St. Thomas Aquinas (1224/5-1274)
Memorial – Saturday, January 28, 2012
St. Thomas Aquinas was a 13th century Dominican Friar, philosopher and theologian. Named a Doctor of the Church and given the title “Angelic Doctor,” he is the patron of Catholic universities, colleges and schools. Renowned for his proofs for the existence of God, Aquinas believed that both faith and reason discover truth; a conflict between them is impossible since they both originate in God. He was instrumental, therefore, in the assimilation of the works of Aristotle into the intellectual life of Western Christendom.
Saint Thomas was born in 1224 or 1225 to noble parents, being the youngest son of Landulf (descendant of the counts of Aquino) and Theodora, a noble woman of Naples. At the age of five, he was placed in the Monastery of Monte Cassino to be educated for a career in the Church.
At about the age of nineteen, he joined the Dominican Order, the Order of Friars Preachers. At about the age of twenty, he was placed under the instruction of St. Albert the Great, first in Paris and later in Cologne. Because of his large stature and quiet nature, Thomas’ fellows called him a dumb ox, but St. Albert declared that Thomas’ bellows would resound throughout the world. In Cologne, probably at the age of twenty-five, Thomas was ordained to the priesthood.
Quotes and Prayers by St. Thomas Aquinas…
“Beware of the man of one book.” “It is requisite for the relaxation of the mind that we make use, from time to time, of playful deeds and jokes.”
“The study of philosophy is not that we may know what men have thought, but what the truth of things is.”
“The soul is like an uninhabited world that comes to life only when God lays His head against us.”“To one who has faith no explanations is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.”
“We do not pray to change divine decree, but only to obtain what God has decided will obtained by prayer.”
“Give us, O Lord, a steadfast heart, which no unworthy affection may drag downwards; Give us an unconquered heart, which no tribulation can wear out; Give us an upright heart, which no unworthy purpose may tempt aside.”
“Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you. Amen”
“Obedience unites us so closely to God that it in a way transforms us into Him, so that we have no other will but His. If obedience is lacking, even prayer cannot be pleasing to God.”
“The Eucharist is the Sacrament of Love. It signifies Love. It produces love. The Eucharist is the consummation of the whole spiritual life.” – http://www.aquinasonline.com/thombiog.html

Freedom of Religion and Prayer
Freedom of Religion and Prayer
In support of the truth – www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com – Friday, January 27, 2012
Preface: As we proceed in reversing this HHS mandate forced on Catholic and other Christian institutions by the Obama regime; let’s start with a historical perspective. The following are some thoughts from one of the books by one of the several Talk Shows hosts.
“The Founding Fathers guaranteed us “freedom of religion” not “freedom from religion.” America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. Go back to the drafting of the Constitution. It was the summer of 1787, and the representatives who broke free from the tyranny of the British Empire were gathered in Philadelphia to hammer out this great document. After weeks of almost no progress, many were ready to walk away from the convention.
“Benjamin Franklin, who was eighty-one years old, stood and challenged the leaders as follows,:
“I have lived, sir, a long time and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice [which, I should point out, is a direct reference to the words of Jesus in Matthew 10] is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, sit, in the Sacred Writings that “except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this … I therefore beg leave to move that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this assembly every morning.”
“If you still have any doubt about America’s Judeo-Christian heritage, listen to our third president, Thomas Jefferson. He said, “God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their own firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are a gift of God? … Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.” But the radical liberal socialists, who are intolerant of competing views, are counting on Americans to remain dumb sheep.
“Read what President Abraham Lincoln said in his Proclamation for a National Day of Fasting, Humiliation, and Prayer on April 30, 1863:
“We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven. We have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplies and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that has made us! It behooves us then to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.”

Cardinal Designate Timothy Dolan's Article on the HHS Mandate
Cardinal Designate Timothy Dolan’s Article on the HHS Mandate*
“THE RELENTLESS PROCLAIMATION OF THE TRUTH ON THIS HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES MANDATE”
*“The Wall Street Journal”, Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012: “ObamaCare and Religious Freedom”
Religious freedom is the life blood of the American people, the cornerstone of American government. When the Founding Fathers determined that the innate rights of men and women should be enshrined in our Constitution, they so esteemed religious liberty that they made it the first freedom in the Bill of Rights.
In particular, the Founding Fathers fiercely defended the right of conscience. George Washington himself declared: “The conscientious scruples of all men should be treated with great delicacy and tenderness; and it is my wish and desire, that the laws may always be extensively accommodated to them.” James Madison, a key defender of religious freedom and author of the First Amendment, said: “Conscience is the most sacred of all property.”
Scarcely two weeks ago, in its Hosanna-Tabor decision upholding the right of churches to make ministerial hiring decision, the Supreme Court unanimously and enthusiastically reaffirmed these longstanding and foundational principles of religious freedom. The court made clear that they include the right of religious institutions to control their internal affairs. Yet the Obama administration has veered in the opposite direction. It has refused to exempt religious institutions that serve the common good- including Catholic schools, charities and hospitals – from its sweeping new health-care mandate that requires employers to purchase contraception, including abortion-producing drugs, & sterilization coverage for their employees…
Since then, hundreds of religious institutions, and hundreds of thousands of individual citizens, have raised their voices in principled opposition to this requirement that religious institutions and individuals violate their own basic moral teaching in their health plans. Certainly many of these good people and groups were Catholic, but many were Americans of other faiths, or no faith at all, who recognize that their beliefs could be on the block. They also recognize that the cleverest way for the government to erode the broader principle of religious freedom is to target unpopular beliefs first.
Now we have learned that those loud and strong appeals were ignored. On Friday, the administration reaffirmed the mandate, and offered only a one-year delay in enforcement in some in some cases – as we might suddenly be more willing to violate our conscience 12 months from now… The rule forces insurance companies to provide these services without a co-pay, suggesting they are “free” – but it is naïve to believe that. There is no free lunch, and you can be sure there’s no free abortion, sterilization or contraception. There will be a source of funding: you. Coercing religious ministries and citizens to pay directly for actions that violate their teaching is an unprecedented incursion into freedom of conscience.
The Catholic Church defends religious liberty, including freedom of conscience for everyone. The Amish do not carry health insurance. The government respects their principles. Christian Scientists want to heal by prayer alone, and the new health-care reform law respects that. Quakers and other object to killing even in wartime and the government respects that principle for conscientious objectors.
BY ITS DECISION, THE OBAMA ADMINISTRTATION HAS FAILED TO SHOW THE SAME RESPECT FOR THE CONSCIENCES OF CATHOLICS AND OTHERS WHO OBJECT TO TREATING PREGANCY AS A DISEASE…
DUPLICATE & SHARE: “The Washington Post” is opposed to this HHS mandate. All newspapers must do likewise.

The Direct Attack on Catholics!
The Direct Attack on Catholics!
In pursuit of the truth – www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com – Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012
“Original message from Brian Burch, President CatholicVote.org”
Pres. Obama informed Archbp Dolan today (Jan. 22, 2012) that the proposed mandate requiring all insurance plans to pay for contraception, sterilization and some abortion drugs is official – and Catholics cannot escape. Please read below and remarks from Pope Benedict to our bishops.
Dear Friends,
Get ready to pay. This morning President Obama called New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan to break the news. Secretary of Health and Human Services and pro-abortion Catholic Kathleen Sebelius just announced that the proposed mandate requiring all insurance plans to pay for contraception, sterilization and some abortion drugs is official – and Catholics cannot escape…
Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan responded minutes ago saying: “In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences.” Beginning August 1, 2012 (less than eight months today), the insurance premiums we pay, including insurance premiums paid by Catholics for employees of churches and schools – will be used to cover drugs and procedures that are in direct conflict with the teachings of our Church.
That’s right. Our government will now force us to pay for insurance coverage for birth control, sterilization and even some abortion drugs.
President Obama ignored the organized efforts of Catholics across the country, including bold statements from the Bishops, university presidents (including Notre Dame’s Rev. Jenkins), and even his Catholic allies like Sr. Carol Keehan.
Instead, President Obama stood with his real friends – Planned Parenthood. Make no mistake; this decision is a direct attack on you, our Church, and the religious liberty of all Americans. Just yesterday, Pope Benedict XVI addressed the bishops from the United States who were completing their “Ad Limina” visit in Rome. The Holy Father specifically cited the “grave threats” to the freedom of the Church in America, and urged the Catholic community to respond, especially with “an engaged articulate and well-formed Catholic laity.”
He’s talking to you and me. The Holy Father’s brief address is a must read (link below). Finally, today marks exactly one year from Inauguration Day. In exactly 12 months, America will welcome a new president, or usher in four more years of Barack Obama and his assault on our liberties… We built Catholic Vote into a movement to advance the cause of life, family, and freedom. Today’s decision is an assault on all three. And it MUST be defeated. …
George H. Kubeck, The contempt of the secularists on Christians is like living under a fascist/communist regime. We have a constitutional crisis in the violation of our 1st Amendment religious rights.

Washington D.C. - The March for Life - 2012 - # 1
Washington, D.C. -The March for Life- 2012 – Part 1
Proclaim the truth world-wide about abortion - Monday, January 23, 2012
EWTN Television: 8 A.M. Host Doug Heck and Father Joseph- The weather is rainy and cold.
Interviews prior to the March: Jim and John Pinto from Birmingham, Alabama.
“There are marches happening over the weekend throughout the country and the world. The Pontiff, “Born in this time to be witnesses to the gospel and it’s affecting others.” The pro-life movement is bigger, younger and more strategic than ever. We are a movement and we are growing. I can get out there and march. God is for the people. We do this family by family and block and block. Hopefully over 200,000 participants: In Birmingham, we had 7 abortion mills. Today it is only 2. Social communication is a highway to promote pro-life throughout the world. God is using EWTN TV.
From Heartbeat International: Peggy- Director: “Pregnancy centers are good for America. Women do choose life and we meet with Representative in Congress and share the list of services we have and we share with them.” One lady’s comment, “Get may life back in track. This what Heartbeat International did for me?” There are 4,000 Pregnancy Centers around the country. Heartbeat International is a resource center to these centers.
From Human Life International: President Father Shene Boquet “What happens here is a message to the rest of the world. Stand together to change the mandate of HHS: (Health and Human Services) the Cardinal is calling us to arms.
Dr. John at Divine Mercy Care on the HHS Mandate enunciated on Friday, January 20, 2012: “There bureaucrats telling us that we as Catholics need to compromise our conscience and faith. Our conscience is private. We should not be allowed to bring it into the public field. It is a direct frontal assault on our Catholic faith.
“All Catholics need to live our faith. How many in the pews opt out of their beliefs? It is an opportunity for us to share and catechize. It is a direct assault on Catholic Health Care. Abortion is not good medicine; and to provide it for free and that is good health.
“They tell us that medicine is about choice. We must honor the dignity of the human person. Hate the disease but love the patient. Medicine is an act of mercy transforming hearts. This is the theme throughout the day.”
George H. Kubeck
P.S. CatholicVote.org: by Thomas Peters “Obama Administration Decides to Require Religious Institutions to cover Free Contraception and Sterilization? Liberals are crowing about what they see as a huge victory for them … victory at the expense of religious liberty… Obama 2012 reelection plan: ignore and marginalize people of faith…” Please access Cardinal DiNardo’s Pro-Life Homily at Sunday’s Mass Jan. 21st – at the Immaculate Conception Church and also designated Cardinal Timothy Dolan remarks on the HHS Mandate.

Personal History:
In 2010, I was blessed and became a life-professed member of the Dominican Laity. I was born in Montreal, Canada on December 18, 1930. I graduated from Loyola College (Montreal) in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. From July to Oct. 1954, I travelled throughout Europe via a backpack, trains and youth hostels.
As a legal immigrant, I joined the U.S. Army in 1958 and honorably discharged in 1962, and obtained U.S. citizenship in less than five years. I was an elementary school teacher from 1963 to 1986 with the Westminster School District, Orange County, California.
In 1967-68, I wrote a series of 14 letters titled “Why Nixon in 1968?” In 1969, I received a M.A. in U.S. History from Pepperdine College in Los Angeles. Thanks to Intercollegiate College Studies Institute for their indirect financial assistance during the summer months. The thesis was “Alexander Hamilton’s Criticism of John Adams’ Foreign Policy.”
I am a member of the Knights of Columbus Cypress Councils 8599 and Mission San Juan Capistrano Assembly 0062. For more than 15 years I have written the monthly pro-life message for the Knights of Columbus bulletins. Also at about the same time I still participate in rosary prayer vigils on Wednesdays and Fridays for about an hour in the morning at abortion mills. The present one is at 2777 Long Beach Blvd., Long Beach Ca. & across the street from L.B. Memorial Hospital.
My parish is St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in L.A. County. (Hawaiian Gardens)
I am a conservative member of the “Anaheim Republican Assembly” and participant in the 405/605 Patriotic Tea Party that meets monthly at Leisure World, Seal Beach, California. I believe that the California Republican Party is a one-hand–tied- behind -your-back political party.
I hate a raw deal. I believe that Catholics and other Christians are misinformed when the vote for Catholic-in-name only politicians like Nancy Pelosi and Loretta Sanchez in Orange County. That’s why I began this educational, religious and political blog in 2006. The website is under my name or www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com or cinops be gone. Today, there are more than 1300 letters of information and persuasion. Thanks for reading some of these letters!

P.S. I believe that the mindset and policies of our President Barrack Obama are real threats to the very existence of our beloved traditional America. I mean our historic values, freedom and religious liberties. Obama is like Iran is to Israel. Fortunately, this year we can vote our President out of office in an honest, not a Chicago type of election which I fear. Hopefully, KLAC 870 talk show hosts like Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt will explain all of the aforementioned and more to their radio listeners. Dennis Prager already does.
Question: How do we deal with, or how much credibility do we give to the Pravda or Goebbels type two-faced & double standard news media? The slant of the N.Y. Times promotes the culture of death values & policies.
