“Most shocking was the presentation by Elaine Donnely, President of the Center for Military Readiness, regarding the impact on our military if homosexuals are allowed to serve openly. She states: ‘The extraordinary responsibility of the armed forces, the unique conditions of military service, and the critical role of unit cohesion, require that that the military community … exist as a specialized society … characterized by the own laws, rules, customs and traditions, including numerous restrictions on personal behavior that would not be acceptable in civilian society… The prohibition against homosexual conduct is a longstanding element of military law that continuous to be necessary in the unique circumstances of military service.’
“Barack Obama is using our defense forces for ‘political payoff’ and ‘social engineering’ to appease his homosexual allies. {Urge Congress NOT to repeal U.S.C. Section 654, Title 10- the existing law that bans gays from serving in the military. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is for the repeal.}
“In addition to the power of the President, there is tremendous pressure on Congress from radical homosexual groups and lobbyists to repeat the law… In 1993 Congress overwhelmingly REJECTED President Clinton’s proposal to allow homosexuals to openly serve in the military…
“President Obama’s goal of repealing this law would have disastrous consequences for our national security. Men and women living in close barracks, cramped submarine quarters, or using common showers must know that their fellow soldiers does not view them as a sexual object. Unit cohesiveness and trust is critical to military readiness and morale.
“The mainstream media is not reporting that a Military Times poll showed that 58% of military respondents oppose the repeal of the law… that military associations like the Veterans of Foreign Wars strongly oppose any such change of policy… and that more than 1,000 retired military officers have signed a statement supporting the 1993 law and opposing this new Obama policy…
“THE MILITARY TIMES POLL SAYS THAT A FULL 10% OF RESPONDENTS WOULD NOT REENLIST IF THE LAW IS REPEALED! That equals to more than 228,000 trained military personnel leaving their units in a time of war- greater than the size of our current U.S. Marine Corps. Perhaps even worse, another 14 % of poll respondents said they would consider ending their careers through retirement if this ban is repealed! …
“Imagine the impact on national security and readiness if so many dedicated soldiers, marines, seamen and airmen decide to leave military service... If this law is repealed, just think about these topics hotly debated in the civilian world – being the focus of our Armed Forces. Housing and living quarters … same-sex partner benefits … civil unions … child custody disputes … sexual misconduct allegations … diversity training … plus threats to free speech and religious freedom… Why would the Commander of our armed forces support a policy change so potentially dangerous …?
