.” Our purpose is a reality check-up.
Presently, this blog is a voice crying in the wilderness. We are a blog with about 550 informational letters since May, 2007. Our special for the last week and for the next two weeks is a study of Catholic–label politician and writer Bill Press. I apologize for the number of other e-mails before Christmas. Uppermost in our minds is the prevention of any federal or state same-sex marriage laws. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A ST. THOMAS MORE STUDY GROUP will begin in January, monthly on Tuesday or Thursday evening, 7-9 P.M. at a library in Anaheim, California. We will focus on the same-sex marriage law passed by Catholic-label politicians in Canada in 2005 and how to prevent this mindset from occurring in the United States. Cinops are invited. In closing, we need to be aware in our deliberations; avoid any kind of bias in favor of a political party. For example, would the bishops have remained silent during the last couple of decades if the leadership of the Republican Party promoted abortion, same-sex marriage, embryonic stem cell research, etc? Also, as staunch Americans, we can study the role of bishops in the voting patterns of Catholics in Europe during the 1930’s. Looking for Pope John Paul II Shepherds!

Our special for the last week and for the next two weeks is a study of Catholic–label politician and writer Bill Press. I apologize for the number of other e-mails before Christmas. There are: Member of the Canadian Parliament Tom Wappel,’s “Address to Catholic Clergy Luncheon,” Robert J. Kendra’s article, “Episcopal Abortion Politics,” and “The Shenanigans of Doug Kmiec,” and comments by Cardinal Stafford and McBrien.
Uppermost in our minds is the prevention of any federal or state same-sex marriage laws. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A ST. THOMAS MORE STUDY GROUP will begin in January, monthly on Tuesday or Thursday evening, 7-9 P.M. at a library in Anaheim, California. We will focus on the same-sex marriage law passed by Catholic-label politicians in Canada in 2005 and how to prevent this mindset from occurring in the United States. Cinops are invited. We can also review James Monty’s book, The King’s Good Servant but God’s First, “The Life & Writings of St. Thomas More.” Ignatius Press, San Francisco, /97
In closing, we need to be aware in our deliberations; avoid any kind of bias in favor of a political party. For example, would the bishops have remained silent during the last couple of decades if the leadership of the Republican Party promoted abortion, same-sex marriage, embryonic stem cell research, etc? Also, as staunch Americans, we can study the role of bishops in the voting patterns of Catholics in Europe during the 1930’s. Looking for Pope John Paul II Shepherds!

The purpose is to understand the CINOP (Catholic in name only politician), like Bill Press, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newson, Senators Kennedy, Leahy, Durbin, Dodd, Biden, Susan Collins, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and others. While anyone can call himself a Catholic in the public arena, is he or she a Catholic within the Catholic Church?
You decide on the following three excerpts relating to the Cinops behavior.
1) “On May 17, 2003, Francis Cardinal Arinze, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, delivered the address at the graduation ceremonies. (Georgetown) He stated:
‘In many parts of the world, the family is under siege. It is opposed by an anti-life mentality as is seen in contraception, abortion, infanticide and euthanasia. It is scorned and canalized by pornography, desecrated by fornication and adultery, mocked by homosexuality, sabotaged by irregular unions and cut in two by divorce.’
Part of the audience was quite upset with the reference to homosexuality, Students walked out and a theology professor stomped off the stage. Later, an official letter of protest was signed by nearly seventy faculty members.” 28

2) “House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco, a Catholic, was one of 48 representatives who wrote a letter to the U.S. Bishops warning them that the ‘threat of withholding a sacrament will revive latent anti-Catholic prejudice.’ (A religion that can only avoid prejudice by refusing to take itself seriously is not long for this world.) San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom had already made headlines by issuing same-sex marriage licenses at City Hall. Newsom calls himself a Catholic, but, according to the Chronicle, said he ‘fundamentally disagrees with Catholic Church teachings on stem cell research, abortion rights, same-sex marriage and birth control.’ He had received Communion just the other day, he added, although he declined to say where. ‘I have lots of priests who are family friends.’ But his conscience was ‘clear.’” 21- Jan.06

3) “Thus, the proponents of the fundamental option theory posit three, rather than two, major categories of sin (in terms of their seriousness): venial sins, grave sins, and mortal sins. These are trying and confusing times for Christians. We are living with managed news and enduring the barnyard of the culture of death. It is hard to think of today’s media during World War II and the Korean conflict. We would have lost both wars. We did in Viet Nam and that is what they are trying to do in Iraq. As a ten year old, I recall Pearl Harbor, early afternoon. The elders were playing cards.
There is something about the culture of death as enunciated by Pope John Paul II that is suicidal not only for the person but for the nation. Think of a mindset that promotes abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, assisted suicide and wants to rewrite the definition of marriage via judicial activist judges. Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito is not a judicial activist. He will be attacked and smeared. Watch carefully the Cinops, as the Senate hearings begin. These are the dangerous Catholics in name only politicians.
In support of this absolute wall of separation of Church and State, Bill Press has four sections titled, “Our Founding Fathers Did Not Call Themselves Christians. We are not a Christian nation. The Founders clearly intended to build a wall of separation to protect Church from State – and to protect State from Church. American Law is not based on the Ten Commandments.” All of the above are half-truths with some pabulum and hogwash. Bill does have some common sense in the following which undercut his beliefs.
“Our system of laws is based, above all else, on the natural law: the universal standards of behavior our Founding Fathers recognized as necessary and obvious to all men and women in order to live together peacefully in community.” 64
The following are excerpts from Daniel L. Dreisbach book, Real Threat and Mere Shadow, Religious Liberty and the First Amendment, Crossway Books, 1987, p.47-52
The historical record indicates that foremost in the draftsmen’s minds was the construction of an amendment designed to prohibit restraints on the free exercise of religion and to proscribe the establishment of a national church….Writing for the Court in Everson v. Board of Education (1947) Justice Hugo Black, invoking a Jeffersonian metaphor, asserted that the First Amendment erected “a wall of separation between church and State which “must be kept high and impregnable”…Roger Williams articulation of the “wall of separation” is found in a tract entitled, ‘Mr. Cotton’s Letter…’
Williams’s evangelical view held that a “wall of separation” was necessary to safeguard religious truth from the rough and corrupting hand of the civil government.”…
Critics of the Everson opinion have contended that the history endorsed by the Everson Court is not only historical flawed, but, at times utterly unfounded. …In the words of Michel J. Malbin, the Supreme Court Justices “have been acting almost as if their recognition of their predecessors’ historical errors have liberated them from the need to consider what purposes the members of the First Congress may have meant the religious clauses to serve.” … As historian Rousas John Rushdoony has argued, the concept of the secular state did not exist at the beginning of the War of Independence, nor was it recognized at the Constitutional Convention or in 1791 when the Bill of Rights was ratified by the states. Therefore, to interpret the Constitution as the “charter for a secular state is to misread history and to misread it radically…”
