Religion Taught in Russian Schools

Religion Taught in Russian Schools

“On July 21, 2009, President Dmitry Medvedev, President of Russia, announced plans to reintroduce religious education in the public schools. For most people over 40, this announcement must come as a real shock.

“The plan would give parents of students at 12,000 Russian middle schools a choice to have their children learn either Russian Orthodoxy or secular ethics. Schools that have a significant number of Muslims, Jewish or Buddhist students could offer courses in those faiths. Roman Catholicism is a minority religion in Russia, but it has the potential to be offered to students. President Medvedev also stated that this pilot program demonstrates their government realizes a full education includes more than just reading, writing and arithmetic.

“The fact that the Russian Government is planning on teaching religion/ethics is mind-boggling considering history since 1917. Communism began with the Russian Revolution that year and this form of government had been described as “militantly atheistic.” Religion was allowed, but better stated, it was tolerated… An ideological objective of communism was the elimination of religion and the promotion of “scientific truths.” Children were told to report to the authorities if their parents taught them religion at home, and in the process, they made themselves orphans.

“Blue Army’s Response to the Red Army: Beginning in 1947, the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima was started by Monsignor Harold Colgan in a parish church in New Jersey to thank the Blessed Virgin for a cure from an almost fatal heart ailment. The Blue Army was to be a religious response to the Red Army of atheistic communism. Joining forces with John Haffert, within a just a few short years, together they inspired millions of people to pray for peace and the conversion of Russia. This fact was mocked by the communists in their October 1967 Science and Religion magazine which was used for propaganda purposes. The “Cold War” between the U.S.A. and Russia began after World War II.

“Following the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by Pope John Paul II in March, 1984, a number of unbelievable events began to transpire beginning with the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany. Shortly thereafter, one Communist country after another began to collapse, almost miraculously and without a bomb being dropped. Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Mikhail Gorbachev, and many others played key parts in the collapse of Communism. The millions of Rosarys also played a large part….

“U.S.A. Prohibits Religious Education: It is ironic and sad here in the U.S.A. that religious education is not allowed in public schools and prayer has been banned… Moments of silence or silent prayer at appropriate moments must be reinstituted. Russia has found a way to deal with teaching various religions and we could do the same… The future of our country and our world depend on a belief in God. Our country’s founding fathers also had this belief. They just did not want the government “establishing religion” and most probably did not want a government/legal mandate against religion. “In God We Trust” appearing on our currency is a reminder of this belief.”
