No group has done more to promote the public funding of abortions than the Catholic bishops of America. That might well surprise them, flushed as they are with their success in making a deal in the House in which they supported passage of the Pelosi bill in exchange for an amendment barring public funding of abortions. But when you are dealing with people whose strategic goals are diametrically opposed to yours, you must be careful that what you get is not a temporary strategic retreat that can be reversed at any time, while what you have given is a huge and lasting strategic advantage...
Olympia Snowe helped to vote the Baucus bill out of committee because it ruled out the public option, which she opposed. Within days, Harry Reid had put the public option back in the bill that was now before the full Senate...
The bishops had given a far greater boost to ObamaCare than had Snowe: they actually endorsed the bill, and the slim margin of its victory in the House might not have been there without them. But when questioned by John Boehner, Henry Waxman finally admitted that there was no guarantee that the amendment would still be there as the bill progressed toward final passage. In other words, he and Pelosi had simply pocketed their priceless gain, and if they could betray the bishops, they would...
The AMA supported the bill in exchange for concessions that would reduce planned cuts in pay for doctors, insurance companies at one stage supported it because they thought they’d get more customers as more people were forced to buy insurance, drug companies supported it in exchange for concessions on drug price reductions…
What none of them seemed able to grasp was that the strategic goal toward which Reid and Pelosi were relentlessly advancing was something that would inevitably remove all of the protections they thought they had negotiated for themselves. The subsidized public option that Pelosi and Reid want would inevitably drive private insurers out of business, leaving the government the sole provider of health care INCLUDING ABORTIONS. When that happens government will also control drug prices, as well as conditions of work and pay for doctors.
But this is the kind of one-sided bargain that all these groups have been making with ObamaCare… Chamberlain’s wishful thinking would not allow him to see the power-mad glint in Hitler’s eye, and the same unwillingness to see the glint is at work in the health care debate. Appeasing a hungry monster never works: it grabs what it is offered, and immediately wants more, and more.
The bishops are unlikely to learn anything from the betrayal that Waxman openly admitted to… they will have the deflected attention from the real issues that waverers should have been unable to stomach: the massive addition to an already disastrous budget deficit, huge cost increases for health care & a public option that will degrade its quality…
The bishops, the insurers, the doctors, and the drug companies all need to grasp the rather simple fact that their own strategic goals are fundamentally in conflict with those of Pelosi and Reid, and the public option is at the center of that conflict. For all of them, making deals that allow the public option bandwagon to gather speed is sheer folly. The only way in which they can genuinely protect their interests is by stopping it, now.

While the Hawaiian Candidate (Mindszenty Report, Jan. 2009) was difficult to fathom before the election, since he has become president, Obama has become a more visible man who cannot disguise his statist beliefs and who demonstrates his obvious lack of experience...
Americans are slowly waking up to how Obama’s efficient socialism will affect their lives. Writing in The Wanderer, James Fitzpatrick faulted the president for his willingness to pay the price of hobbled American economy and weakened American middle class, if that what it takes to establish in the U.S. the central elements of a European-style welfare state. Europeans love Obama because his ideas resonate with their trade unionists, elite socialists, technocrats, and populists whose alliance to Marxist principles varies by only slight shades in the crimson palette of European politics.
President Obama’s main method is to make the government the guarantor of middle class security, says the WSJ. His wish list for American entitlements comes from the New Deal toy bag. He wants to make college education a new entitlement. He wants universal health care no matter what the cost. He wants a cap and trade tax that would punish the main sources of U.S. energy and hand Washington a vast new source of revenue. And like Roosevelt, Obama expects the wealthy to pay for his impossible dream…
The Wanderer columnist James Fitzpatrick reminds his fellow Catholics we should not lose sight of where the wealth, the tax base, needed to finance our social programs come from in the first place. He cautions liberal clerics and parishioners that the socialists will eventually run out of rich people’s money to tax and redistribute their wealth…
Some Catholics cite the Church’s social encyclicals, such as Pope Leo XIII’s Rerum Novarum (1891) and John XXIII’s (1963) Pacem in Terris to support a statist agenda. IT IS FALSE TO SAY THAT ANY OF THE POPES, G.K. CHESTERTON OR HILAIRE BELLOC ADVOCATED SOCIALISM FOR THE GOVERNMENT OR THE CHURCH.
To the contrary, popes and Catholic apologists have consistently condemned socialism as one of the great heresies of moral philosophy because of its deleterious economic and moral effects on both the Church and the poor. Mindszenty Report: June 2009: --Many college textbooks describe American history as a conflict between individual freedom and government power. In the U.S. this theory has transcended all its wars and economic crises since the Revolutionary War.
The economic crash of 2008-09 has been one of the most potentially devastating events ever to happen to Americans as a perfect storm of high employment, a steep decline in real estate values & housing foreclosures saturated the airways & the newspapers with apocalyptic cries of the end of existing world.
A country’s basic freedoms are vulnerable during such times of distress. The best aid that unscrupulous politicians have during such times is ignorance and indifference. A recent edition of Investors Daily Journal wondered why more people were not worried about President Barack Osama’s escalating socialistic solutions for the country’s financial crisis…. The conclusion that most people had not idea of what was happening because of educational and media indoctrination which had effectively screened them from the truth.
Socialism in America has not just happened. It has evolved over a long period of time. It essential fallacy is that it cannot deliver on its promises because they run counter to the grain of human nature, which thrives on the personal incentive to better the condition while preserving individual liberty. No matter how noble socialism’s EGALITARIAN rhetoric, it can only deliver on its promises by using its substantial power to coerce the people to reduce their standard of living to the lowest denominator...
American Socialist Norman Thomas once said, The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day, America will be a socialist nation without knowing how it happened. … creeping socialism has come true under a veneer of a liberal addiction to expecting eternal progress.
Socialistic creeping evolved into the baby steps of the Progressive Movement at the dawning of the 20th century. It began in the big cities as several progressive mayors enacted gas and water socialism where the cities owned the local utilities as a matter of public policy.
…many American progressives got their inspiration from studying at German universities where they came to appreciate the Hegelian theory of a strong state and Prussian militarism as the most efficient way of organizing modern societies.
Progressivism’s final product was more homespun. Early in American history political factions in America revolved around the political philosophies of Thomas Jefferson, who believed in small independent units of economic activity and Alexander Hamilton who saw the country’s future in a strong centralized government that fostered nationalism, manufacturing and export. Herbert Croly, the founder of the New Republic wedded the means of Hamilton’s Big Government with Jeffersonian welfare ends into a dynamic hybrid that has driven the American political engine for 100 years….
Due to the progressives, the American people have been conditioned to petition government in times of crisis. This idea ran counter to the American individualistic spirit until the Great Depression of the 1930’s. President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s massive intervention caused liberal historians to credit erroneously his New Deal with rescuing America’s free enterprise system from itself and its failed policy. This fallacy is a mirror of the true picture. FDR did more than any prior president to derail America from its free enterprise system. According to James Powell’s 2003 book, “FDR’s Folly: How Roosevelt and his New Deal Prolonged the Great Depression,” 13 years of Roosevelt conditioned the American people to call on Washington to solve all its economic and social needs…

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore hid protection and favor – and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.
Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be – That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks – for this kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to our becoming a Nation – for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war – for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed – for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the nation One now lately instituted – for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge, and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

What is the sad evidence for the above mindset? Let’s take a look at a book by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend. She is the eldest daughter of Robert Kennedy.
1.She claims that the Church betrayed her generation and went into decline by failing to change its teachings about contraception, abortion and sodomy.
2.)She’s unflinchingly self-righteous in her support of abortion. She’s perfectly comfortable with the violent deaths of 50 million American babies surgically ripped from the womb since 1973.
3.)Townsend has long been defining SIN for herself. As a young woman she made up her mind that sexual intercourse didn’t have “to wait till marriage,” provided she found the man she wanted to marry. She decided that what the Church condemns as FORNICATION was something good and might determine “if we were compatible. Luckily for me we were.” (The above from a Book in Review, p. 40, New Oxford Review, November 2009 – “Failing America’s Faithful”: How Today’s Churches are Mixing God with Politics and Losing Their Way. {Also, Ignoratio Elenchi’s article p. 16 for the info below.}
I will stop at this point and continue in another letter. The mindset of this Catholic dissident really bothers me. It’s despicable that the Kennedy clan should be allowed to use the Catholic label to run for office. Shame them - Shun them- and vote CINOPS out of office in 2010. It will depend on Catholic writers to get the message to readers. Study the following Senator Ed Kennedy record:
Ted Kennedy has consistently and publicly flouted Catholic teaching on life:
a)Not only did he consistently support a woman’s “right” to abortion, he voted NO to prohibiting minors to cross state lines for abortion.
b)He voted NO to notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions.
c)He voted NO to criminal penalties for harming an unborn child during the commission of other crimes. He voted NO to banning human cloning.
d)He voted NO to banning partial-birth abortions.
e)He voted NO to maintaining the ban on military-base abortions…
f)He voted YES to ensuring access and funding for contraception.
g)He voted YES to expanding research to more embryonic stem-cell lines.
h)He voted YES to spending $100 million to reduce teen pregnancy by providing them with free contraceptives.
i)Kennedy received a perfect 100% pro-choice rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America and a 0 % rating from National Right to Life.
j)It is also no secret that he was a supporter of SAME-SEX MARRIAGE IN 1996, & NO TO A CONSTITUTIONAL BAN OF S-S-MARRIAGE IN 2002.

Ted Kennedy has consistently and publicly flouted Catholic teaching on life:
a)Not only did he consistently support a woman’s “right” to abortion, he voted NO to prohibiting minors to cross state lines for abortion.
b)He voted NO to notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions.
c)He voted NO to criminal penalties for harming an unborn child during the commission of other crimes. He voted NO to banning human cloning.
d)He voted NO to banning partial-birth abortions.
e)He voted NO to maintaining the ban on military-base abortions…
f)He voted YES to ensuring access and funding for contraception.
g)He voted YES to expanding research to more embryonic stem-cell lines.
h)He voted YES to spending $100 million to reduce teen pregnancy by providing them with free contraceptives.
i)Kennedy received a perfect 100% pro-choice rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America and a 0 % rating from National Right to Life.
j)It is also no secret that he was a supporter of SAME-SEX MARRIAGE IN 1996, & NO TO A CONSTITUTIONAL BAN OF S-S-MARRIAGE IN 2002.

When that deception involves the ultimate inclusion of abortion coverage and no conscience clause protection for doctors and health care workers by Catholic label politicians like Nancy Pelosi; then we have a truly diabolical, clever, evil CINOP mindset.
Let’s study and figure out a statement by Arizona Congressman John Shadeg regarding the vote on the Stupak Amendment to the Pelosi Health Care Bill.
Washington, Nov. 8th, - Last night I was the only Republican member to vote “present” on the Stupak Amendment. I did so because I am passionately pro-life, but I am also passionately pro-freedom in the end, THE STUPAK AMENDMENT GAVE POLITICAL COVER TO DEMOCRATS WHO VOTED FOR NANCY PELOSI FOR SPEAKER.
She is anti-freedom and rabidly pro-abortion. She is no friend of Life and outsmarted opponents of socialized medicine. Before the vote she promised pro-abortion Democrats she would strip the Stupak language. Obama will help her. Let me explain:
Republicans who, at the request of Right to Life, in good faith, voted “yes” on Stupak last night defined a “yes” vote as the pro-life vote. But it wasn’t. A “yes” vote increased the votes for the bill and enabled Pelosi to pass it. That means more abortions.
Instead Republicans could have been principled and neither voted for the Stupak amendment nor against it. We did not have to help Nancy Pelosi. Republicans could have said “present” means “present”. It doesn’t mean “yes” and it doesn’t mean “no.” Members of Congress have three choices when they go to vote. A VOTE OF PRESENT IS A PROTEST VOTE. DOING SO WOULD HAVE DENIED THE PURPORTED PRO-LIFE DEMOCRATS COVER.
Given the extremely narrow margin of victory for the bill, it’s highly likely that without the Stupak language, it would have been defeated. It passed by five votes & there are far more than five Democrats who almost certainly wouldn’t have voted for it with government funded abortions in it.
Harry Mitchell wouldn’t or he would be in much deeper trouble next fall than he is now. Neither is it likely that Driehaus or Hill or Wilson or Mollohan or Ellsworth or Donnelly or perhaps numerous others would have. The bill would have been dead, and along with it, the threat of publicly funded abortions! We could have defeated NANCY PELOSI.
THE TRUTH IS YOU CAN’T BE TRULY PRO-LIFE AND PRO-PELOSI. Even if I am wrong and the bill hadn’t failed, it is absolutely clear the vote on passage would have been closer. It passed by only five votes. One of these votes was Republican: Cao. He stated publicly that he voted “yes” only because Stupak passed. Without his vote the margin would have been only three votes.
NOW, THE DEMOCRATS WHO VOTED FOR STUPAK WILL SAY THE “RIGHT TO LIFE” VOTE WAS ON STUPAK AND THEY VOTED PRO-LIFE. REPUBLICANS SET THE STANDARD. INSTEAD OF MAKING ‘PRESENT’ THE PRO-LIFE VOTE, WE MADE ‘YES’ THE PRO-LIFE VOTE…
