Garden Grove, California – Tea Party supporters plan to hold a rally a little less than a month before midterm elections with a gathering at the Village Green on Saturday.
Tea Party organizer Phil Yarborough says his goal is to provide an opportunity for peoples’ voices to be heard. He expects at least 1000 people to attend the noon rally. “Our real desire is to see people express their views on freedom and our Constitution,” said Yarbrough, who is trustee of the Rancho Santiago Community College District’s board. “Our hope is to allow people who are new to this kind of activism the opportunity to be joined together.”
Dan Shippey who is organizing the event along with Yarbrough, said he became involved in the Tea Party movement because he was deeply concerned about the American people losing their basic freedoms. “I have always been an enthusiastic student of our Constitution. If that is the only impact the Tea Party is going to have on Orange County to me, that is a great impact.”
Both Yarbrough and Shippey say the Tea Party movement transcends party line, but that a majority of those in the Tea Party movement are Republicans, Libertarians or independents. “I’m an independent,” Shippey said, “And there are a lot of people like me who are not happy with what the Democratic or Republican parties have been doing.”
The event will feature Rep. Ed Royce, R. – Fullerton, Assemblyman Van Tran and Orange County Republican Party Chairman Scott Baugh. Yarbrough said he hopes that his Tea Party Rally will be a wakeup call to voters to exercise their rights Nov. 2. “There seems to be a lot of apathy among voters today,” he said. “We want to send out the message that it’s important they get out and vote if they want change.”
Desare Ferraro plans on participating in the rally, … “I think the Tea Party movement is playing an important part in educating people about the Constitution and the importance of preserving our freedoms,” she said.

P.S. Please come early. Bring your folding chair. For we need thousands to attend. It’s about Patriotism, the Constitution, Life and Liberty. Let’s beat the numbers that will show up for Ex-President Bill Clinton who is supposed to arrive in Santa Ana on Oct. 15th for a political campaign.
