    "The letter from Cardinal Ratzinger to Cardinal McCarrick was clearly intended to all Catholic bishops, but apparently McCarrick did not initially disclose that.Further, Cardinal McCarrick publicly mischaracterized Ratrzinger's letter, saying that Communion "may be denied," but Cardinal Ratzinger said it "must be denied."

     Two years later, Cardinal McCarrick was still advocating that the bishops keep "hands off" pro-abortion politicians. McCarrick, when addressing Canadian bishops, quoted Jesuit Cardinal-Deacon Avery Dulles: "... the Church incurs a danger of alienating judges, legislators and public administrators, whose good will is needed for other good programs, such as the support of Catholic education and the care of the poor. For all these reasons, the Church is reluctant to discipline politicians in a public way, even when its clear that their positions are morally indefensible.

    "IN OTHER WORDS, DON'T HOLD CATHOLIC POLITICIANS ACCOUNTABLE FOR IMMORAL ACTIONS BECAUSE GOVERNMENT FUNDING COULD DRY UP. ...Unfortunately, this policy advocated by then-cardinal McCarrick remains operative despite the recent revelation of moral crimes Cardinal McCarrick had committed.

    Another significant problem is that state Catholic conferences often publish voting records or candidate questionnaires which tally votes or positions on a number of issues such as on gun control, benefits for those in our country illegally, increased social welfare programs and other liberal positions promoted by the Democratic Party, as if these issues could possibly be compared to the 60 million lives lost through abortion in America alone since 1973! Such vote summaries or candidate questionnaires have the dangerous effect of "sanitizing" the pro-abortion, pro-LGBTQ votes of Democrats who support the Catholic conference's positions, even though these Democrats support abortion on demand.

Such vote tallies and candidate surveys are often published in Catholic newspapers or passed out in churches, giving Catholics in the pew a reason to vote for Democrats who support abortion and same-sex "marriage," because the Democrats agree on most "other issues" the Church chooses to highlight. While Church teaching is clear on abortion, same-sex marriage and assisted suicide, the Church does not teach that government should increase regulation of weapons used in self-defense or defense of another person, nor does the Church teach that every social welfare program is mandated by the gospel.

The reluctance of most American bishops to openly challenge official actions of pro-abortion, overwhelmingly Democrat Catholic politicians will also give Catholics a green light to vote for any of the Democrat 2020 presidential candidates who are intensely pro-abortion and pro-gender confusion.

... I will never forget the lessons I, Robert Marshal, Learned as a congressional aide on Capitol Hill in the late 1970s and early '80. Whether a fair criticism or not, the underlying word on the Hill was that the Catholic bishops were willing to "trade" babies (abortion) for books (aid to Catholic schools). (You were not the only one Robert, thousands of us who were praying at the abortion sites like myself and passing out pro-baby literature felt a betrayal ourselves. ghk)

" Since the bust of of the Mueller report, and the evaporation of countless other "blockbuster" exposes, the media's credibility in the ongoing impeachment saga is now widely doubted, even if this time they may actually be right about presidential misdeeds.

    This divide can be seen in public perceptions of the news media. Although somewhat improved from its low point in 2016, only 40 percent of Americans, according to Gallup, trust the media, compare to over 50 percent in 1999. As befits the media's increasing partisan stance, the small improvement over 2016 comes almost entirely from Democrats.

 

Only 15% of Republicans and barely a third of independents now trust media compared to nearly 70% of Democrats. Once the news media had enough sense of propriety and professionalism to at least maintain an appearance of objectivity.There's ample reason, as Glenn Reynolds suggests, to see that many mainstream journalists are little more than "Democrats with bylines," willing participants in what long-time leftists and fiercely and anti-Trump reporter Matt Taibbi describes as the upper bureaucracy's "Permanent Coup," against Trump. If this "coup" now actually succeeds, it will be one that will simply accentuate hostility to the media among large segments of the population.

 

Media faces an economic crisis:

No president has suffered such total opposition from powerful media. In his first year in office stories about Trump were 62 percent negative, notes Pew, almost three the rate for Obama and more than twice that for George W. Bush, certainly no media favorite. His positive coverage was barely 5 percent. one-eight that enjoyed by President Obama... The New York Times de facto leader of the anti-Trump media lynch mod, has seen its subscription burgeon, notably online.

 

But the Times enjoys a unique status with upper-class, educated readers. In contrast the mass audience seems to be turned off with the non-stop political haranguing. The almost comical anti-Trump CNN has seen its ratings drop so far that it now trails not only prime time leaders Fox, behind ESPN, Hallmark Chanel, History,TBS and others. Overall, all forms of media have suffered double digit drops since 2016 according to Pew.

 

The timing couldn't be worse.. Google alone made $4.7 billion alone last year from news publishers whose industry continues to shrink ...  Over 1800 local papers have gone out of existence since 2004...

When I was a young reporter, papers like the Kansas City Star, the Louisville Courier and the old L.A. Herald Examiner were well-staffed, great dailies that not only covered news, but often with a very different perspective than the large coastal media. ...

 

Today that kind of working-class journalist has been replaced by younger reporters who often hail from elite universities  These young journalist, as Obama speechwriter Ben Rhoades noted did not have to cover city councils and other boring local minutiae... They may be good test-takers, but literally know nothing about the real world that people unlike, themselves inhabit...

 

Many in media hope non-stop impeachment coverage, or continued unraveling of Trump's inner circle, with both revive their fortunes and expel the hated Trump. The murky events in Ukraine also could undermine the credibility of the fledgling pro-Trump media, which could lead to even greater media homogeneity. The emergency impeachment saga is likely to accelerate not only the alienation of much of the population from the press but also create challenges for our democracy.

 

With the demise of press diversity and openness, readers will be increasing faced with a media that barely hides it prejudices, but instead offers largely alternative realities that may be only occasionally real and rarely edifying."

Personal Commentary:

     I recall in the Spring of 1962, my brief time as a substitute elementary school teacher in Waltham, Mass. At the beginning of class we read from the Bible. Then the Supreme Court came down with its decision. This is contrary to the Constitution. Well it wasn't! "Judeo-Christian values are at the very root of America's democracy and success." All of the American Christian Churches blundered for not getting prayer back in the schools via a Constitutional  vote.                                                                                                                         

    Secondly, they blundered again in the Roe v.Wade decision of 1973. A decision made without human scientific facts.  When is the unborn baby a human person? Churches failed to reverse this decision.

   

     Thirdly, The New York Times newspaper is a Harlot. She prostitutes the Freedom of the Press in America. The New York Times is today for the Leftist Demo Party what Pravda (Truth) was to Stalin's Communist Party in Russia. Do we allow this subversive news media in our Democracy and Republic? I would like to see Founding Father and my favorite Alexander Hamilton wrestle with that decision. If we do not learn anything from the "Venona Secrets" we will repeat the mistakes, treason.   "In January 2019, prominent Evangelical Protestant, Rev. Franklin Graham, son of the renowned Rev. Billy Graham, sent "tweets" to N.Y. Cardinal Dolan urging him to excommunicate "Catholic" N.Y. Governor Cuomo for signing and celebrating the third-trimester abortion law. On Fox News,  Cardinal Dolan responded that excommunication "would be counter-productive" 'Cardinal Dolan spokesman pointed out that San Diego Bishop Leo Maher in 1989 barred Catholic State Assemblywoman Lucy Killea from receiving Communion.                                                                                                               

  
  She later appeared on the Phil Donohue Show to explain that she would not change her Faith or her abortion position. Killea won a seat in the California state senate. However, Cardinal Dolan cannot legitimately assume that Bishops Maher's refusal to allow Killea to receive Communion in 1989 was responsible for Killea's ... already had high name identification from serving 5 years on the San Diego City Council etc... Bishop Maher's action was necessary to teach Killea and the faithful the seriousness of the crime of abortion. Prudence is a virtue, but possible political ramification should not trump proclaiming truth.' This was a Cop-Out by Cardinal Dolan; a fatal mistake!]

In the past, some American bishops bad publicly excommunicated Catholics who opposed the bishop' efforts to racially integrate Catholic schools. Sadly, there are too few bishops willing to take this step over the civil rights injustice of our age, taking the lives of unborn children without due process. If a governor of a state can pave the way for even more killings of innocent unborn children and remain a member of the Catholic Church, the laity intuits that the crime of abortion cannot be a serious infraction. This reality, I believe, has given Catholics in the pew a green light to vote for Democrats who support abortion, same-sex "marriage," and assisted suicide.

"We are giving them the option to terminate a life, but what about those who want to continue the pregnancy? Where is the help for those women."

have written about them in my blog. I'm one of the many voices crying in the wilderness. The mindset of the CINOP is a diabolical threat to the integrity of our Catholic faith and our country. Historically, the CINOP has become an agent and leader for the Culture of Death in America. Witness Pelosi, Biden and Cuomo. The least the Catholic Cardinals & Bishops would've done is: censure them. Ask them:  Don't use the Catholic Label when running for office. They didn't. Today they promotes the culture of death.                                         

   
 Well they are going to have to do it this year whether they like it not. Truly the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who remain silent or neutral during this great moral crisis. "It appears there has been no news coverage of bishops fraternally correcting those Catholic congressmen who voted for the Equality Act, continuing a lack of public criticism allowing Catholic politicians to publicly vote for and speak if favor of this Act and other morally harmful legislation with no public scrutiny or ecclesiastical penalty.

   
 Lawyers working for the U.S. Catholic Conference and various diocese appear to be more protective of the the Church's tax exempt status than of the moral principles of the Church is ordained to uphold. This is puzzling considering that one of the questions St. Peter will obviously not asked American Catholic bishops in the next life is,"How well did you protect the tax-exempt status of the Church?"  [The bishops are prisoners of lawyers. We need pro-life and pro-marriage Catholic lawyers.]

   
 In 2020, if Democrats maintain the majority in the U.S. House of Representative and win the majority of the U.S. Senate, and if President Donald Trump is defeated in part because of public criticism by the U.S. bishops, it is almost certain that the grossly misnamed "Equality Act" will become law with all of its destructive consequences to the Church &society. [Whose side are the U.S. Catholic Bishops on?]

   
 The very tax-exempt status the Church has carefully sought to protect will be significantly eroded if not totally eliminated, financially impacting parishes, schools, hospitals, food pantries, group homes, shelters, soup kitchens, adoption agencies, etc.

  
  Believing that the First Amendment will protect Catholic programs assumes that the Constitution is a self-executing document. Sexual progressives and liberal lawyers will almost surely use the 14th amendment to claim they are merely seeking "equal protection" and freedom from discrimination.

   Furthermore, the Equality Act removes the protection of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (RFRA).The Judiciary Committee Report for the Equality Act states: "The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (42 U.S.C. 2000bb et seq.) shall not provide a claim concerning, or a defense to a claim under, a covered title, or provide a basis for challenging the application or enforcement of a covered title."...

DUTIES OF A BISHOP

    "Are our bishops, when confronted with obviously anti-Catholic legislation, required to correct politicians, especially Catholic politicians, who support such policies, or is private criticism enough? In October, 2004, Pope St. John Paul II met in Rome with representatives of the U.S. Catholic bishops where he spelled out the bishops' duties:" remember that your sacred responsibility to teach  sanctify and govern cannot be surrendered to anyone else: it is your personal vocation."

     
 Regarding life, marriage and God's creation of "male and female," much more could b taught through pastoral letters, Prayers of the Faithful offered during Mass, notices in the Church bulletins, letters read at Mass ... Some of the most powerful witnesses in defense of human life have been open about their past abortion wounds.... I offer the experience of one Christian pastor who feared feared that if he mentioned abortion in a sermon, ... It wasn't until after he counseled numerous distraught women from his church, that he realized he could have spared these women deep suffering if he had spoken the truth earlier. He subsequently changed his thinking and his sermons.

Informing Catholics in the pew about proposed unjust laws that will impact their church, their families and society should not be considered controversial or "political." Sharing information in the form of petitions, pulpit announcements, form letters, and educational flyers would definitely help motivate and educate Catholics to oppose harmful legislation and support helpful legislation. (example: SB 70)

....Thankfully, several cardinal and bishops, including Cardinal Raymond Burke, Bishop Thomas Daly, Archbishop Thomas Tobin, Bishop Thomas Paprocki, Archbishop Charles Chaput, Archbishop Joseph Nauman, and others understand the scandal and confusion caused by "Catholic" legislators who publicity support egregious policies contrary to our faith. They have fraternally corrected those who violate serious moral principles..."

"As for the United States, when we had over 2,100 abortion clinics, our abortion rate was more than 5,000 a day and going up; now it is less than 3,000 a day and dropping.

There is no denying that 3,000 babies still being killed every day is a national disgrace, and it tells us that we still have a long way to go. But to belittle or ignore the accomplishments of the pro-life is pure nonsense. It expects us to believe that the abortion rate plummeted for some mysterious reason that had nothing to do with the pro-life movement, and it dismisses the millions of babies saved by our efforts as if they don't count.

The fact is, the Soviet Union was a prototype for what happens in any country is allowed to operate without opposition or restraint, if not for the pro-life movement, that pattern would have been repeated in the United States. In that case, our abortion rate would not have gone from 5,000 a day to 3,000. It would have gone from 5,000 a day to 10,000 or who knows how many, So today, we would not be standing on the graves of 65 million dead babies, but 150 million, or 250 million or, again, who knows how many....

It is understandable that the pro-life community would, from time to time, become discouraged. This is a brutal life-and-death struggle against odds that often seem over overwhelming. In addition we have to fight this battle in a world where we are routinely lied to and lied about, and stabbed in the back by those we trusted.

In such an environment, it is easy to become fixated on our failures and mistakes. But falling into that trap is the biggest mistakes of all. It not only distracts us from the battle, it also hides from us the fact that we have already saved millions of babies and we save thousands more every day. And yes, that is a fact....

The good news is, in order to win we do not have to be perfect; we have to be faithful. Remember God told us that the gates of hell would not prevail against those who follow Him. If we will just accept that promise as the source of our strength and our resolve, victory is assured. After all, if the front door of an abortion clinic is not a gate into hell, then hell does not even exist.

Going forward, we need to never forget that this is not a war between the pro-life movement and the unborn. You and I are just soldiers who sided up to fight on the side of the unborn. It is a pact we voluntarily entered and it meant we would be the only thing standing between those children and the ruthless savages in the abortion lobby.

That commitment remains in place today and to honor it we have to make certain that what we lack in perfection we make up for in perseverance. And that is exactly what we are going to do! Our movement can be criticized for many things, but we have never, and will never, run away from the sacrifices that must be made, or the burdens that must be borne, or the obstacies that must be overcome.

So wherever God places us on the battlefield, and whatever role He assigns us, we will do our duty, storm the gates, and trust Him to deliver the victory. In the meantime, we will not let Satan rub our noses in our failures and we will not follow him onto any snow covered bridges."  Mark

P.S. When honest journalism is dead in the New York Times; and the U.S. Catholic Church has allowed the CINOP  (Catholic-in-name-only politician) to get away with the murder of the unborn, we have a most serious moral crisis and and because of this the culture of death is winning. The least action the Pro-Life Movement wanted of the CINOP from the Catholic Bishops: The censure: "DO NOT USE THE CATHOLIC LABEL WHEN RUNNING FOR OFFICE!"

    This is what the Baptist and Mormon leaders would have done. Instead, all U.S. Catholic bishops are in a dilemma. In the past, their decision was silence or neutrality. In today's 2020 election, the hottest places in Hell are reserved for those bishops who are silent or neutral during today's moral crisis.

  In 1992 there were more than 2,100 abortion clinics in America. Today, there are fewer than 600 and most of them are grasping for air. You can be assured that if the pro-life movement had never existed, there would be abortion clinics in every mall and shopping center in the country. and that is only the beginning. If there had never been a pro-life movement...

 

a. the unborn would be politically invisible and their right-to-life would not even be discussed.

b. it would be common for high schools and universities to have abortion clinics on-site

 

c. abortion would be the default position for every unplanned pregnancy.

d. there would be no crisis pregnancy centers

 

e. abortion would be the recognized medical 'treatment' for every baby diagnosed as less than perfect.

f.  it would be standard procedure for babies of the "undesired" gender to be aborted.

 

g.  no one would object to aborted babies being chopped up and sold for spare parts or used in ghastly medical experiments.

h.  euthanasia would be the accepted medical response to babies born alive after botched abortion.

 

i.  every abortion would be paid for with tax dollars.

j.  public opinion would not be shifting toward the pro-life position.

 

k. minorities and young people would not be coming into the pro-life movement at a rate never seen before.

 

    That list goes on and on and the message is clear: had it not been for the pro-life movement, America would have long ago devolved into a country where the killing of an unborn child had no more moral significance than the pulling of a decayed tooth.

 

    If you doubt that's true, consider what took place in the Soviet Union. After it became the first industrialized nation in the world to legalize abortion, all organized opposition to abortion was banned by the government.

 

    Decades later, researchers found that Soviet women were having an average of nine abortions. Another study documented that 90 percent of all first pregnancies and 60 percent of all subsequent pregnancies were legally aborted, and many others ended in illegal or unreported abortions..."
