A CHOICE OF READINGS AND PRAYERS FOR THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 26, 2020
IN PURSUIT OF THE TRUTH - HTTP://WWW.CINOPSBEGONEBLOGSPOT.COM - SUN. APR. 26/2020

1. The Glory of America: Peter Marshall and David Manuel, Forward by Bill Bright, Calendar April 26

When General Washington resigned his commission from the army in 1785, he sent a letter to the governors of the thirteen States which conclude with a prayer.

"Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy Holy protection, and ... wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation."  Annals, II, 627

2. Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, "Co-Workers of the Truth," Meditations for Every Day of Year" - April 26

From now on you will be catching people", Jesus said to Peter on the morning he called him (Lk 5:10). Of all the interpretations of these words that I have heard, the one that most impresses me is that of St. Jerome. What he says is more or less as follows. When the fish is drawn out of the water it means that it has lost the element essential for its life. It can no longer breathe and so it perishes. But for men what happens in Baptism, in becoming a Christian, is the opposite. Until that time we have been imprisoned in the salt water of the world. We cannot see the light, God's light. We cannot see the broad expanse of the world. Our sight is shrouded in darkness of the water and directed down-ward and our life is sunk in the death-world of the salt water. But when we are drawn out of it in Baptism then we will begin to see the light; then we begin truly to live...

3. The Best of the Bible, "365 Must-Read Bible Passages" - Tyndale House, Wheaton,  Illinois 1996        The King Who Was Seven Years Old,  2 Kings II:1-21
"And all the people of the land went over to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They demolished the altars and smashed the idols to pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars...
Joash was seven years old when he became king."

4. Blessed Margaret of Castello, O.P.
"As an unwanted deformed child would she not be 'the saint' for our time ... a special patron of the unborn, the handicapped, the disabled, the social outcasts ... the patron of the UNWANTED? Will you not join in a crusade for he canonization? She will never fail to help those who invoke her."

5. Ninth Day of the Novena to Saint Pio Of Pietrelcina:
Reflection: "To my spiritual children, my prayer for you will never be lacking ... Once I take a soul on, I can take on their entire family as my spiritual children, and all who have confided themselves to my priestly care, have entered." Saint Pio

6. Prayer for Our Country.
O Most Blessed Virgin Mary....
Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God's law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the True Source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And don't forget the daily rosary.

7.Today, Bishop Barron's Daily Mass at 9 A.M. and repeated all day... a great homily.

George H. Kubeck

Yesterday, I recall Dominican St. Martin de Porres's two hour film, at 5 P.M. on EWTN. St. Martin's attitude and words were saintly,  Hopefully, the film will be repeated and worthy to view again.
