    On Nov. 4, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez made one of the most brilliant addresses given in Catholic circles in recent memory. His speech was given at the Congress of Catholic and Public Life in Madrid, Spain.

    Like so many other Catholic intellectuals, Gomez is rightly concerned about radical secularization that has taken root in the Western World. Unlike most of them, he has been in the trenches. I know that because the Catholic League has assisted him in his efforts to combat the agenda of secular zealots, made plain, for instance, in attempts to break the seal of the confessional.

    Gomez takes direct aim at the ruling class, those who occupy the command post in the United States and Europe. "In the elite world-view," he says, "there is no need for old-fashioned belief systems and religions. In fact, as they see it, religion, especially Christianity, only gets in the way of the society they hope to build." He offers as an example the "cancel culture" that is so prevalent.

 

    There can be no denying the veracity of Gomez's observation. Anyone who dares challenge the conventional wisdom, on issues ranging from critical race theory to gender ideology, is a candidate for censorship. It is not those who promote these pernicious views who are being silenced, it those who challenge them.

    Sociologists have long understood that  when the dominant culture strain in society atrophies, it is filled with an ersatz philosophical or religious variant. Power vacuums never last long. Thus Gomez is right to call to the extent to which the de-Christianization of the West has been replaced by movements such as "social justice," "wokeness," "identity politics" and the like

  "They claim," as he perceptively notes, "to offer what religion provides." Indeed. they provide a sense of meaning, a purpose for living, and feeling belonging to a community."This is exactly what the great sociologists have been saying for over a hundred and fifty years. Sadly, it is now happening in the United States.

    Gomez's critics take umbrage at this comment that the reining movement functions a new religion. He properly notes that today's critical theories and ideologies are profoundly atheistic." Anyone who follows what the proponents of these ideologies espouses know that Gomez is right. Indeed, they don't even try to hide their animus against Christianity. 

 

    John McWhorter is a Columbia University professor and he understands what Gomez is talking about. An African American, he has written a book, Woke Racism: How a New Religion Has Betrayed Black America. Both men call attention to identity politics an radical race theories -which judge people on the basis of their race, not individual characteristics. These ideological currents are not only profoundly racist in themselves, they satisfy the religious yearnings of those drawn to them.

    As a man of God. Gomez wants us to repair to the Gospel, not to "these new religions of social justice and political identity." But to his critics, many of whom are Catholic theologians, what he says is verboten. Some no doubt would like to cancel him.

    Franciscan Father Daniel Horan is upset with Gomez for making a speech that exhibits a "shocking disconnection from reality." Too bad he never says what the disconnect is. He cites for support a left-wing Jesuit theologian, Fr. Bryan Massingale, who, according to Horan, said the problem is that bishops like Gomez "Have the audacity to speak with unearned authority about issues they clearly do not understand."

    It would be hard to find a more arrogant example of professorial elitism than this. Readers should know that Horan and Massingale spend much of their time writing and lecturing about homosexual and transgender issues. Gomez spends much of his time writing and lecturing about the Catholic Church He is president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Thus he has earned the authority to speak about any issue of interest to the Catholic Community.

    Fr. Tom Reese wonders why Gomez "abandoned" the term "social justice" to those he considers the enemy of religion, especially when social justice has a place in the "long history of the church's

 social teaching." This is a serious misreading of Gomez's address. He has not abandoned social justice - the term been hijacked by those whose ideology sharply departs from the Catholic Churches understanding of it...

    That is what makes Gomez's presentation so valuable. He sees what is going on in the United States and Europe and beckons us to get back to basics, the basics outlined by Jesus. If we do not resist the forces of decadence and division, the future will soon become unrecognizable.

    The American way of life has changed in many ways over our long history, as Americans have become more numerous, diverse, prosperous, urban and mobile. Three characteristics have endured from the founding as a live and let live attitude, a belief in opportunity and initiative, and a strong sense of patriotism.  The first first two embody our ideals of liberty and equality; the third is the spirit that holds everything together.

 

    First, most of us are attached to ways of living that are characteristics of our localities, ethnic heritages, family traditions, religious, vocations, and so on - but recognize and appreciate, that many of our countrymen are attached to other distinctive, worthy ways and traditions. Live-and-let- live has fortified rather than divided our nation.

 

    We have been for example, a notable religious people without tearing ourselves apart over matters of doctrine and revelation - and religious movements have made many illustrious contribution to our national development.  [ Many people remain attached to tradition, but the woke have a host of advantages.] 

 

    Second we are united by an ethic of equal opportunity for all. This is not an abstract creed but a set of living practices. It depends on robust private initiative and public commitment - to the rule of law, limited government, and wide freedoms of inquiry, belief and speech and of association and industry.

 

    Third, our patriotism is strong because it based on gratitude - for our stupendous natural resources and geography, for our long-lived Constitution and political system that have gotten us through  many hard challenges, for the deeds of our ancestors, for the living practices of liberty and equality. This American patriotism is not aggressive and does not have a chip on its shoulder; it is attached to our national inheritance rather than to the state; it is unifying rather than dividing.

 

    Today's woke progressives believe that these feature of the American Way are lies and illusions - to be woke means to have woken up to the realities concealed by happy talk about liberty, equality and opportunity. Progressives want to replace live-and-let live with identity politics of grievance and resentment among racial, sexual, and other groups of envy of "the rich." They would replace equal opportunity with preference and penalties for officially identified groups, and individual initiatives with government provisions for even routine incidence of life. In the service of these goals, they would restrict each of the freedoms I have itemized. Finally, by opening our borders, and by recasting our history as a story of unmitigated evil, progressives [communists] would depose American nationhood; they favor the sovereignty of the unmoored, and uncontrained self.

 

    A great many Americans remain attached to our traditional ideals and ways of life and are aghast at the strange ideologies sweeping their institutions, from Wall Street to local schools. But progressivism [communism] has become a powerful force. It draws upon the decline of family, religion, and locality and on the tribalism of social media and the internet. It has the advantages of passionate conviction, elite validation, and bureaucratic entrenchment. Which American way will eventually prevail is an open question.

LAST FLIGHT FROM KABULL!

  " The last American left Kabul on Monday - before the Aug. 31 deadline as the Taliban and President Biden had insisted- ending a 20 year conflict but also diminishing the hope of escape for tens of thousands of Afghan interpreters and others who helped America. The frantic evacuation flights managed to get many out, but this was a shameful day in American history, no matter how much the White House wants to spin it otherwise. A DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY AS THOUSANDS ARE LEFT BEHIND.

 

    Aug. 31 was the arbitrary deadline Mr. Biden set out when he thought he would be able to board on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 that he had ended a "forever war." He refused to extend the date despite pleas from NATO allies and knowing the date was too soon to evacuate the deserving. Mr. Biden nonetheless told Americans that he would evacuate all Americans who wanted to leave.

 

    His deadline meant that the evacuation failed as much as his withdrawal strategy did. An unknown number of Americans - perhaps a few hundred - weren't able to leave on the last flights. Nonprofit groups estimate that as many as 60,000 Afghans who fought or assisted the NATO mission were left behind. 

 

    Many are hiding amid reports that special Taliban squads are searching for the names on lists that they may have acquired in the willy-nilly U.S. withdrawal. Many will be tortured and killed, and their families too. Incredibly, Mr. Biden plans to rely on the mercy of the Taliban to get the remaining people out on commercial or charter flights. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is already laying the groundwork for this American pleading as he says that the Taliban has reason to cooperate to earn international goodwill and presumably access to foreign aid. The apt phrase for this is paying diplomatic ransom.

 

    The catalogue of strategic and military misjudgments that led to this ignominious are many, and they flow from the current President of the United States. He insisted on a rapid and complete departure despite the recommendation of most advisers to keep a residual force. He insisted on leaving Bagram and other airfields, taking U,S, contractors who were needed to keep the Afghan air force flying.

 

    After the government fell, Mr. Biden refused to alter his plan in order to create safe paces beyond the Kabul airport to help with the evacuation. That would have required more troops and Mr. Biden was set on rapid withdrawal to vindicate his original decision. 

 

    The Washington Post reports that,amid the Afghan government's collapse,  the Taliban offered to let the U.S, provide security in Kabul.Mr. Biden and U.S. military said all they needed was the airport. Mr. Biden also chose to rely on the Taliban for security around the airport with the deadly results of 13 young Americans servicemen and women.

 

    Mr. Biden and his aides have been repeating like a mantra that there will be time for assessing responsibility for what went wrong and why after the evacuation ends. That should start immediately. A national-security calamity of this magnitude demands an accounting, and it should start  at the top.

It was last week, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly recommended that legal action be taken by the Attorney - General of each State against President Biden for breaking the immigration laws of the U.S.A. Let the Supreme Court decide and make a legal judgment on this matter. 

 

    What is happening in Afghanistan was a political decision  and we are paying the price of "Woke" and "Critical Race Theory" which screws up your thinking. It is a kind of subversive national cancer, evil and diabolical. It's a spiritual challenge for the country.

    Dear Eagles and Friends, What is so bad about ethnic studies ( Calif. Ethnic Studies Course, AB 101)? It is designed to make the bad even worse.

1) It emphasizes everything negative about our country and the white people in it. This is racism pure and simple - but racism against the whites. It teaches that whites were and are the privileged, oppressive ones: it paints our American history & our white founding fathers in a very negative light.

    Elected officials in the United States are "liars" that don't care about telling the truth.

Strickland made the comments after he and Barber were talking about the rising level of fear being stoked in the United States. Strickland said people should "fear God" and not fear death, a likely reference to coronavirus propaganda being pushed with the so-called "Delta" variant.

 

Strickland called on Catholics to pray for their bishops and to realize that even though there is "corruption in the church" taking place, there's many members of the clergy fighting to prevent the compromising that is going in the Church.

 

His Excellency also re-iterated his opposition to the unworthy reception of the Holy Eucharist at Mass.

    "The New York attorney general's office released its long awaited report against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

 

    The 165 page report issued by Attorney General Letitia James detailed a pattern of alleged sexual harassment by Mr. Cuomo, and portrayed a work-place rife with bullying and intimidation.

 

    Investigators, who said they reviewed more than 74,000 pieces of evidence and interviewed 179 people since launching the the probe in March, concluded the following:

 

    Mr. Cuomo harassed 11 women by engaging in unwanted and inappropriate groping, kissing, hugging, and making sexually suggestive comments.

 

    Mr. Cuomo and senior officials took unlawful retaliatory actions by trying to discredit and disparage a former employee for coming forward with allegations of harassment by the governor.

 

    Mr. Cuomo sexual harassment and the retaliation against a former staffer violated multiple state and federal laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the New York State Human Rights Law, as well as his office's own equal employment policies.

 

    Mr. Cuomo's office didn't ensure employees understood or enforced the policies and procedures in place regarding work place sexual harassment. This failure exacerbated challenges female staffers already faced in reporting sexual harassment. 

 

    The office was a hostile and abusive work environment which normalized the governor's flirtations behavior and paved the way for harassment to occur. 

 

    Some witnesses said Mr. Cuomo's "special attention was a better alternative to the otherwise tense, stressful and toxic experience."
