THERE IS A JOYOUS CELEBRATION!

This is a report on the 9:30 A.M. Mass. The Homily by Father Jack: Last Mass today will be at 5:30 P.M.

Don Bosco is a patron of youth and a patron of purpose. He was born in 1815 and died in 1887. It takes a saint and all his energy to do what he achieved. We have the benefit of God and the Holy Spirit. God reminds us if we are not on track. For the secular man it could be a purpose to reach that goal in ten years, six hours of study and work each day. However, in the end…*

As a boy Don got into fights trying to correct the behavior of other boys on the playing field. Mary came to him and told him do it her way be merciful and humble. Don had a dream where the wild animals changed into goats and lambs. Don was mentor to young boys many of whom were orphans. That was the environment at that time. Large families did not have the monies to feed the son who at 15 or younger could scramble to be on his own. Don became a priest at 26.

Instill the love of Christ into the kid’s life. He taught them how to say the sign of the cross: Pray the Hail Mary. The kid was always to him and others as “This is my friend.” He looked at a picture of “Mary Helper of Christians.” That dream of mine was my purpose.

Time wise, in our country in 1860, we had the Civil War. Lincoln came for us to be united.

Think of St. Vincent de Paul and Mother Teresa. One day she saw a woman lying in the gutter. The second time she saw her again. And that was the start. The same way it was with John Bosco. Taking the risk and repeating it over and over again. Often he picked the wrong kids. Don Bosco was a man of purpose and this has an application to everyone here.

Towards the very end of his life, Don had difficulty in turning around at Mass. They helped and he had tears in his eyes when he saw a picture of “Mary Helper of Christians,” and he remembered his dream as a child.

When you find your purpose; help me find my purpose. You got to find it. Then put all your attention behind it. That is what makes you successful. The dedication and everything that you are doing is pointed in that direction.
