1.  (By coincidence in time, I mailed a check of $15.00 to Tea Party Express, P.O. Box 96599, Washington, D.C. 20090, on Wednesday, May 27. 2020. I sent some literature to Sal Russo, Chief Strategist Tea Party Express. Hope he can help us in California. I recall as a Tea Party activist protesting in Seal Beach and La Habra years ago.)#

2. I took some notes early this morning. (12:08-12:25 A.M.) "Under no circumstances does one pass out any informed literature in one's own church area. It's at a nearby church where they do not know you...[ Check #1 above in what I wrote here.#] ...                                                                                                                         

 I recall sadly what the Main Stream (New York Times) Rag Media reported on the Tea Party in general.... now check the Knights of Columbus Council 8599 monthly bulletin for April... the pro-life page was Excellent!  I did not telephone Ray Richmond but I sent him a short note and a copy "U.S. Bishops' Warnings on Equality Act. HR 5 # 1.[ on the blog, Thurs. Sept. 26/19) to be distributed.                                                                       

That letter, April 12th never got to him. [ Letter was returned to me and I opened it up a few days ago.][ I telephoned.]  He moved from Buena Park to Cypress, and around the corner from St. Ireneaus.] ... The problem is that Ray is 91 and my birthday will on Dec. 18th for 90. Happy to be alive.. .The good news we are going to get something started sooner than later."

Message from the Padre Pio Book: "...Carrigan felt "the rough scales of the blood crystals" and experienced a pleasant aroma, which he thought must have been associated with some sort of medication. After that Padre Pio greeted each of the soldiers and allowed all of them to kiss his hand. (the normal manner of greeting an Italian priest).

Carrigan was so moved by the experience that more than thirty years later he could say, "Since I met Padre Pio ... I can truthfully say I have had no doubts .. regarding Christ's being .. the Savior of the world.

...Thus, for the next year and a half, Carrigan brought many soldiers to see Padre Pio... According to Carrigan, Padre Pio seemed to know exactly one English word: "Okay."... Despite the language barrier, Carrigan knew personally of hundreds of men who received "reconfirmation of their faith" through their encounters with Padre Pio. Others underwent outright conversions...

Padre Pio, according to Carrigan, was not the stereotype of a mystic but rather the sort of man "you would have gone fishing with." Carrigan saw no evidence whatsoever of mystical charisms. He made his confession to Padre Pio and found it "As normal as apple pie." However, he noted that although Padre Pio seemed to speak little English, he nonetheless seemed to understand the Americans when they spoke to him.

Padre Pio told the Red Cross official, "I need very little of the world's goods: a cover for my body, enough food  to survive, and a little rest, and that's enough." Carrigan saw for himself that Padre's physical needs were indeed minimal. At the midday meal Pio never ate a complete serving of food. In the evening, in his room, he sipped wine and fruit juice (he especially loved pineapple juice), but took no solid food. Sleeping across from his room, Carrigan observed that Padre Pio seldom seemed to remain in bed longer than four hours a night...

Avignon's reactions to Padre Pio's Mass were much the same as Carrigan's: The Mass lasted almost two hours. It was a Mass that I could not describe. It was so beautiful. The room was filled with a perfume that came Padre Pio's wounds... As I knelt next to the altar I could clearly see the suffering Padre Pio was going through from the pain in his wounds.

His feet and hands would jerk as if great pain was shooting through his body. He made painful expressions all through the Mass, Never noticing anyone in the church. I had the sense that he was physically here but spiritually ... with Christ at the foot of the cross. At times he wept with tears running down his face, as if he were watching Christ being nailed to the cross. He was living the Passion of Our Lord. When he raised his hands I could clearly see the painful-looking wounds on his hands ... The only words that came forth from my mouth as I knelt watching a living Saint celebrate the Holy Mass were, 'My Lord and My God!" ....  George H. Kubeck

1. Having studied the mindset of  the [CINOP] Catholic-in-name-only politician for decades, may I share with you several conclusions in this letter. What  angers me is the CINOP'S ability to dupe millions of Catholic voters in voting for them? These voters think of themselves as informed and believe honestly that they are voting for a pro-life politician?                                                                                                       The CINOP has the tremendous help of the mainstream (New York Times) media. The media just loves the phony CINOP. The U.S. Catholic vote over the years has made us the most misinformed duped religious voter in America. We voted in Barbara Boxer for Senator and almost elected John Kerry for President were it not for the Cuban vote in Florida.

2. MAY I SHARE WITH YOU SEVERAL EXCERPTS FROM "PRIESTS FOR LIFE*" MAY 2020 VOL. 3  No. 3

"Hillary Clinton during a speech in 2015 stated that "deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed." ++ "Cinop Robert "Beto" O'Rourke wants to strip tax exemptions from churches and other organizations that oppose same-sex marriage. ++ California Attorney CINOP Xavier Bacerra has instituted a ban that prohibits state-funded travel to states he feels do not sufficiently protect LBGTQ rights. Texas, included on the list because it does protect freedom of religion, has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the ban.

4. *Simply put, the [Cinop] Democrats do not want people of faith in the public square. They removed

the single reference to God in their 2012 platform. .... The current Democrat platform is openly hostile to religion declaring:

  
  "Those most loudly claiming that morals, values and patriotism must be  defined by their particular religious views have used those religious views, with misplaced claim of 'religious liberty' to justify public policy that has threatened the civil rights and liberties of many Americans, including but not limited to the LGBT community, women, and ethnic and religious/nonreligious minorities..."

5. We had a chance to pass a Marriage Amendment during the George Bush Presidency. But the leadership wasn't there from the U.S.A.Catholic Bishops. These bishops had to cope with the likes of the CINO Politicians, the legacy of Cardinal Bernardin, the wolf in sheep's clothing Saul Alinsky, Cardinal Mahoney, and the Jesuit Order etc. A study of what occurred in Canada years before would be enlightening. The U.S. Catholic Church Bishops saw what occurred in Canada and did nothing about to prepare ourselves to stop same-sex marriage happening here.

6. "IT IS MY BELIEF THAT IF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY DID WHAT THE CINO POLITICIANS DID IN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN EXCOMMUNICATED FROM THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. SO WE HAVE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM OF INTEGRITY, RELIGIOUS AND POLITICAL. RECALL THE DEMO SLOGAN "BUY THE UNION LABEL" THE CINOP BETRAYED THE UNION LABEL OF "THE GOSPEL OF LIFE" AND "THE CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH."

   THE CINOP IS A FRAUD WITHIN THE AMERICAN POLITICAL ARENA WITH BLOOD ON HIS HANDS.

7. Cinop Governor Newsom made sure the opening of the Catholic Churches in Orange County came after Pentecost on May 31st, and after the Most Holy Trinity on June 7, 2020. Let them open up in Orange County, California on Corpus Christie, Sunday,June 14th with a limited capacity of 20% about 200 people. Maybe we can change this negative in a positive since only about 20% of Catholics today truly believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Pray for 100%, for that is what it means being Catholic.

    "Terrible as the war was, it was a means of opening up Padre Pio's ministry to the world. Up to now his fame had been largely confined to Italy. Now, as a result of visits by British an American soldiers, he would come to be known and revered throughout the world.

    The visits by Allied servicemen and servicewomen began almost immediately after the Eight Army secured Gargano peninsula in 1943. By Christmas Eve of 1943, Padre Augustino was recording in his diary,"Every Sunday, American soldiers came to hear Padre Pio's Mass. All of them are amazed and contrite, even the Protestants.

    Perhaps the Padre's most renowned visitor was the songwriter Irving Berlin, who wrote and performed in a musical show which he staged for the troops in Europe. In 1943, while performing in Foggia, he went to San Giovanni Rotondo to visit his wife's cousin, Count John Telfener. The count persuaded Berlin to visit Padre Pio, The meeting between the priest and the songwriter seems to have consisted of a perfunctory exchange of pleasantries and the gift of the rosary for the Jewish songwriter's Catholic wife.

    But hundreds of ordinary soldiers made their way top San Giovanni to meet Padre Pio. Many Catholic men stationed in Cerignola, where Padre Paolina was the superior of the friary there. Paolina was fluent in English and French and befriended many of the servicemen who attended Mass in Cerignola, inviting some of them to visit San Giovanni Rotondo with him....

    One of the most frequent American visitors at San Giovanni was Bill Carrigan, who had taught psychology at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. until named to his position with the Red Cross at the time America and entered the war... Shortly after he arrived in Foggia, Carrigan began to hear reports from the soldiers about a man in the mountains who had the wounds of Christ. It happened that some American soldiers, while searching for eggs, had found themselves at San Giovanni Rotondo  where they had met their fellow countrywoman Maria Pyle, who offered them hospitality and regaled them with stories about Padre Pio...

    Carrigan, who was a devout Catholic, agreed to furnish transportation and on a cold winter's day with eight inches of snow on the ground (a rarity for the area), he and twenty soldiers made their way to S.G. Rotondo. Padre Pio was well into his Mass when the men entered the church. There was no heat, even though the Americans wore heavy overcoats, they were chilled to the bone.   But, as Carrigan later recounted, "it wasn't very long before I experience a physical warmth. Quickly I realized that [Padre Pio] was very unique."

    There was indeed something very unusual going on. Carrigan noticed a transformation in the celebrant during the consecration. He seemed to take on physical sufferings. Although he knew nothing at the time of Padre Pio's stigmata, noticed that the Capuchin leaned on the altar, first on one elbow and then the other, as if he were trying to relieve the pain in the feet.

    At the words of the Consecration, he seemed to have great difficulty speaking the words of the Consecration, he seemed to have great difficulty in speaking the words. "Hoc est enin corpus meum." {"This is my body'} Carrigan recalled that Pio shouted the words, hesitating and biting them off "as he were in physical pain." When he reached for the chalice, he jerked his hand back violently, "as if the pain were so great he could not grasp it." His facial muscles were twitching and tears were rolling down his cheeks. Occasionally, he jerked his head to one side or the other, as if he were suffering blows to the head and neck.

    After the Consecration, it seemed as if Padre Pio's suffering had subsided. The priest seemed exhausted and leaned forward as if in deep meditation. At this moment, Carrigan was convinced that Padre Pio was speaking directly to God. ...Through an interpreter, Padre Pio told Carrigan that he and his group were the first American military personnel that he had met during the war, and indicated that he was delighted to see them. After that the priest allowed the Red Cross director to kiss his ungloved hand...."

1.Begin: Both Greg Gutfeld * and Glenn Beck# can help us understand what is going on in America. We have a Cold Civil War among Americans going on. There are serious divisions in our thought processes. In the media section, it is the N.Y.T. the leader to redo and remake America in their image. (In the back of my mind, like in Canada, promoting abortion as an essential health care commodity. Also accepting infanticide as normal in America. On top of that using our tax money to promote and pay for your abortion not only in the U.S.A. but throughout the whole world.)

2. We have the freedom forces fighting the lock-down forces. The culture of death is on the side of the second one mentioned. Is the N.Y.T. believable? For three years, they promoted deliberately the hoax of the Russian-Trump collision. We have a corrupt and lying newspaper.

There is an excellent article in "The Wall Street Journal" Tuesday, May 19, 2020, "Why Does Reopening Polarize Us?  The Liberals are tied into political correctness, not common sense and the pursuit of the truth. Political correctness is how they make decisions. This is destructive for the whole country.

4. We have come now to a person and his business suitable to be destroyed. It may take time.

Hannah-Jones' explanation of the project to make 1619 America's Founding instead of 1776 or 1787, describes the event in these wonders: "In August 1619, just 12 years after the English settled Jamestown Va.... The Jamestown colonists 20 to 30 enslaved Africans from English pirates. The Pirates had stolen them from a Portuguese slave ship that had forcibly taken them from what is now the country of Angola.

Those men and women who came ashore on that August day were the beginning of American slavery. They were among the 12.5 million Africans who would be kidnapped from their homes and brought in chains across the Atlantic Ocean in the largest forced migration in human history until the Second World War. This description is a tissue of fiction beginning with the insinuation that the 12.5 million Africans were shipped to America in the Atlantic Slave Trade. The proper figure is 330,000 - bad enough - but a sign that American slavery even in the Western Hemisphere was significantly less than Hannah-Jones and her enablers would like it to be.

More strikingly, the statement that this was "the beginning of American slavery" is false on its face. It was a continuation of English - not American practice. And the 20 Africans brought to Virginia in 1619 were not slaves. As a distinguished African-American Princeton historian, Nell Painter, observed in a critique of the 1619 Project, the Africans brought to Virginia in 1619 were indentured servants, meaning that they would be free within a set number of years, usually five to seven. "There were other miraculous deliverances claimed. People asked Padre Pio whether town or dwelling would be spared the bombs that were plummeting down on most Italian cities. Sometimes he seemed to know. When a man from Genoa asked if his city would be spared, the Padre began to weep and groaned, "Genoa will be bombed. Oh, how they will bomb that poor city! So many homes, buildings, and churches will crumble! But be calm. Your house will not be touched." 

 

And so it happened. When, in June 1944, the Allies bombed Genoa to rubble, the only house left standing untouched with a huge area of charred ruin was that of the man to whom Padre Pio had prophesied. ...

 

Anguished people asked Padre Pio for news of loved ones missing in action or as a result of bombings. Most of the time Pio could give no satisfaction, but occasionally he seemed to have supernatural insight. For instance, a mother of a soldier asked about her son, who was missing in action. Padre Pio, who had prayed for the boy, told the mother, "He must be alive, for I cannot see him in the other world." Eventually, the son returned.

 

On another occasion, A Franciscan tertiary from Morcone named Giuseppina Gagliardi, inquiring about her missing soldier son, was told by Padre Pio, Poor son, he suffered so much! ... He suffers no longer. We must resign ourselves to the will of God." Later, through the Red Cross, Signora Gagliardi learned that her son Italo had indeed been killed.

 

When Alberto Cardone made trips to San Giovanni in May 1944, he asked Padre Pio about various relatives. He said, "It's a long time since we have heard from my father." He was in America, but Cardone never mentioned this to Padre Pio. Nevertheless he was told, "Oh, your father's in America. He is better than you or I. What are you worrying about? He's okay." ... Cardone reported that when he returned home, he found a letter from his uncle Francesco, saying he was a prisoner in England and was working as a cook....

 

The Forgione family was not spared the horrors of war. In January 1944, Allied bombers swooped down on the town of Chieti, near the Adriatic Sea. Pulled mortally wounded from the rubble was Padre Pio's scapegrace sister, Pellegrina. (He had evidently not seen in many years, Pellegrina had worked as a seamstress in Naples for quite a few years before moving to Chieti. Local tradition holds that she made one trip to San Giovanni and so scandalized and offended her brother Pio that he slapped her in the face.)

 

Pellegrina lingered for a month in the hospital. Just before she died on February 19, she asked for a priest, received the sacraments, and was reconciled with the faith against which she had for so many years rebelled. It is not known whether Padre Pio appeared to her in bi-location as he had as month earlier to his pious sister-in-law, Giuseppa Cardona, who was dying of natural causes in Pietrecina. It is not even known whether he learned of his sister's fate until some time after her demise. But his comment on her passing away was, "I have prayed. I have made offering. I have suffered."

Preface:

    The origin of "In Pursuit of the Truth."

Refer to the Preface of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger's book, "Co-Workers of the Truth," The title finally chosen for this compilation also conveys my reason for undertaking it. I believe that a work of this kind can, in its own way, contribute to the fulfillment of the promise implicit in the motto from the third epistle of St. John, verse 8, that I adopted from my coat of arms: "Co-Workers of the Truth".

    "Veritas" is also a motto of the Dominican Laity of which I am a member. The question arises, why would somebody be a Catholic-in-name-only politician or person? St. John Paul has given us "The Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Encyclical, "The Gospel of Life." Ignore these two documents.

1. What is normal? What is abnormal? To be a CINO politician within the American Catholic Church today is not normal. Not to talk about them is also not normal. I recall my motto in Montreal's once Loyola College, 1952 - "Justice is Truth in Action!" This could be a reason for my focus on Catholic-in-name-only politicians. Why waste your time on them? Who cares? Well I care about the effects of evil!

     Writing and publishing the truth on this blog is normal for me. There are more than 2,000 letters since the first day of May 14, 2007, titled, "The American Catholic Voter."

2.  Twenty years ago, I had a teach-in on pro-abortion politician Loretta Sanchez:

    I handed her a letter to her office in Garden Grove, dated May 4, 2001

    The letter reads, "It seems to me that the idea of a pro-abortion Catholic is about as ridiculous as Catholics for a free-choice or a pro-adultery Catholic sitting in the church pews. Could we talk or communicate on this subject? Please share the three enclosures with your pastor or bishop? I believe that the independent and informed Catholic prefers persuasion and dialogue on this subject rather than protests or teach-ins."

    Her personal comment to me and others at the teach-in is that a majority of Catholics are pro-abortion and one of her helpers said he was Catholic and pro-abortion. [Now that I think of it, maybe they were right.]

    I did similar letters to other pro-partial birth abortion Catholic California Congressional Delegation: Joe Baca, Xavier Becerra, Anna Eshoo, Grace Napolitano, Nancy Pelosi, Lucille Royball-Allard, Ellen Taucher, Mike Thompson and George Miller and Linda Sanchez.

Chapter 22 - 'The Lord Is Not Moved to Pity' p. 248 -250 ---- selected excerpts

"According to one of his spiritual sons, "At the beginning, Padre Pio seemed happy with Fascism. Then he changed his mind." First of all, he was repelled by the coercive tactics eventually adopted by Benito Mussolini to force his countrymen into joining the party.

 

Pio told an American."It reached the point that you couldn't get sugar, flour, or oil without a Fascist card. It was blackmail. Even the children's book were full of propaganda. What soured Padre Pio most against Mussolini was his alliance, in October 1936, with Germany. Pio feared and despised Hitler because of his "religion of blood" and because of his virulent hatred of Christianity.

 

To a priest friend Pio remarked, "Do you know what I would do with Hitler if I could get my hands on him? I would put him in a cage everywhere throughout the world so that Hitler would know what people were saying about him. As war engulfed Europe and much of he world in 1940, Padre Pio was very depressed. "Don't you remember, along about 1920 or 1921," he reminded Padre Agostino, "I predicted that the League of Nations wouldn't last? I told you. 'These nations are going to tear each other to pieces.' Well, look, it's happening.'

 

As German troops rampaged through Europe in 1940, with Mussolini at Hitler's coattails, many Italians - including some of the Capuchins - were optimistic that soon Italy would take a proud place in the new order that would be established in the world. For practical as well as theological reasons, Padre Pio vigorously disagreed. When Germany invaded Russia in 1941, Pio (along with many other people) was convinced that eventual defeat was a certainty for the Axis.

 

To confreres still sanguine about eventual victory, Padre Pio is said to have commented, "Don't you realize how big Russia is? Can a fly swallow an elephant? He insisted that the Lord would never allow a man as diabolical as Hitler to win. This was the subject of an argument he had with a Capuchin bishop who insisted that the Axis deserved to win and would. "No, we won't win!" Pio said authoritatively. "I don't see how we could possibly achieve victory when [Hitler] goes against the Pope and publicly blasphemes the Madonna!... Excellency, we won't win! And if we were to win, victory will be given us as a punishment!"

 

To an American official he commented, "To win the war would not mean that we won it, but that Germany won. Then we would fall under Nazi slavery, which is the most diabolical slavery that one can imagine!" He seemed to fear Nazism more than Communism... By 1943 the tide was turning. A desperate Mussolini sent messengers to Padre Pio, requesting his prayers for Italy. "So, now, you come to me, after you have destroyed Italy!" Pio fumed. "You can tell Mussolini that nothing can save Italy now!Nothing! Tell him, "You have destroyed her!"...

 

As for San Giovanni Rotondo, Padre Pio predicted that it would be untouched by the fighting. "The Lord, through His infinite goodness, will spare this blessed place." ... The American officer in charge at Bari heard they had a munitions dump in or near San Giovanni Rotondo. So he called his officers .. and said he would lead the first plane. He was a Protestant. When he neared San Giovanni Rotondo he saw high in the air, ahead of the plane, a monk with arms outstretched as if to ward off his coming. He ordered the formation to return to base and drop the bombs in an open field.... he related to what he had seen. 

 

An Italian officer present told him there was a monk there whom the people consider a saint. Probably he was the one the General saw in the heavens. The general determined to find out. He and another came here and together they went to the sacristy ... to watch as the fathers came down for Mass. He immediately recognized Padre Pio as the one he had seen in the air in front of his plane....

 

There are different versions. The Capuchin Fernando of Riese Pio X insists of occurrences of many sightings, "confirmed by a number of pilots in the Anglo-American air forces, of various nationalities (English, American, Polish, Palestinian) and of various religions (Catholic, Orthodox, Muslim, Protestant, Jewish)."....

1. Honest journalism is dead in the New York Times! Why does that truth stick in my mind? Is it because integrity has been removed from the schools of journalism? As a new teacher, I recall joining the NEA, CTA, and The Westminster Teacher Association in 1962. I was proud of my membership for five years. These were professional teacher organizations. They had integrity. For decades prior to the 1960's, they fought the unionization process in their monthly magazines.

 

2. Then we got competition from the New York Teacher Unions. Almost overnight the National Education Association and California Teacher Association changed to become a union. They left me and other independent minded teachers who did not believe in unionism. Unionism was never intended for public or private school teachers. We fought unionism but did not prevail. We never got any help from the main-stream media. "That cut to the throat." Later Governor (Catholic-in-name-only), the fake notorious Jerry Brown signed the "The Rodda Act of 1975." It legalized teacher unionism and in California it became a cow to be milked yearly by one of the two political parties in California. The required three-membership dues are over a thousand dollars yearly.

 

3. The Rodda law became a sick virus particularly in the colleges and universities. It made it possible for ideologues, like Putin's Marxists/socialist/communist followers to indoctrinate the educational system. They can't be called teachers or professors. Today, the coronavirus  makes it possible for these colleges students to study and be educated by their parents in a home environment.

In other words, in its very conception, the 1619 Project is an historically illiterate lie., whose self-evident purpose is to erase the actual foundation of the nation born in 1776 and memorialized by Lincoln as a "new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

 

The creator of the 1619 Project, an African American Times staff writer, and pro-Castro leftist, has written an introduction to the project called "America Wasn't a Democracy Until Black Americans Made it One." The title reveals the thinly racist attitudes of both the author and her project by suggesting that Black wrote the Declaration of Independence, created the Abolitionist Movement, drafted and financed the Union Army, sacrificed 350,000 lives to win the Civil War, wrote the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, created and financed the NAACP and other civil rights organizations without major support from whites and passed the Civil Rights.Of course these are absurdities, and the only reason they are even entertained is because anti-white racism is so fashionable among the nation's cultural moment in history....  to be continued

Chapter 21 - My Earthly Work Has Now Begun   p. 237-247 - Excerpts

    "Padre Pio was forty-seven years old on May 25, 1934. He seemed to have aged perceptibly during his "incarceration." His beard was grayer, although his thinning hair retained its auburn hue. Moreover he was growing stouter.

    The expansion of Pio's waistline was by no means a result of overeating. On the contrary, as he grew older, he tended to eat less. In the mid-1930s Padre Agostino observed that Pio's intake was "not sufficient for anyone who works as he does." By 1945 his food intake was measured at only three and a half ounces a day, and yet he weighed more than one hundred seventy pounds....

 

    Spiritually, Pio continued to worry about pleasing God. Agostino noted, "The trial continued fixed in his soul without letup. Although it does not drive him to absolute despair, it always keeps him uncertain of whether or not he is doing good or evil and whether he is pleasing or displeasing God."

    At times, Pio even dreaded the thought of death because he doubted whether he was in the stare of grace! He confided to Agostino in October 1934: "I'm thankful to God that he doesn't give me the time to think about this matter for long, since he has so many other things to think about. But if I did think about this terrible trial, I would surely lose my mind!" He did not understand why God permitted this trial when he was convinced that without it he could accomplish more good. Agostino felt it was a grace from God that Padre Pio always seemed to be unaware of any holiness on his part or of the great good that he accomplished.

 

    It was during this period that Padre Pio composed his meditation on "Thy Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane"...  A priest who heard him preach described him as "an ordinary preacher." Few of his homilies have survived. Padre Pio was, in a way of speaking, entering the summertime of his ministry. With no interference from the Holy Office and with the goodwill of Padre Vigilio, he was now able to work virtually unmolested....

    Father Donatus had heard a great deal about Padre Pio and was eager to meet him, and so, on August 7, 1938, in the company of Padre Agostino, he paid a call on Padre Pio. Donatus left a written account of his impressions. Saying that he wanted to make a close study of everything concerning the stigmatic and his environment, Donatus writes,

 

    " I examined the stigmata and spoke frequently with Padre Pio on every kind of question: in this first encounter I wanted to enquire concerning ... the natural humanity of the priest. As he perhaps neurotic? hysterical? docile? violent? a dreamer? stupid? sad? fanatical?After repeated inquiries, I was able to conclude that in every sense Padre Pio was absolutely sound spiritually, ... I can and must affirm that in all the contacts I had with Padre Pio, I was deeply moved by his practice of virtue, his serenity, his humility ... his true affection towards his superiors ... his perfect obedience to all ecclesiastical authorities, his sane piety, and his modesty."...

 

    "More and more people came to San Giovanni Rotondo each from all parts of Italy. Move and more pilgrimages to Padre Pio were organized, which did not please the padre. "I disapprove of people making pilgrimages to me," he complained to Agostino. "I wish they would discourage people from coming in groups like this. It keeps me from hearing confessions as I ought." ... Even though he was held in such esteem by growing numbers of people, there was lack of difficulties. The bane of his ministry now seemed to be the hordes of fanatical women... facetiously called Le Pie Donne (The Holy Women.)...

 

    Another South American devotee of Padre Pio was Monsignor Fernando Damiani, vicar-general of Salto, Uruguay. We will recall that Pope Benedict XV had urged Damiani to make Padre Pio known in his country and that it had been Damiani who brought the glove of Padre Pio to Sister Teresa Salvadores when she was ill in 1921...

      It was at 7:00 P.M. on the evening of January 14 that Padre Pio told Dr. Sanvico that the hospital would be called La Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, or "The House for the Relief of Suffering." ... The Work, however, quickly came to a standstill because of the world war, which, having broken out in eastern Europe in September, engulfed nearly the whole of Europe in the spring of 1940. 1. The cornerstone of journalism and the teaching profession is based on integrity [honesty and truthfulness]  It is an ideal which both professions should strive for. We are looking at these two professions from the public domain. Is this an impossible ideal for the two professions? Do they have to be politicized?

 

2.For example, I am a retired public school teacher. Twenty three years in the Westminster School District. [1963-1986]. When teaching, I did everything possible in the class not to politicize the teaching. I recall during the Presidential Campaign between Johnson and Goldwater in 1962. The sixth graders wanted me to tell them which candidate I was for. I kind of knew who their parents were voting for. [Goldwater] There was no good reason to tell them. A professional teacher in any classroom has no reason to tell his students, the candidate he is promoting. A politicized teacher or journalist will do that. Integrity is most important for teachers and journalists. It's what the public deserves and wants.

 

3. During the Goldwater-Johnson campaign, it was obvious that the N.Y. Times and associates were rooting for Johnson.  It was obvious to me  that N.Y.Times journalists felt in their reporting that they know what is best for America. Who appointed them to tell us Americans what is best for America? All we want from them is accurate and fair news.  N.Y.Times has an agenda and the key one, "They are the Fourth Estate In America" and they will decide in any presidential election who is going to win and who is going to lose. Their news will be slanted and censored, and to the disadvantage of all Americans. Why should we put up with this kind of political propaganda? All of this promotes a secular political religion.

 

    And who are the Americans who are "cut to the heart"  politically. They are mainly those of us who have a Christian background persuasion, evangelicals and Catholics who are pro-life, pro-marriage, and pro-family. Add to that are traditional Americans and lovers of the Constitution and the thoughts of our Founding Fathers. What the N.Y.Times and their associates have done is to promote only Catholic-in-name-only politicians, [ Biden, Pelosi, Newsom, Beccera, Cuomo etc.] They need the Catholic vote to win in 2020. Without that vote, they will definitely lose in November.]  We are for the N.Y.Times second class citizens. For example, we had our yearly  Washington's March for Life unreported for decades by the N.Y.Times and the mainstream media...   to be continued

Preface: God must have had a reason for the existence of St. Padre Pio in today's coronavirus.

 

"Sometimes all celestial comforts seemed withdrawn. When Agostino visited him in November 1931, Pio confided that "Jesus is silent," leading his friend to believe that now "those visions that once brought so much comfort to his spirit have vanished. "Despite being "a bit depressed," Pio insisted that he was ready to submit to the will of the God....

 

Although he could not see them or write to them, some of Padre Pio's spiritual children claimed that he visited them buy bi-location. Padre Agostino was told of such an experience by Sister Benjamina of Florence, who told him that one morning, after she had received Communion, Padre Pio appeared to her, comforted her, and blessed her. With this in mind, Agostino asked Pio, "Do you often make little trips - like, to Florence?" When Pio ignored him, Agostino added, " A nun told me this. Is it true?" "Yes" answered Pio, and that was the end of the matter..

 

In the meantime, Brunatto and Morcaldi were organizing a letter-writing campaign, deluging officials at the Vatican with pleas for the end of Padre Pio's segregation. Moraldi sent to various prominent churchmen The Mysteries of Science in the Light of Faith, a scholarly manuscript prepared by Dr. Giorgio Festa (who had examined Pio's wounds) but which had remained unpublished because of the prohibition by the Holy Office of all publications on Padre Pio.

 

Cardinal Gasparri, recently retired from his post as the Vatican's secretary of state, was impressed and conferred with Dr. Festa. After their conversation, Gasparri used his influence on the Holy Office, which agreed not to put the book on the index. And so Festa's book was published. It was read by several cardinals, who were favorably impressed. ...

 

The loss of the opportunity to minister to the teenaged boys who made up the student body depressed Padre Pio. Moraldi commented bitterly that the Holy Office considered Pio " a noxious Socrates, capable of perverting the fragile lives of boys not yet tempered to monastic discipline. Others vented their wrap, not only on the Holy Office, but on some Padre Pio's disciples, Del Fante and Giovannini roundly reviled...

 

Meanwhile, Morcaldi, through conservative means, was effecting a breakthrough. Gasparri's replacement as papal secretary of state was Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli, who had been apostolic nuncio to Germany... He was in fact a man of great spirituality who had been a close acquaintance of the great Bavarian mystic and stigmatic. Theresa Neumann. In October 193, Morcaldi wrote to Pacelli about "the seraphic little friar," the fame of whose "heroic virtue ... has burst the confines of the little town hidden in the mountains" where he lived. Morcaldi described how "a humanity laden with sufferings ,... bewildered and perplexed," saw in Padre Pio a "ray of light to guide it."

 

Pacelli, it seems, persuaded Pope Pius XI to send a personal representative to San Giovanni Rotondo to observe Padre Pio. It will be recalled that Pope Benedict XV, too, had sent personal representative to interview and examine him. Pius XI, as we have seen had relied solely upon the Holy Office and the advice of personal friends for an assessment of the controversial friar. Even the  apostolic visitations of 1917 and 1928 had not been to investigate Padre Pio. Now, on  March 14, 1933, Pope Pius finally decided to dispatch representatives to visit Padre Pio and report back to him in person. The choice fell upon Monsignor Luca Pasetto and Monsignor Felice Bevilacqua, who had headed the visitation of 1927.

Finally, on July 14, 1933, Pope Pius reversed his ban. An order came from the Holy Office that day directing that Padre Pio be allowed once more to celebrate Mass in public and that he be allowed to hear confessions of the religious within the enclosure.... Even so ... Padre Pio himself, according to Agostino, was "very much consoled" and gave thanks to God rejoicing... As of March 25, 1934, Padre Pio was allowed to hear the confessions of men, and as of May 12 of the same year, he was permitted to hear those of women. A political pamphleteer and campaigner before the war, he became equally effective during the Revolution, having served first as an artilleryman, then aide-de-camp to General Washington, and finally a Lieutenant Colonel leading his regiment in a winning charge on the British fortifications at York town.

 

    AFTER THE WAR HE ACTED AS COLLECTOR OF FINANCE IN NEW YORK FOR THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS, AND, AS HE WROTE TO JAY, SERVED "A SHORT APPRENTICE IN CONGRESS." IT MUST HAVE SEEMED PERPLEXING, THEN, TO MOST NEW YORK THAT HAMILTON, THE ARDENT PAMPHLETEER-PATRIOT, MADE A SEEMING ABOUT-FACE AND BECOME A DEFENDER OF LOYALISTS IN SUITS BROUGHT IN THE NAME OF THE CAUSE HE HAD SERVED SO RIGOROUSLY....

 

WHY HAMILTON REPRESENTED THE LOYALISTS IN COURT IN AN IMPORTANT POINT THAT HAS BEEN TREATED CONSIDERABLY BY HIS BIOGRAPHERS. SOME HAVE CREDITED HIM WITH ARISTOCRATIC LEANINGS WHICH WOULD LEND HIS SYMPATHIES TO THE GENERALLY ARISTOCRATIC TORIES. ALSO, IT HAS BEEN CONCLUDED, HE OPPOSED MOB ACTION AND DEFENDED THE LOYALISTS IN THE FACE OF IT. 

 

HAMILTON'S LETTERS ON THE SUBJECT, HOWEVER, DO NOT INDICATE EITHER OF THESE REASONS, ALTHOUGH EACH MAY BE, IN SOME MEASURE TRUE. BY DEFENDING LOYALISTS, HAMILTON WAS PUTTING INTO PRACTICE HIS BELIEFS IN "NATIONAL HONOR, SAFETY AND ADVANTAGE." HE KNEW HIS ROLE WOULD BE UNPOPULAR: "THOSE WHO CONSULT ONLY THEIR PASSIONS MIGHT CHOOSE TO CONSTRUE WHAT I SAY AS TOO FAVORABLE TO A SET OF MEN WHO HAVE BEEN THE ENEMIES OF THE PUBLIC LIBERTY."

 

IN THIS ROLE, ALSO, HE WOULD APPEAR INCONSISTENT. EVEN BEFORE THE RATIFICATION OF THE ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION, HAMILTON HAD COMPLAINED OF THE LACK OF AUTHORITY IN THE EXISTING CENTRAL GOVERNMENT AND HAD MADE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ITS IMPROVEMENT. HE HAD CALLED FOR A CONVENTION TO REVISE ARTICLES THAT HE THOUGHT WERE DEFECTIVE, "NEITHER FIT FOR WAR NOR PEACE." IN 1782, AFTER THE ARTICLES HAD BEEN RATIFIED, HAMILTON STILL BELIEVED THAT THEY SHOULD BE REVISED.
