Co-Workers of the Truth

Co-Workers of the Truth
In pursuit of the truth - cinops be gone -(Happy New Year) Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012

Good News: We have 9 books available for our first meeting on Thursday, Dec. 6th.

MY purpose is to try to introduce some practical pro-life and marriage ideas from Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger’s book published in English in 1992, titled “Co-Workers of the Truth - Meditations for Every Day of the Year.” Ignatius Press. It is personal because for the last eight years I have meditated on this book. (If you have a Nook or a Kindle, Co-Workers is available for $12.29.)

Why the Pope wrote the book? It was his secretary Sister Irene Grassl who made the suggestion that the he compile from various writings a kind of breviary of reflections for each day of the year. This occurred shortly after his consecration as bishop in 1977. There is a promise implicit in the Pope’s motto from the Third Epistle of Saint John, verse 8, that was adopted from his coat of arms: “Co-Workers of the Truth”.

He calls upon the faithful to extend hospitality to all and become messengers of the Faith as a service to the truth, co-workers of the gospel, and “the task of the bishop; he too, and especially he, is a co-worker”, that is, he does not act in his own name but is always and totally linked to a “with”. Only when he acts “with” Christ and “with” the whole believing Church of all times and all places does he do what he is meant to do. It is not his task to fashion a community for himself, but, rather, to fashion the Church of Christ. That means that he must point to Him who is the Way because He is the Truth (Jn 14:6)”

It is my belief that had we listened more closely to Blessed Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI we would have greater unity in our American Catholic Church and in our universities. This “Year of Faith” provides an opportunity to pray and work towards that goal. Agenda items:

Introduction: Name and Church only. Sign in will include telephone number and e-mail.

Purpose of the Question Box:

1) Begin with a Litany of St. Thomas More. We end our meeting with three Glory Be….

4) We try to keep the mindset of Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen. What was it? ‘We resolve to take up our cross and be a disciple of Jesus Christ, who in the words of the Servant of God Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, “will restore within us moral indignation, Who will make us hate evil with a passionate intensity, and love goodness to a point where we can drink death like water.”’ (For example educating citizens to believe in pro-life, pro-marriage and traditional America.)

Agenda: a) Evaluation of Education Signs b) The Abomination at University of San Diego c) Catholic Congresswoman introduces resolution condemning sexual reparation therapy. D) Islam: the New Marxism e) The Silent Boycott. F) Check questions in our Question Box.

Our thrice monthly meetings consist of like-minded pro-life and marriage advocates. We begin with Thursdays, Dec, 6, 13, and 20th. Time will be 9-10:15 AM. Location: “Chick-Fil- A” in Long Beach.
