PREFACE: Padre Pio was contemporary Franciscan Capuchin priest and bore the wounds on his body for more than fifty years. He died in 1986. Having the Stigmata, means having on one's body the "marks resembling wounds on the crucified body of Jesus Christ." There have been about sixty accepted instances of the stigmata in the Catholic Church's history. Padre Pio was the first priest in the history of the Catholic Church to receive the visible Stigmata.

PADRE PIO ON THE MASS

Matthew 26:26-28 "...Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke, and gave to His disciples, and said: Take ye, and eat: This is my body. And taking the chalice He gave thanks: and gave to them, saying:Drink ye all of this. For this is my blood of the new testament which shall be shed for many for the remissions of sins."

According to some estimates, around twenty million people have seen Padre Pio offer the Mass. Concerning the value of the Mass, Padre Pio said: "If men only appreciated the value of a holy Mass they would need traffic officers at church doors every day to keep crowds in order.

Padre Pio was asked what his Mass meant to him. He responded: "It is a sacred participation in the passion of Jesus. All that the Lord suffered in His passion, I suffer, to the extent that it is possible to a human being. And that is part from any merit of mine, but entirely to His goodness."

Padre Pio: Every holy Mass, heard with devotion produces in our souls marvelous effects, abundant spiritual and material graces which we, ourselves, do not know. It is easier for the earth to exist without the sun than without the holy Sacrifice of the Mass."

PADRE PIO ON RECEIVING COMMUNION

John 6:54-55 "Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen, I say to you: Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, you shall have life in you. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up on the last day."

Padre Pio was asked about receiving Holy Communion. He responded: "It is and internal and external mercy. An embrace."

Question: "When Jesus comes does he visit only the soul?"

Padre Pio: "The Whole being." 

Question: "What does Jesus do at Communion?" Padre Pio: "He finds delight in His creature."

Question: "Is Communion an incorporation?" 

Padre Pio: "It is a fusion. Like two candles that melt together and are no longer indistinguishable."

Padre Pio, Letter to a spiritual child on receiving Communion: 

"Continue to receive Communion, and don't worry about not being able to receive the Sacrament of Penance. Jesus will prize your good will. Remember what I have told you so often: as long as we are not certain of being in serious sin, we need not abstain from Communion." ...

Padre Pio: "My heart feels drawn by a higher power before being united with Him in the Blessed Sacrament. I have such a hunger and thirst before receiving Him that it would take a little more for me to die of longing.... And rather than remain satisfied after I have received the Sacrament, this hunger and thirst increases even more.

   
 At the moment that I am in possession of this greatest good, then yes, the plenitude of sweetness is truly so great that I almost say to Jesus: Enough! I cannot stand anymore! I forget that I am even in this world. The mind and heart desire nothing more... I sometimes ask myself if there are souls that do not feel their chest burn with divine fire, especially at the moment that they find themselves before Him in the Blessed Sacrament. It seems to me impossible, particularly if the individual is a priest or religious."

 THE POPE KNOWS THIS. THAT IS WHY, IN AN ADDRESS TO THE AMERICAN BISHOPS, HE ALLUDED TO THE WORDS OF ST. PAUL: "BROTHERS IN CHRIST, WHEN WE PREACH THE TRUTH IN LOVE, WE MUST EXPECT TO BE CRITICIZED, FOR WE CANNOT PLEASE EVERYONE. FOR THAT REASON, WE ARE HUMBLY CONVINCED THAT GOD IS WITH US IN OUR SERVICE TO THE TRUTH AND THAT HE 'DOES NOT GIVE US THE SPIRIT OF COWARDICE, BUT A SPIRIT OF POWER AND OF LOVE AND OF SELF-DISCIPLINE.' That is why it had to be realized from the beginning [of his papacy] that one day sooner or later, he would have to face opposition. Significantly, the opposition was strongest when the Pope, in his talks in America, addressed the world that is typically Western - when he addressed our world, when he brought into it the salt of the Gospel, when he exposed our wounds to the light of Christ's message ...

  
  In this criticism there are some elements that we might even find humorous. In the so-called "position papers" with which we were bombarded before the papal election, we were told: the Pope must be charismatic, not bureaucratic. And I find it amusing that it is precisely the individual who customarily speaks of the hierarchy as a "Church of wolves" who now reminds the Pope that the Church cannot be lead by charism alone.

  
  But there are other, more serious, criticisms that must be taken more seriously. We are told, for example, that the Pope is the product of a conservative theology that is appropriate for a conservative country, but he is obviously not familiar with the West and its quite different situation. It is said, moreover, that, by reason of his pastoral role, he should not simply decry and decide; he should discuss and convince.

    
But one who truly listens knows that this Pope has not spent his life in a small and narrow world - and not just because he has already traveled widely in the world, because he has always been surrounded by young people whose enthusiasms, problems, and questions about a world that is, in this sense,still undivided are everywhere the same, but also, more especially, because  as a man, he has himself known and endured all the depths of human life and its sufferings. In the realm of the human heart

   
 He has discovered the world of the human being and has pondered and suffered it anew..By reasons of such journeyings into the adventure of human existence.. He can speak with intimate knowledge and can make the word of faith perceptible again in all its permanence - the word in that sense, is certainly conservative, for it protects the ground of human nature. But, precisely in doing so, it is creative because it does bestows on the individual the possibility of maturity and progress, which cannot exist without a goal.                                                                                                                         

  
  One who listens carefully to the Pope's words, sees as well that they are not issued as commands, but bear within them the whole history of life that has been nourished by the long history of a faith, and regards anew from this perspective; That he looks at himself with self-criticism, whereas we usually turn away and do not look at ourselves. Thus the Pope makes visible to us why what is permanent is also always something new."

CHAPTER 11 - THE SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR --137-139

"As we have seen, almost immediately after his arrival in San Giovanni Rotondo, a "circle of spiritual daughters" gathered about Padre Pio for prayer and counsel. For several years his superiors encouraged him to correspond with them and with women from out of town who sought his advice. Many of these letters have been preserved and shed much light on Padre Pio's spiritual direction....

As time went on, the number of spiritual sons of Padre Pio grew, until, some twenty years later, Padre Agostino would be astounded at the number of men who came to see Padre Pio. One reason why no correspondence has survived with spiritual sons relates to the fact that Padre Pio was more accessible to men than he was to women. Men could confess with him in the sacristy  could be granted permission to see him in his room.

After Padre Pio was finally granted the faculty to hear confession in 1917 by Pasquale Gagliardi, the archbishop of Manfredonia, responsibilities at the friary were divided in such a way that Padre Pio usually heard the confessions of men and Padre Paolino heard those of women. Padre Pio tended to advise his spiritual sons during confession, therefore, rather than through letters. At any rate, it is through his letters to his spiritual daughters that we can  learn a great deal about the advice Pio gave.

Although he heard the confessions of everyone who came to him, of course, Padre Pio was reluctant to accept as a spiritual child a man or woman whom he did not know 'know before the Lord,' about whom the Lord had not granted him some "illumination." .... Pio did not, however, flatter himself. To one of his spiritual daughters he wrote, "To (God) alone and not to me give praise and thanksgiving. You owe nothing to me. I am but an instrument in the hands of God, capable of serving a useful purpose only when handled by the Divine Craftsman. Left to myself, I know how to do nothing except sin and sin again."

The spiritual daughters met twice a week in the guest room of the friary where Padre Pio would discuss the Bible and  "the means of perfection." Maria Companile ... "He took away our doubts and illuminated our spiritual darkness." Pio established five rules for spiritual growth: weekly confession, daily Communion, spiritual reading, meditation, and examination of conscience....

"Meditation," Padre Pio told Campanile, "is the key to progress in the knowledge of self as well as the knowledge of God, and through it we achieve the goal of the spiritual life, which is the transformation of the soul in Christ." He even suggested a physical position for meditation: "Try to put yourself in the presence of God and thus understand that He  with all the celestial court, is there within your soul. Then begin your prayer and meditation. In all this, try to close your eyes, and, if possible, hold your head upright and put your forehead in the palm of your hands."

As subjects for meditation, Padre Pio suggested such themes from the Bible as Jesus' passion, death, resurrection, and ascension. "Ask God," he insisted, "for the grace to make good the mental prayer you are about to undertake, so that you can derive from the fruit that God most desires. Finally, recommend to yourself the intercession of the Most Holy Virgin, as well as to all  the heavenly court, so that they may help you meditate well and keep every distraction away from you." he continued.

Padre Pio urged two periods of meditation daily, as well as two periods of self-examination: in the morning, "to prepare for battle," and in the evening, "to purify your soul from every earthly affection that might might have able to attach itself to you during the day." Each of these periods of reflection and recollection was to last at least a half hour.

Padre Pio even gave suggestions about eating. On sitting down "call to mind some pious thought, he urged. He suggested imagining sitting with Christ at the Last Supper, and making the effort to ensure that the supper by which we satisfy the body may be preparation for ... the Holy Eucharist."Never rise from the table," he warned, "without having given due thanks to the Lord. If we act in this way, we have no fear of the wretched sin of gluttony." While the Christian should not leave the table hungry, he should "never eat more than" he really needed." ...      George H. A.K.A. As Candidate Buttigieg: Progressive Christianity: The CINOP

"Not long after South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg entered the fray, he launched a personal attack on Vice President Pence for his views on gay marriage. Buttigieg who is gay and married to a man, said that his homosexual style was perfectly compatible with his Christian faith. 

He said that marrying a gay man made him " a better man," and moved him "closer to God." Buttigieg went on to challenge the vice president with these words: "If you've got a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me. Your quarrel, sir, is with my creator."

Pence, who is a committed evangelical believer and openly advocated for pro-life causes and religious liberty, responded: "I think Pete's quarrel is with the First Amendment. All of us in this country have the right to our religious beliefs. I'm a Bible-believing Christian.

What Mayor Buttigieg and many others are seeking to do is simply redefine Christianity in their terms - (This reminds me of the CINOP (Catholic-in-name-only politician), and Progressive Catholicism which is a fraud. ghk) "progressive Christianity," as it has been called. The core values of this movement have little or nothing to do with sin, the power of the cross, Heaven or hell, the deity of Christ or the authority of God's Word.

Rather, their focus is on the universal love of God, social justice, and the approval of various styles with no regard for adherence to Biblical truth. So called progressive Christianity is simply another term that allows each person to "do what is right in their own eyes." (see Judges 21-25) 

In a facebook post following Buttigieg's widely publicized remarks, I (Franklin Graham) said as follows

"Mayor Buttigieg says he is a gay Christian. As a Christian I believe what the Bible says. God's word defines homosexuality as sin, something to be repentant of, not something to be flaunted, praised or politicized. The Bible defines marriage as between a man and a woman - not two men, not two women.

"The core of the Christian faith is believing and following Jesus Christ, who God sent to be the Saviour of the world - to save us from sin, to save us from hell, to save us from eternal damnation."

Using the term like Progressive Christianity and the Christian left may sound appealing to some, but God's laws and standards do not change. He says, "For I am the Lord, I do not change." (Malachi 3:6) I believe what the Bible says is truth.

Progressive Christianity is simply another name for theological liberalism and its accompanying permissive lifestyle that ignores God's call to holiness and obedience. There is really nothing progressive about it, other than increasing slide into sin and disobedience.

We can never allow someone to seek to redefine the orthodox Christian faith according to their own faulty terms. It is a "different gospel - which is really no gospel at all" (Galatians 1:6-7)...

    "He (Pope Francis) called for the phasing out of fossil fuels.... He wrote, "The Christian tradition has never recognized the right to private property as absolute or inviolable, and has stressed the social purpose of all forms of private property. Saint John Paul II forcefully reaffirmed this teaching, stating that God gave the earth to the whole human race for sustenance of all its members, without excluding or favoring anyone.

 

    In fact, Pope John Paul II had defended the free market, saying that Christ had not condemned a simple possession of material goods. Rather, his most severe words are directed against those who use their riches in an egoistic manner, without preoccupying with their neighbors who lack the indispensable."

    No such balance appeared in Laudato Si'. Instead, perfectly reasonable human activity, such as turning on air-conditioning, is cast as overconsumption: ...  Many found this a curious example of over consumption, given that the lives of millions of people have been saved or improved by air-conditioning... Socialists found his searing critique of Western capitalism exhilarating....

 

    No serious economist today give any credence to such warmed over Marxist claim. Pope Francis asserts that a free market, because it allows for income inequalities,  is not only a threat to the environment but also a cause of war- a link that even the left-leaning Economist finds "ultra-radical."...

    Pope Francis has made it clear that he agrees with Cardinal Peter Turkeson's support for world government.... In August 2016, the Vatican announced that Turkeson would head up a new Vatican department dedicated to promoting environmentalism an other politically liberal projects described described as "Integral Human Development."...

 

    In the Philippines, thousands of Catholics, led by their bishops, marched against fossil fuels. The 2016 event was organized by Greenpeace and other radical groups....The Vatican is now looking at making classes in "ecology" a requirement for all seminarians....  In September 2016, Pope Francis stunned Catholics by suggesting that environmentalism be added to the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.... After Donald Trump won the U.S. presidency, Cardinal Joseph Tobin called on U.S. bishops to increase their climate change activism. "given the possibility that the administration isn't going to be very interested in the question that Pope Francis is interested in."

 

DON'T BREED "LIKE RABBITS"

    Environmentalists often chafed under the rhetoric of Pope John Paul II who described the left's "culture of death," and Pope Benedict XVI who described its politics as a "dictatorship of relativism."... In early 2015, for example, Francis appalled conservatives Catholics with large families, and delighted environmentalists who called for small families, when he told the press that Catholics shouldn't be like rabbits....

The British Catholic organization "Voice of the Family"...noted at the time when "contraception and environmentalism so often go hand-in-hand" Pope Francis declined to reaffirm "Church teaching on the primacy of procreation.".... He also belittles the Church for its past teaching on marriage: " we often present marriage in such a way that its unitive meaning, its call to grow in love and its ideal of mutual assistance are overshadowed by an almost exclusive insistence on the duty of procreation."....

 

THE DARWINIST POPE

The first radical green pope is also impressing the environmental left with his support for Darwinism. Leading Darwinists have called mainstream evolutionary theory - which holds that species form as a result of random mutations and natural selection - the "greatest engine of atheism ever invented." in sofar it provides a creation story without a creator. Understanding the atheistic implications of the theory, the Church has long viewed Darwinism with suspicion. But Pope Francis doesn't. In the contemporary class between Darwinism and "intelligent design," Pope Francis sides with the Darwinists...."

    "Bernie Sanders campaigned for the Socialist Workers Party in the 1980 and 1984 presidential campaigns and was investigated by the FBI for his ties to the Marxist group.

 

Sanders has always played down the extent of his involvement with the party, which included radicals who praised the Soviet Union and Cuban communists, and has denied ever being a member. Asked in 1988 about his role as a SWP elector in the 1980, he said: "I was asked to put my name on the ballot and I did, that's true." In fact, his ties to the party are deep and enduring.

The 2020 Democratic presidential primary candidate and United States senator from Vermont, now 77, often scoffs at comparisons between his brand of self-described "democratic socialism" and communism. In recent years he said he is merely interested in having the United States look more like Sweden, a social democracy with a broad welfare state but a well-functioning private sector.

 

But his personal files from his time as mayor of Burlington, from 1881 to 1989, archived at the University of Vermont, show that he supported and campaigned for the communist SWP and maintained a close relationship with its senior members. While Democrats campaigned for President Jimmy Carter in 1980 and Walter Mondale in 1984, Sanders spent the Reagan era supporting fringe Marxists with no chance of reaching the White House.

 

In 1980, Sanders "proudly endorsed and supported" Andrew Pulley, the party's presidential candidate, who once said that American soldiers should "take up their guns and shoot their officers."  Sanders was one of three electors for Pulley on the Vermont ballot, stating in a press release: "I fully support the SWP's continued defense of the Cuban revolution."

 

For years later, he backed and campaigned for the SWP presidential nominee Mel Mason, a former Black Panther, saying it was important for there for there to be "fundamental alternatives to capitalist ideology," During the campaign, Mason praised the Russian and Chinese revolutions ..... "I think Bernie was pretty in-the-camp with us and other socialist organizations," Mason told the "Washington Examiner" in an interview. "We talked regularly and he also said that if I ever made it to Burlington, he was going to give me the key to the city."

 

But Mason, 75, now a psychotherapist and former NAACP official living in California, indicated that after the 1980, he & Sanders had drifted apart, & Sanders began touting insufficiently radical policies...

In 1979, members of SWP's leadership circulated a document that called for "the destruction of the bourgeois state apparatus," arguing such an act "is a necessary prerequisite for the conquest of state power by the working class." Archives of the SWP's official paper., the Militant, demonstrate a devotion to what its writers believe was the "true" purpose of the Russian Revolution, before it was supposedly corrupted by Joseph Stalin....

 

A flier in Sanders' archives shows that he was a featured speaker at the 1982 SWP "Campaign Kick-Off-Rally" in Boston for the party's candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, and Congress.

"At a time when the Democratic and Republican parties are intellectually and spiritually bankrupt, it is imperative for radical voices to be heard which offer fundamental alternatives to capitalist ideology. I wish Mel Mason good luck on his campaign," Sanders wrote in a letter to the Militant in January 1984...

 

Sanders also kept dozens of socialist publications in his personal files, such as the "Socialist Republic, a defunct paper published by the Marxist Industrial Union Party. Articles in the Socialist Republic touted "The importance of Socialist Propaganda" and "social ownership of all resources and industries." Other ... papers celebrated Marxist revolutionaries in Latin America....

 

By 1988, Sander had his eyes on federal office. While he never shed his socialist label, he endorsed Jesse Jackson in that year's Democratic presidential primary, Sanders was first elected an an independent in 1990.

CHAPTER 10 - SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO 127- 135

"Padre Pio remained at St. Anne's Foggia, for about six months. During that time, he was constantly ill and spent most of his time in bed. Although he could scarcely retain any of the food he ate. He should no signs of starvation. What his colleagues at St. Anne's noticed most. however, were the horrible noises that come from his room early every evening....

"But, Most Reverend Father, Pio humbly responded, "Your Paternity knows very well that I am not to blame and that I have nothing at all to do with what is happening ... It is God's will that is permitting this!"

Incredibly, Benedetto ordered Pio to, Tell the Lord that I  as superior, for the greater good of this community, want to be contented ... is having these noises to stop!"

Pio obediently, relayed Benedetto's command to the Lord, and the noises stopped....

"San Giovanni Rotondo - a town of twelve thousand  that derives its name from an ancient circular temple dedicated in Roman times to the go Janus, but, with the coming of Christianity, consecrated to St. John the Baptist --lies have been adopted about eighteen hundred feet above see level in the Gargano Mountains on the spur of the Italian  boot, within sight, on clear days, of the Adriatic Sea....

The town in 1916, circular in shape, was a "conglomerate of old houses," one on top of another, on either side of narrow, curving lanes.Most of the land in the town was in the hands of a few wealthy landowners.... Poverty, illiteracy, and disease were rampant. Lives were vitiated and shortened by malaria, pernicious anemia, and tuberculosis. Most people subsisted on a diet of cereal, vegetables, and potatoes. Spaghetti was a feast-day meal and meat was a luxury, eaten only on Sundays....

When the Italian government shut down the religious orders, the friary was converted into a nursing home. It was not until 1909 that it was reopened, ... There was a long-standing feud between the friars on the hill, who had a reputation of asceticism  and spirituality, and the secular clergy who ran the three parish churches in town. These men, headed by Archpriest Giuppe Prencipe, were often accused of siding with the great landowners against the poor, whose material plight they allegedly ignored....

Padre Pio's chief duties during his early years at our Lady of Grace were teaching in the minor seminary, or "seraphic college," and serving as spiritual director to twenty or so students. He became a great favorite of the boys, who seemed to be unaware of his mystical interior life. To them he was simply a kind teacher and an exceptionally warm human being. Padre ... Elia a Pianisi studied under Padre Pio from 1916 o 1918. He admitted in an interview in July 1971 that Padre Pio was not the world's greatest teacher: He had a superficial way of teaching. He taught history and grammar, but he knew little of the former and non of the latter. His lectures were never more that twenty minutes long, and they were unprepared. He was not strict, not even when he administered examinations. He let the kids do pretty much of what they wanted.

     While calling for the abolition of the family, she refers to motherhood's "gestational labor." Assembly Bill 493 is set for a hearing this coming Wednesday, June 12th and can be voted on as early as 9 A.M. 

The month of June is deemed "Pride Month" by all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individual. It is during this month that they organize and attempt to exert their influence in the halls of our State Capitol and pressure legislators to vote for legislation they are pushing. AB 493 is one of those bills.

 

Please remember that AB 493 amounts to the promotion of the homosexual, bisexual and transgender lifestyles by all public school teachers in grades 7 to 12 and by all charter schools. What is in AB 493?

 

Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, AB 493 would force public and charter schools to conduct sensitivity training to its certified personnel and teachers in grades 7 to 12 in "in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ)" students. Schools would also be required to provide "community resources" positively affirming and advocating these lifestyles to youth. ....

    The axis of evil is not a figure of speech. This is for real when I refer to the two persons above. Think of St. John Paul II and his "Gospel of Life." What we have today is TRULY EVIL. PROVE IT!  There exists in the U.S.A. a "Culture of Death Party." (C.D. Party). The Leftist control the once great Democratic Party.This does not apply to the 23% of Democratic registered voters who are pro-life.

 

    The C.D. Party needs a So-Called-Catholic to run for President in order to win in November in 2020. They were successful twice with Obama as President and Joe Biden as Vice-President. Why not try it again? It's the only way the culture of death can promote their agenda and defeat President Trump.

 

    The problem is the C.D. Party promotes the absolute right of a woman to abort her child even to the point of infanticide. This right is not in our "Constitution." Irregardless, the culture of death mindset wants to promote this woman's abortion right world-wide with our tax money. How many of the 23% of Democratic registered pro-life voters know this? Furthermore, let's study the next evil headline which is not based on natural law, science and common sense.

The Catholic bishops have a duty to inform who these politicians are in their diocese and that they be counseled and not receive communion. Similar to what Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois has done in another matter.)

 

"The so-called Equality Act would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include "sex" "sexual orientation. "and "gender identity" among the recognized "non-discrimination" categories in "public accommodations," "Gender identity" would be expanded to include additional establishments like online retailers, health care services, recreation, and others. Also, it would compel businesses employing 15 or more persons to recognize their asserted "gender identity" as well as barring employers from "discriminating" based on "sexual orientation" or "gender identity," while also requiring that so-called transgender persons have access to opposite-sex locker rooms, dressing rooms, and restrooms."....                                                                                                              

Furthermore, Biden would promote Abortion and the "Equality Act" world wide with our taxpayer monies! Are these American Values?

"It's not easy to interpret the recent European Union election. Mainstream liberal and conservative parties lost considerable ground while "populists" and, in some countries, Greens showed strong gains. But the raw numbers call for careful pursuing.

Pope Francis was clearly upset by the results. On Sunday, he released a message.... sharply criticizing anti-immigrant sentiment in Europe, claiming that it reflects fear of racism, as well as failures in Christian charity and humanitarian humanitarian engagement. [As a legal immigrant in the U.S.A. in 1958, I beg to disagree.]...

The results actually reflect not only immigration questions, but other factors people in many nations are vaguely feeling: particularly alienation from "democratic" institutions, both national and international, which seem more to reflect the values and concern of elites and less those of ordinary people.....

"Elite opinion assumes there must be something sinister, manipulative, quasi-fascist in the opposition to that orthodoxy. But this would be difficult to prove, since the phenomenon has arisen in quite different contexts worldwide, and now even on the most secularized and bureaucratized continent.

There may be dangers down the line from current nationalist sentiments, to be sure- not least resurgent anti-Antisemitism. But for now, the explanation for the success of these emerging political currents is that they attract voters, from various social sectors....

"Pope Francis was probably most disappointed with the Italian results. The insurgent Lega of Matteo Salvini crushed all other parties with more than a third of the overall vote. The Lega's coalition partner, Cinque Stelle, took 17 percent, and former Prime Minister Berlusconi's Forza Italia 9 percent, 60 percent overall. In the United Kingdom, the Brexit Party - formed only six weeks ago - took a third of the vote, about twice as many as the next party. Traditional parties - Labor and Conservatives - experienced a sharp downturn.

Two fundamental views are now in conflict in many societies. In essence. 1.) Either, human beings are created and, therefore, free but dependent on acknowledging God and nature if they wish to flourish and find happiness. 2.) Or, human beings are random products of a meaningless, material universe, and such happiness as we shall find we have to create for ourselves (even if strict materialism renders human freedom and incoherent idea.)...

Charles Peguy warned a century ago about our age: "this is the world of those without a mystique .. Let there be no mistake, and no one rejoice in it, on either side. The de-republicanization of France is essentially the same movement as the de-christianization of France .... It is one and same movement which makes people no longer believe in the Republic and no longer believe in God, no longer want to lead a republican life and no longer want to lead a Christian life. One and the same sterility withers the city and Christendom. Today, you don't to be a genius or prophet like Peguy to see that the older religious and civic virtues were interconnected - and now that they are separated, both are threatened.
