I APOLOGIZE FOR THE UNCLEAR POSTINGS OF THE LAST SIX DAYS. GEORGE H.KUBECK

Obama's Remaking of America

Obama’s Remaking of America In pursuit of the truth- www.cinopsbegoneblogspot - St. Pius V, Mon., April 30/12 Excerpts from Patrick J. Buchanan’s article. I will focus on # 3. Anyone who believes America’s culture wars are behind her should have started out on Friday, March 2/12 by reading The Washington Times. The headlines on the three top stories on page one read: 1.) “California judges asked to say if they are gay.” 2.)“Tebow Bill’ for home-schoolers dies in Virginia Senate panel.” 3.) “Opt-out on birth control defeated in Senate.” 1.) The California judges story dealt with the lately passed Judicial Appointments Demographic Inclusion Act, which mandates a survey of all of the 1,600 judges - to find out how many are homosexual. Purpose of the law: “Promote and increase the representation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the … judicial branch… Forty percent of the judges balked, refusing to reveal their sexual orientation. One percent said they were gay. One percent said they were lesbian. One judge identified himself as transgender. “Welcome to 21st -century America.” Under the old American ideal, the lawyers who proved the most qualified by wisdom and experience were to be elevated to the bench. The new ideal is that California’s judiciary should mirror the diversity of the state… Were an Olympic team or a symphony orchestra to be chosen on the basis of this kind of diversity, they would be a joke. 2.) The “Tebow Bill,” named for Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who played high school football while being home schooled, was crafted to allow home-schooled Virginia kids to try out for the tennis, football, baseball, and basketball teams at their local high schools. The Virginia House approved the measure 59-39. But a Senate panel sank the Tebow on an 8-7 vote, denying 38,000 Virginia home-schoolers their last chance to play high school sports. Every Democrat on the panel voted as the Virginia Education Association dictated. 3.) The amendment of Sen. Roy Blunt (R. Mo.) would have assured Catholic institutions and Catholic employers of their freedom to opt out of providing out of providing health care insurance coverage for contraception, abortifacients, and sterilization for employees, if they have religious objections. [Defeated by 51-48] The position of the Catholic Church on this issue is neither new nor is it unknown. It was reaffirmed in 1968 in the famous encyclical Humanae Vitae of Pope Paul VI, artificial birth control is unnatural and immoral. This is high among the beliefs that differentiate Catholic teaching from other Christian faiths. Nor is it any secret. And any government that orders Catholic institutions and employers, against their religious beliefs … has crossed the line between church and state to trample upon the First Amendment religious freedom it was established to protect… The America of Barack Obama that is emerging appears to be a country where civil disobedience may yet become a duty of traditional Christians and devout Catholics… George H. Kubeck - There were about 13 Catholic-in-name-only Senators that voted to defeat the Blunt Amendment. It means that when we talk about the HHS Mandate, we have an elephant in the room which nobody want to think about. We must vote these 13 Obama Catholics out of office. Now in Calif. think about another 13 Obama CINOPS in Congress, Nancy Pelosi, Loretta Sanchez etc.

Dear Editors of Commonweal, and America Pursuit of truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com -Good Shepherd Sunday, April 29/12 Reference “Partisan Dangers” July 17, 2012 - Commonweal - Also, Bishop Lori responds to the editorial of “America.” (Mar. 24th) and Envisioning Religious Liberty - (Mar. 11th) As a subscriber to your magazines in a time of crisis, all Catholic label persons should stick together. Even if you don’t practice the Catholic faith. Remember the Faith of your parents and great grandparents. They built the schools and hospitals. They believed in the Magisterium, the Pope, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Think out of the box. Set aside your bias against bishops. Follow the leadership of Timothy Cardinal Dolan. The Obama Health and Human Service Mandate (HHSM) is a clear violation of the 1st Amendment to the Constitution. If enforced, Catholics would become second-class citizens in America. I and others did not come to America to be second-class citizens. The Government has brought this issue to the forefront, not the U.S. Catholic Church. Note the bracketed sentences are from your editorial. “It urges Catholics to participate in a “Fortnight for Freedom” leading up to this year’s Fourth of July holiday, during which they are asked to study, pray, and take public action against what it describes as concentrated government efforts to deprive religious groups of their rights.” [You have a duty to inform your readers. Are they informed on why this is going on?] “Religious freedom “ought not to be a partisan issue,” the bishops declare. They are absolutely right.” [The Obama administration has made it a partisan issue.] “The bishops’ description of the various threats to religious conflates a number of disparate federal, state and judicial actions into an alleged unified and urgent peril. The argument is hyperbolic.” [Be fair now. It is not a an overstatement or exaggeration.] “It is not at all clear that the threat to religious liberty has suddenly become much greater.” [Where have you been January 2009 of the Obama administration?] “As religious objections to abortion and contemporary sexual mores have come to dictate Republican Party policy, many other Americans have reacted by becoming deeply suspicious of the role of religion in politics.” [Isn’t that what pro-life Democrats have tried to do within the Democratic Party? Have you supported or organized them? Why not?] “For their efforts to be effective, the bishops’ must be seen to be nonsectarian and independent of electoral politics. [That is hard to do when America has a two-faced, double-standard news media. You can help by being different and focusing on the truth.] “In their simplistic rhetoric, the bishops sound more like politicians than pastors.” [Timothy Cardinal Dolan is not using simplistic rhetoric. Have the backbone to support him. Please help the Church to strengthen pro-life and educate on true marriage. As Jesuits you have sworn an oath of loyalty to the Pope and to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Do not become an Obama Catholic. Support the true Catholic option for the poor. Remember the Social Justice programs of Bill Ayers and Sol Alinsky are diabolical.] George H. Kubeck

The Love Song of Saul Alinsky

The Love Song of Saul Alinsky The relentless pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Saturday, Apr. 29/12 “In Memory of the Patriot Andrew Breitbart” http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/03/04/obama-alinsky-love-song Prior to his death, Andrew Breitbart said that the mission of the Breitbart empire was to exemplify the free and fearless press that our Constitution protects - but which, increasingly, the mainstream media denies us. … first and foremost: Andrew pledged to vet President Barack H. Obama… he wanted to show that the media had failed in its most basic duty: to uncover the truth, and hold those in power accountable, regardless of party. In 1998, a small Chicago theater company staged a play titled “The Love Song of Saul Alinsky, dedicated to the life and politics of the radical community organizer whose methods Obama had practiced and taught on Chicago’s South Side. So, what’s in the play? It truly is a love song to Alinsky. In the first few minutes of the play, Alinsky plays Moses - yes, the Biblical Moses - talking to God. The play glorifies Alinsky stealing food from restaurants and organizing others to do the same, explaining, “I saw it as a practical use of social ecology; you had members of the intellectual community, the hope of the future, eating regularly for six months, staying alive till they could make their contributions to society.” In an introspective moment, Alinsky rips America: “My country … ‘tis of Whitehall/ And justice up a tree … How much can you sell/What’s in it for me.: He grins about manipulating the Christian community to back his programs. He talks in glowing terms about engaging in Chicago Politics with former Mayor Kelly. He rips the McCarthy committee, mocking, “Everyone was there, when you think Back - Cotton Mather, Hester Prynn, Anne Hutchinson, Tom Paine, Tom Jefferson … Brandeis, Homes … Gene Debs and the socialists … Huey Long … Imperial Wizards of all stripes … Father Coughlin and his money machine … Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd … and a kicking chorus of sterilized reactionaries singing O Come, All Ye Faithful…” And Alinsky talks about being the first occupier - shutting down the O’Hare Airport by occupying all the toilet stalls, using chewing gum to “tie up the city, stop all traffic, and shopping, in the Loop, and let everyone at City Hall know attention must be paid, and maybe we should talk about it.” As Alinsky says, “Students of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your juicy fruit.” The play finishes with Alinsky announcing he’d rather go to Hell than Heaven. Why? “More comfortable there. You see all my life I’ve been with the Have-Nots: here you’re a Have-Not if you’re short of money, there you’re a Have-Not if you’re short of virtue. I’d be asking more questions, organizing them. They’re my kind of people- Hell would be Heaven to me.” That’s The Love Song of Saul Alinsky. It’s radical leftist stuff, and it revels in its radical leftism… This was also the period just before Barack Obama served with Bill Ayers, from 1999 through 2002 on the board of the Woods Foundation. They gave capital to support the Midwest Academy, a leftist training institute steeped in the doctrines of - you guessed it! - Saul Alinsky, and whose alumni now dominate the Obama administration & its top political allies in & out of Congress. George H. Kubeck - What more is there to say or think?

The President's Talent for Ly--- Convincingly

The President’s Talent for Ly--- Convincingly By the distinguished Black American Thomas Sowell, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution Stanford University, Washington Times National Weekly, April 9, 2012 The relentless pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Friday, April 27, 2012 “One of the highly developed talents of President Barack Obama is the ability to say things that are demonstrably false, and make them sound not only plausible but inspiring. “That talent was displayed just last week when he was asked whether he thought the Supreme Court would uphold ObamaCare as constitutional or strike it down as unconstitutional. “He replied, “I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.” … The Supreme Court has been doing precisely that for 209 years! Nor is it likely that Barack Obama has never heard of it. He has a degree from Harvard Law School and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago law school. “In what must be one of the most famous Supreme Court cases in history - Marbury v. Madison in 1803 -- Chief Justice John Marshall established the principle that the Supreme Court can declare acts of Congress null and void if these acts violate the Constitution. In short, he is simply lying. “Now there are different kinds of liars. If we must have lying Presidents of the United States, I prefer that that they be like Richard Nixon. You could just look at him and tell that he was lying. “But Obama is much smoother. On this and on many other issues, you would have to know what the facts are to know that he is lying. He is counting on the fact that, in this era of dumbed-down education, many people have no clue as to what the facts are. “He is also counting on something else - namely, that the pro-Obama media will not expose his lies. One of the many ways of lying is simply redefine words. Barack is a master of that as well. “In the comment on the case pending before the Supreme Court [in June - Obamacare], President Obama wanted to remind “conservative commentators” that have complained about “judicial activism” - which he redefines as the idea that “an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law.” “First of all, every law that the Supreme Court has overturned for the past 209 years since Marbury v. Madison was “a duly constituted and passed law.” Second, the “judicial activism that conservatives have complained about was judges making rulings based on how they felt personally about issue at hand, rather than what the U.S. Constitution said… It would be hard to become nostalgic about Richard Nixon, who was forced to resign in disgrace. But at least you could tell when he was lying. Obama’s lies are just as big but not that visible, & the media that exposed Nixon is covering up for Obama.” George H. Kubeck - P.S. We are going to suffer through a historic presidential election between a pied piper/emperor wore no clothes president and the stark reality president, Mitt Romney.

Obama's Freedom Deficit

Obama’s Freedom Deficit In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Thurs. April 26, 2012 Excerpts from “Obama’s Freedom Deficit” by O. Carter Snead in “First Things” - Mar./12 “In a time of economic crisis and human suffering, the administration has imposed barriers on faith-based institutions that feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, and educate the young… It is not just the freedom of the religious that hangs in the balance, but the welfare of the needy and the strength of our civic fabric. “During the first years of the Obama administration, the federal government has dramatically turned against religious liberty, prompting Timothy Cardinal Dolan, archbishop of New York, to observe that “never before have we faced this kind of challenge in our ability to engage in the public square as a people of faith and as a service provider.” “The administration has ignored the concerns of religious (and nonreligious) citizens by conscripting taxpayer dollars to support organizations whose work involves the destruction of unborn human life and by electing obstacles to the charitable work of religious bodies. “In November 2009, President Barack Obama, and shortly there-after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, abandoned the phrase “freedom of religion” when discussing administration priorities in favor of “freedom of worship.”… “It began on his third day in office, President Obama restored funding to organizations overseas that provide abortions and moved to reinstate funding to the United Nations Population Fund, which supports China’s one-child policy, a program that involves coerced abortion. Three months after his inauguration, he authorized federal funding for stem-cell research that relies on and creates future incentives for the destruction of living embryos… “In July 2009, the administration’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reversed its own conclusion and accused Belmont Abbey College, a Catholic liberal arts college, of violating federal employment laws against “gender discrimination” because it refused, on religious grounds, to pay for artificial birth control in its employee health plan. “The health-care reform bill that President Obama signed into law in March, 2010 lacked long-standing restrictions on abortion funding and failed to include sufficiently robust conscience protections for pro-life heath-care providers… “The Obama administration’s HHS altered the grant process for the National Human Trafficking Assistance Program to favor applicants who offer referrals to “family planning services” and abortions… “On January 20, 2012, (CINOP) Kathleen Sebelius issued a statement that the Obama administration would not modify its contraceptive mandate in response to the concerns raised by religious institutions. It would, however, allow religious entities an additional year to make arrangements for compliance. [A threat with arrogance:]… “As Baltimore William Cardinal Keeler once stated, “We don’t educate [poor students in the inner city of Baltimore] because they are Catholic. We educate them because we are Catholic.” The work of Catholic hospitals, social service agencies, and universities is a form of evangelization - of bearing witness to the love of Christ.”… [We can start today with the public witness for our FAITH beginning in October.] George H. Kubeck

Cardinal Timothy Dolan and the HHS Mandate

Cardinal Timothy Dolan and the HHS Mandate In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Wednesday, April 25, 2012 This is serious. You and I are preparing an informational talk on the above topic. We will need some background info on the mindset behind this mandate which compels religious people and institutions to purchase a health insurance contract that provides abortion inducing drugs like the day after pill, contraception and sterilization. You can understand: Why would U.S. Catholic Bishops call for two weeks of action against Obama’s Mandate. “A Fortnight of Freedom,” will run from June 21 to July 4? The mandate is an absolute violation of the 1st Amendment to the Constitution. The mindset doesn’t care and it’s like in your face fellow Americans. Let us seek the origin of this mindset. It does not matter whose President. It would have occurred under Hillary. Let’s find out more about the mandate with two historic examples: 1.) Addressed to the Regents of the University of California, the California Association of Scholars prepared a report called, “A Crisis of Competence: The Corrupting Effect of Political Activism in the University of California. Peter Berkowitz wrote about it in the Wall Street Journal on Mar.31st/Apr. l, 2012. His article is, “How California Colleges Indoctrinate Students.” www.nas.org/documents/A_Crisis_of_Competence.pdg. It seems that graduates of the UC system are ignorant of history and literature; unfamiliar with the principles of American constitutional government and bereft of skills to comprehend serious books and marshal evidence and argument in written work. They don’t study the history and institutions of the U.S.A., or Western civilization. They graduate in English without taking a course in Shakespeare. It’s like committing intellectual suicide. The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) are the enablers, protectors and even apologists for the politicized university and its degraded scholarly and educational standards. The following is unbelievable. The Critical Race Studies program at the UCLA School of law announced that its aim is to “transform racial justice advocacy.” Last year, the leadership of AAUP officially endorsed the Occupy Wall Street movement. All of this is a violation of the law, Article IX, Section 9, of the California state constitution, “The university shall be entirely independent of all political or sectarian influence and kept free of them.” The liberal progressive agenda’s mindset is the mandate. 2.) The year after Ronald Reagan entered the Oval Office (1982) with the goal of restoring America to greatness, Elena Kagan penned a telling and disturbing senior thesis titled “To the Final Conflict: Socialism in New York City, 1900-1933.” In that body of work, Kagan lamented that “a coherent socialist movement is nowhere to be found in the United States”, and that, “no “radical party” had yet “attained the status of a major political force.” Kagan went on to sound a rally cry for “those who, more than half a century after socialism’s decline, still wish to change America.” As Dean of Harvard Law, she removed Constitutional Law classes from the curriculum, and replaced them with studies of international law. Kagan also accepted a $20 million grant from a Saudi Prince Alwaleed, a noted Shariah Law proponent - to implement an “Islamic Studies” program. We have an Obama clone on the Supreme Court. George H. Kubeck - to be continued.

Timothy Dolan : The J.P. Cardinal In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopbegoneblogspot.com - Tuesday, April 24th, 2012 “In one were to pick a modern pope to whom comparisons with Timothy Dolan seem most natural, the obvious choice would be John Paul II. First of all, Dolan is a “John Paul bishop”. Dolan belongs in the John Paul camp, and he’ll often describe himself as a “John Paul II guy.” “At a personal level, one could go on at length indexing the qualities that John Paul II and Dolan share: A kind of swashbuckling, daring, “man’s man” personality A lively sense of humor An instinctive genius for communication, making both me “rock stars” in terms of their charisma and media savvy Personal fearlessness, rooted in a rock-solid sense of who they are. Nobody would ever compare John Paul or Dolan to Hamlet, constantly agonizing over which path to take. Both men almost perfectly incarnate their respective national characters; Dolan is American the way John Paul was Polish. “The overall similarities between John Paul and Dolan are so striking that at one stage I actually thought of titling this book American Wojtyla, a reference to John Paul’s given name. “At first blush, Dolan and Benedict XVI don’t seem such a match made in heaven’ they’re not the sort of personalities that an online dating site such as eHarmony would likely flag as naturally compatible. Dolan has a deep affection for Benedict, not to mention a fierce sense of loyalty - witness the uncharacteristically testy fashion in which Dolan came to the pope’s defense in March 2010, when Benedict XVI was under fire for his handling of the sexual-abuse crisis… However, the two men remain an odd couple - Benedict shy and cerebral, Dolan ever backslapping extrovert. 126 “Yet in one key sense, the two men are simpatico, and that’s in their commitment to what I defined in the introduction as affirmative orthodoxy. The term refers to a complete embrace of Catholic orthodoxy - the traditional elements of Catholic belief and practice - expressed in the most relentlessly positive fashion possible, so that the Catholic message comes across fundamentally as a yes rather than a no. The accent is on what the Church is for rather than what it’s against… “For Dolan affirmative orthodoxy seems more a matter of personal instincts and temperament. In other words, he doesn’t have to think about it, because his own life experience has disposed him to see Catholicism primarily in terms of adventure, romance, and fellowship, and it almost requires an act of will to think of it in any other way… George H. Kubeck- Thankfully we are blessed with a leader and fighter for the U.S. Catholic Church. STOP OBAMA’S WAR AGAINST THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND FREEDOM “ The simple fact is that the Obama administration is compelling religious people and institutions who are employers to purchase a health insurance contract that provides abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, and sterilization. This a grave violation of religious freedom and cannot stand. It is an insult to the intelligence of Catholics, Protestants, Eastern Orthodox Christians, Jews, Muslims and other people of faith and conscience …” [Statement signed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan and U.S. Bishops.] For update information - WWW.USCCB.ORG

Judge James E. Rogan

Judge James E. Rogan
The relentless pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Monday, Apr. 23/12

Excerpts from his historic book, “Catching our Flag”- Behind the Scenes of a Presidential Impeachment - From the Private Diaries of Congressman Jim Rogan - WND Books - 2011

[Jim spoke about the book at the Cal. Repub. Assembly Convention on April 20th, El Segundo, Calif.]

“Candidly, I didn’t vote to impeach Clinton to police his personal life. Whether he had one affair or a thousand of them was of no moment to me. However, as a former prosecutor and judge, I did care deeply about the precedent his conduct set for future chief executives who might later commit perjury or obstruct justice for reasons weightier than testosterone.

“Had the House failed to impeach Clinton just because of the tawdry subject matter, any future president committing perjury or obstructing justice for far more weighty and destructive motives could point to the Clinton Precedent and claim his conduct was not impeachable.

“ Yes, I know, most of you out there in America hated Clinton’s impeachment, and you hated us for doing it. But take this with you: because we impeached him, today you live in a country where every future president is on notice that perjury and obstruction of justice is a one-way White House eviction notice - as long as future Members of Congress have the spine to stand up to him.

“During Bill Clinton’s impeachment, the typical conventions of political engagement turned upside down. The usual rules did not apply, and because of it, history changed. This is an inside account of what happened behind the scenes in Congress during that fractious battle when right looked wrong, wrong looked right, and indifference looked preferable to either.’

“From the time President Clinton assumed office, he suffered an almost unbroken string of scandals. Through it all, we saw repeated examples of the usual rules not applying:

In the mainstream media, Clinton (the sexual harassment defendant) became the victim, and the victim (Paula Jones) was dubbed “trailer trash”;

Judge Kenneth Starr, the respected former federal judge charged by President Clinton’s own attorney general to investigate these scandals, was branded as the villainous-out-of-control prosecutor prying into the personal lives of others.

Monica Lewinsky, the young intern exposed and humiliated in a sex scandal with Clinton, defended him even after Clinton executed plans to have his associates smear her in the press as a crazed stalker-whore;

When other women came forward with credible claims of Clinton’s sexual misconduct, the well-known national “women’s groups” fell silent. Later when pressed on the subject, these same groups defended the accused man and ignored the violated women - even after he admitted lying about his behavior;

The more Clinton sullied the dignity of his office, the higher his approval poll numbers climbed.

America demanded to know the truth, and then grew outraged at those who told it;
In a true abandonment of the usual rules, a handful of politicians cherishing reelection as a top priority volunteered to defend and unpopular principle of law in the face of over 70 percent of the voters demanding they not enforce it, and threatening ballot box retribution if they did."

George H. Kubeck,

How do you explain all of the above? I lived through the above and wrote about it. We had and we still have a two-faced, double-standard media. When the journalist is a corrupt educated progressive the pursuit of the truth is automatically replaced with rationalism and ideology. You would not be wrong to call this type of news reporting even today, Pravda/Goebbels!

The Sleeping Giant - America's Pro-Life Movement

The Sleeping Giant - America’s Pro-Life Movement.
In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Thursday, April 19, 2012

Without doubt the best information on America’s pro-life movement is LifeSiteNews.com . They offer a free newsletter sign-up which reads, enter your e-mail to receive each day’s breaking news in your inbox. It is outstanding.

I believe it is a must for any American pro-lifer. It is has been a major source of information for all the 1400 letters which I have written.

There are dozens of other pro-life organizations that are active in the public arena both educational and political. May I share some of them with you. American Family Association, Americans United for Life, Catholic Advocate, Catholic Answers, American Life League, Capitol Resource Institute. Catholics for the Common Good, Catholic Family and Human Rights, Center for Bio-Ethics, Focus on the Family Daily E-mail Reports, Concerned Women of America, Human Life International, National Pro-Life Alliance, National Right to Life, Priests for Life, Students for Life, SaveCalif.com. Survivors, Susan B. Anthony List and Traditional Values Coalition. Please check them out and support one or more financially.

The good news is that during the last 4 years our nation has moved from pro-choice to pro-life. Sadly, in California the pro-life movement is a sleeping giant. The good news is that in Texas, and many of the other states, pro-life is a giant.

What we lack in California is fearless leadership to explain and proclaim fro-life, pro-family, pro-marriage and economic common sense in the public arena. There is work to be done in collecting signatures for parental notification and the repeal of SB. 48.

I read an article in National Catholic Register, March 25 - April 7, 2012, titled, Knock, Knock, “Catholics Evangelize Door to Door.” I will report on it. Also, another letter “Christians Politicize Door to Door.”
Indirectly, you don’t have to mention the candidate’s support of partial-birth/infanticide abortion and same-sex marriage. But are you a Christian? What do you think of government’s HHS mandate? Under the first amendment we have the right to our religious beliefs and no government interference with our fundamental beliefs. Are you for this? Does the Catechism of the Catholic Church matter to you and your family? If we fail, we are going to be second-class citizens.

Questions Answered # 3 by Cardinal Timothy Dolan

Questions Answered # 3 by Cardinal Timothy Dolan
In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Wednesday, April 18, 2012

1.) You were among the bishops critical of Notre Dame for inviting Obama to deliver the commencement address and for giving him an honorary doctorate. What went wrong?…

This was a time when the Catholic voice in the U.S. needed to be united, when were in a wait-and-see attitude about a president who both inspires and scares us…. We needed a coherent voice, and yet Notre Dame, which is arguable one of the most symbolic Catholic voices in the U.S., instead said it’s time to canonize this guy. I don’t know if that served the Church well. To use the language of Bishop John D’Arcy [of South Bend, Indiana] and the Notre Dame theologian John Cavadin, I don’t know if that was “ecclesially responsible.” 95

2.) I know you had the opportunity to meet President Obama. Are you impressed by him?

YES, HE’S VERY SHREWD, INCLUDING HIS APPROACH TO RELIGION. ONE OF MY FELLOW BISHOPS WORRIES THAT IN OBAMA WE NOW HAVE A “THEOLOGIAN-IN-CHIEF, A NEW NATIONAL PASTOR, AND A NEW PATRIACH OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN AMERICA. HE’S DECIDING CATHOLIC TEACHING, RATHER THAN THE BISHOPS.” Obviously, for the bishop who was telling me this, it wasn’t intended as a compliment, but more as complaint that Obama has managed very successfully to divide the Catholic voice in America. That may be pushing it a little bit, but we have a very clever president…. [Please memorize the above!]

3.) Concretely, is there something Notre Dame, or any other Catholic university, could do that would signal its desire for good relations with the bishops? 98-99

A Catholic university needs to be of service to the bishops… if a bishop needs something - perhaps some advice legally, for instance in government of school matters, … That’s something Notre Dame could do… asking bishops, “What do you need? You’re facing some pretty sharp religious liberty issues coming up … How can we help? … These are areas where our Catholic universities ought to be helping us. They ought to have some data, some studies here, and that’s where I think a Catholic university can reclaim a sense of ecclesial service…

4.) You referred to a divided Catholic voice in America. One example came in the debate over health care reform, where the bishops were opposed on the grounds that the legislation could open the door to new federal funding of abortion. The Catholic Health Association, the main resource and advocacy group for the country’s more than 600 Catholic hospitals and 61 Catholic health care systems, and NETWORK, a Catholic social justice lobby in which women’s religious orders are heavily involved, came out in favor. Is that the sort of thing you have in mind?

Yes, it makes the point very well. When we bishops tried to press legislators to vote against the reform bill unless it included a clear bar on federal funding for abortion, you couldn’t call a senator or member of Congress who wouldn’t say back to you - not in a “gotcha’ way, but sincerely - “Archbishop, you’re telling me that Catholics oppose this, but I’m looking at what the SISTERS just said.” The two things they would quote more often were the NETWORK statement, which was signed by a number of sisters, and the CATHOLIC HEALTH ASSOCIATION. Obama is a skilled politician, and he knows the classic way to succeed is by dividing your enemy. 100

George H. Kubeck -

If the SISTERS were conservative, they would have been excommunicated. Thus far liberal Catholic magazines like America, Commonweal and U.S. Catholic have not come forward to explain in detail the Obama assault on religious freedom and religious beliefs and keep the narrative up to date. In fact, you may also want to check the official Catholic newspaper in your diocese. I am still waiting for the Official Newspaper of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange County, “Orange County Catholic” to start and educate their readers on what’s going on and what needs to be done. I don’t want Catholics to become second-class American citizens after Nov. 6th.

Understanding the Obama Election Campaign

Understanding the Obama Election Campaign
The relentless pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com

Ref. Wes Vernon - http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/vernon120319 - 3/19/2012

OBAMA’S campaign wages a kind of psychological BRAINWASHING to win your vote:
The Alinksyite tactic is to wait with utmost patience for any one of our allies to do something foolish and ripe for public ridicule or condemnation. The moment that happens, they pounce on every conservative in sight, demanding that he/she distance himself/herself from the perceived (justly or not) offender.

In dealing with liberals always go on the offense.
Karl Marx and Wilhelm F. Hegel paved the way for the Frankfurt School (Germany- California- New York): from there, the toxic gospel reached (often subliminally) the general way of arts-entertainment, education, and other opinion-molding influences -ultimately growing bolder and emerging “in your face” during the sixties as the rationale for such flawed nostrums as radical environmentalism, artistic communism, psychological destruction of opponents, and multiculturalism.

Breitbart gives us the best overall summary of Saul Alinsky. “Alinsky was an avowed communist dedicated to installing communism in America from the inside, using the most clever tactical means he could devise. In “Rules for Radicals,” Alinsky pays tribute to “the very first radical … who won his own kingdom --- Lucifer.”

Alinksy believed that the people “are like happy sheep,” who must first “be made unhappy.” which will lead to passivity, then to discontent, and ultimately to “revolution.” That incrementalism was taught at Antonio Gramsci’s Frankfurt School. Alinsky was Obama‘s mentor. I have not read “Rules for Radicals” Then I can better understand the following rules for community organizers.

Check these techniques in Obama’s campaign:

1.)- Flexibility: Moving from method to method, argument to argument. Work like a guerilla, not a coordinated army.

2.) - Confidence: Weak-willed people never win. Do not shy from a conflict. Besides, “power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.

3.) - Experience: A Good community organizer embraces Rousseau’s “experiential learning” (Rousseau having credited with inspiring the French Revolution.)

4.) - Curiosity and irreverence: Values and morals must be questioned. Nothing is sacred. That is “critical theory” at its most basic political form.

5.) - A sense of humor: It is “almost impossible to defend against it.” That is a characteristic the original Frankfurt School lacked. It seriousness made it “boring.” Besides, Alinsky concluded “ridicule is man most potent weapon. “Basically, what we’re talking about here is John Steward vs. Noam Chomsky.

6.) - “Keep the pressure on.” (No! Really?)

7.) - The mere fact that threats are usually more terrifying than the act itself would support the notion that one should “level threats whenever possible.”

8.) - Find the enemy’s most cherished belief, then exploit it against your target. (Example: Gandhi exploiting British civility.)

Back to what Breitbart saw as “the most important and famous Alinsky’s rules.” Pick the target, freeze it, then polarize it.” … The all-out attack on religious freedom has spread to raging debates over contraception, and the so-called “war on women,” Sean Hannity on Fox News is daily vetting President Obama. Obama’s choice of Czars explains all of the above influence on this man.

Catholic Entities Undermine U.S. Bishops' Authority

Catholic Entities Undermine U.S. Bishops’ Authority
In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Monday, April 16/12
“Excerpts from National Catholic Register, April 8 - 21, 2012”

“The Obama administration and some Democratic congressmen have been quick to use a “divide and conquer” strategy by invoking these dissident groups as if they are legitimate Catholic authorities.

“The most prominent Catholic supporter of Obamacare has been the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA), led by its president and CEO, Sister Carol Keehan, a Daughter of Charity. Playing a supporting role for her have been officers of the Leadership Conference of Women’s Religious (LCWR) and the conference lobbying arm, Network, Sister Carol declined to be interviewed for this story.

“Nevertheless, Sister Carol and the other high-profile sisters who have publicly opposed the bishops’ position have been hailed by Obamacare supporters as having legitimate moral authority in the Church to counter the bishops… As a result, Keehan gave more permission to legislators who were conflicted about supporting the [Obamacare] bill.

“So what gives these sisters and CHA authority to grant “moral permission” for disagreeing with the nation’s bishops? Nothing. Neither the sisters nor the CHA hold any authority to speak for the Church on faith and morals.

“That authority belongs to the bishops alone, as Archbishop Naumann of Kansas City, Kan., told Catholic News Services… spoke with Vatican officials about the public support of the CHA and LCWR for the so-called “accommodation” in the HHS mandate. The bishops have rejected the “accommodation” because it still requires religious institutions to provide insurance coverage for immoral services…

“Furthermore, the CRA and the LCWR are run by executives who often issue statements without polling their full memberships on policy positions, even though they often imply a consensus of those members when that isn’t the case.*

“For example, the LCWR Feb. 10 statement of support for the HHS “accommodation” was issued in the name of its three officers only. Similarly, the CHA’s Feb. 10 statement was released only under the name of Sister Carol Keehan.*…

“The LCWR has had ongoing disagreements with Church authorities for years, and, in 2001, the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith warned the LCWR about several doctrinal errors it had made regarding homosexuality, ordination of women priests, etc…

“The CHA, on the other hand, is not an entity of the Catholic Church. It is not canonically erected, but it is merely a trade organization that engages in political lobbying and professional development…

“The CHA bylaws state: “The association shall maintain liaison and confer with the USCCB in those matters pertaining to religious and moral practice. However, glaringly absent from the bylaws is any reflection of a commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church or the authority of the U.S. bishop… [Specifically The Catechism of the Cath. Ch.]

Bishop Thomas Tobin of Providence, R.I., “I am very much disappointed in the position that the CHA has taken under the leadership of Sister Carol Keehan on these last two issues - when Obamacare was passed and now with the debate over the HHS mandate. The whole debate over health care, and especially now the attack on the freedom of religion that will certainly affect the Catholic Church - this has been a moment of crisis and great anxiety for the Catholic Church… it’s disappointing that one of members of the family has abandoned us during this time.”…

George H. Kubeck -

* Thus far only 23 orders of women religious have posted on their websites statements supporting the bishops’ position against the HHS mandate. In all fairness, all sisters in their religious order need to have a secret vote. Sadly, this seems to be necessary. President Obama should not be the pope of the dissidents.

National Catholic Register vs. Obama's HHS Mandate

National Catholic Register vs. Obama’s HHS Mandate
The relentless pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Sunday, April 15/12

“We have an important update to share with you about the lawsuit for religious liberty that EWTN filed against the federal government on Feb. 9, 2012. By the time you read this message, news will have broken that the Attorney General of the State of Alabama filed documents on March 22 in the U.S. District Court in Birmingham to join EWTN Global Catholic Network as a plaintiff in its lawsuit against the Obama administration contraception mandate. [This is a whole page info in the April 8th issue.]

“Michael Warsaw, president and CEO of EWTN, and publisher of the National Catholic Register, said, “When the federal government uses its power to coerce a faith-based organization to act contrary to its deeply held values, it destroys that organization’s capacity to fulfill its mission. Ultimately, as is the case with the HHS mandate, if that organization is unwilling to compromise its beliefs, it is destroyed by fines and crushing government penalties; it ceases to exist. In joining EWTN‘s lawsuit, Attorney General Strange shows that he understands this in unacceptable. I am very grateful that he has chosen to use the state’s power to intervene for the common good.”

“Never before has such a threat to our religious freedom presented itself. Yet never before has such an opportunity arisen in America to take a stand for our Catholic faith. As Catholics, we have the foresight to know that God will reign for all time. We know that Christ already has won victory on the cross. But this is sometimes hard to remember when our Church is under such vicious attack.

THE ATTACKS AGAINST US CONTINUE TO GROW

“Today we face a blatant disregard for our religious freedom. The HHS mandate forces religious employers to provide coverage that violates their beliefs. Feminist leaders - for the so-called “good of women” - demand that these employers ignore their morals and provide free contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs in health plans even if it violates their conscience. Meanwhile, as you read in the Register the mainstream media distorts the truth with an erroneous poll of Catholics using contraceptives, even the data shown in the report does not actually back up the claim.

“An advertisement in the New York Times from “The Freedom From Religion Foundation” invites “liberal Catholics” to leave the Church, saying, “Why are you propping up the pillars of a tyrannical and autocratic, women-hating, sex-perverting, antediluvian Old Boys Club?” In response the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights said, “Never has there been a more vicious anti-Catholic advertisement in a prominent American newspaper.”

“Our Church has been attacked from all sides. During this holy time, sanctified by penance, we must persevere in the mission of defending the Faith. God’s stirring our hearts to boldly confess the Truth of the Catholic Church.”

George H. Kubeck,
I’m deeply disappointed that the Catholic magazines, America, Commonweal and U.S. Catholic have not joined in the above legal action. I subscribe to the three in order to find out what liberal Catholics think. Will donate $10. 00 to National Catholic Register - P.O. Box 100699, Irondale, AL. 35210. 2 Letter on the HHS Mandate

2 Letters on the HHS Mandate
In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Saturday, April 14, 2012

Letters to the Editor, National Catholic Register, March 25, 2012

1.) President Barrack Obama’s HHS mandate, which forces Catholic institutions to provide their employees with free contraceptives, sterilization and abortifacients, is a sinister ploy designed to drive a deep wedge between Catholics.

He is hoping that Catholics in the mold of Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sibelius and Sister Carol Keehan will further ditch the Church and follow him in his bid to get reelected to the White House. It’s a simple case of divide and conquer.

Four years ago, Obama campaigned for the “audacity of hope,” appearing as an “angel of light.” Since becoming president, he has militantly and forcefully fought to establish and entrench in the minds, hearts, souls and behavior of Americans the dark evils of abortion, sterilization, homosexuality, contraception and embryonic stem-cell research.

He has gone so far as to promote these atrocities in other nations.

Now that mask is off. Americans can no longer sit on the sidelines and allow themselves to be ruled by a president drunk with power. They must engage Obama’s challenge. They must take up the good fight to ensure that he is not given another term in which to destroy the very soul of America with his anti-life, anti-family, anti-religious policies.

Obama especially wants to see the death of the Church, because he knows she is the last bastion of hope, against a materialistic world that craves immorality at every step.

Our Catholic bishops’ prime objective now must be to convince all Catholics - especially those on the fringe who do not practice their faith - to unite together and end this reign of terror being imposed by Obama and his black sheepdogs.

Pope John Paul II reminds us, “In matters of faith, compromise is in contradiction with God who is Truth” (Ut Unum Sint, 18) In Evangelium Vita (Gospel of Life, 82), he further states: “In the proclamation of this Gospel, we must not fear hostility or unpopularity, and we must refuse any compromise or ambiguity which might conform us to the world’s way of thinking.” (Romans 12:2)
Paul Kokoski, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

2.) I will not support the stipulation that Obamacare requires Catholic employers to provide free contraceptives and abortion drugs such as Ella. I will not support Obama’s war on our liberties.

Making any Catholic person or organization financially support contraception is simply a violation of the First Amendment. “Congress shall make no law … prohibiting the free exercise” of religion. Mr. Obama has no authority to overrule the Constitution. I, one citizen, do not want the Bill of Rights ignored.

Fearing his re-election was in jeopardy, Obama now says that Catholic organizations will not have to pay for the coverage. Insurance companies will provide it free. Anybody want to buy the Brooklyn Bridge? No private insurance company will bear a mandated cost and let it reduce their bottom line. The cost of this “free” birth control will be buried in expenses and be covered by premiums.

I trust that the leaders of the Church and fellow citizens will recognize this parlor trick for what it is. Obama and big government are taking our liberties away bit by bit.

There is clarity here. Obama must not be re-elected. Do what you can to stop the re-election of this administration. Write or call your senators and representatives, and demand the reversal of this violation of our beloved Constitution.

Questions Answered # 2 by Cardinal Timothy Dolan

Questions Answered # 2 by Cardinal Timothy Dolan
In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Friday, April 13, 2012

“A People of Hope, …Dolan in Conversation with John L. Allen, Jr.” Image Books, N. Y. 2012

1.) Why do you think abortion has become the litmus test for Catholic fidelity in the United States in a way it hasn’t in other parts of the world?

I don’t know but I’m glad it has. I don’t think that on most political issues I’m simplistic, but this one does seem pretty black-and-white. We’re talking about human life, an innocent fragile baby, who deserves the full protection of the law. It’s to the credit of the Church that we’ve made this the dominant social justice issue, the number one human rights issue, of the day.

As much as enlightened society would like to say that this issue is going away and it’s not longer considered a major concern, it still is. We all know that. It’s the issue that just will not go away.

Why isn’t this true elsewhere? I don’t know. Is it the case that Europe gave up years ago on thinking that morality should have anything to do with politics? Perhaps we
American Catholics, funny enough, have imbibed some of the Calvinist or Puritanical cast to things. America at its origin reflected a Calvinistic undercurrent, that in some way Geneva should reflect the Heavenly Kingdom, and that politics should reflect what is most moral and ethical.

That may not be what you might call the most Catholic way of putting things, but it would be part of what scholars “American exceptionalism,” the American Puritanical-Calvinistic ethos, which in some ways dovetails with the Catholic approach to the pro-life cause. What do you think? 85-86. [Obama does not believe in American exceptionalism.]

2.) Question … some observers would say you’ve become the new voice of the religious Right. Is that accurate?

I don’t think so but if the point is that our message has become sharply focused, I would agree, and I think it’s because of the towering nature of the abortion issue… Historically, I think it’s entirely valid to make a comparison between the pro-life issue and the slavery issue.

Today we look back at the American bishops on slavery and we blush, because we were far from prophetic. With one or two exceptions, there were no American bishops in the 19th century who stood up and said, “This is intrinsically evil and we must put an end to it now.” Most bishops believed the issue to be too controversial, so we’re not going to talk about it. We have to save the internal unity and cohesion of the house.

At one point the bishops actually wrote, “We have this issue up to worldlings.” Like we’re on Mars or something! We look back with embarrassment on that sort of thing, and rightly so, but we won’t on the abortion issue. 84-85

3.) When the bishops, when the Church take a position against abortion or same-sex marriage, one frequent accusation is that you’re trying to turn this into a confessional state. How, do your respond?

Is it true that the Catholic Church is against same-sex marriage? Yes. Is it true that that the Catholic Church’s against abortion? Yes. But that’s not the reason that we are trying to be so forceful here. We’re also saying that these are issues of human rights these are issues of natural law. In other words, this isn’t about trying to impose specifically religious convictions on the entire country…
We are speaking of issues here that are at the core of what we are as a republic.

One does not have to be a person of faith, whether that faith be Catholic. Jews or Baptist, to hold these views. We’re more speaking as Americans, as people of faith certainly, but we’re making the argument on the basis of fundamental American values. I think we can probably a little better about making that clear. 91-92

Questions Answered by Cardinal Timothy Dolan

Questions Answered by Cardinal Timothy Dolan
In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Thursday, April 12, 2012

We focus on a classic book titled, A People of Hope, Archbishop Timothy Dolan in Conversation with John L. Allen Jr. Image Books, New York, 2012. It is about the mind and heart of now Cardinal Dolan. We dedicate these series of letters from the book to Catholic-in-name-only politicians (CINOP) and their supporters. I want them to know the Cardinal. Listen, try to change, & follow his great leadership of the U.S. Catholic Church.

Give me the affirmative-orthodoxy argument for celibacy.

The best anecdote for me is from my friend Sister Rosario. Forty years ago, if not longer, I was in college seminary and probably questioning celibacy. She was a young sister at Holy Infant at the time. She an excellent first-grade teacher, very effective.

One day she kept a little girl after school to help her with her reading, knowing that the girl came from a very troubled and dysfunctional family. She noticed that the girl kept looking at her, and so finally she asked, “Haley, why do you keep looking at me?” The girl said, “Sister, are you married?” This is a little first-grader, and Sister Rosario replied, “No, I’m not married.”

The girl said, “Oh, good, they you belong to all of us.” I have never forgotten that story. In a very beautiful way, the story offers an icon of what celibacy is all about. It’s a liberating ability to belong to everybody.

I’ve never been much for the pragmatic arguments, and I think we make a bit mistake when we go there immediately - you know that celibacy allows more time, it frees you up. First of all, I think that’s an insult to marriage, second, God knows we’ve got enough examples of celibates who aren’t freed up.

I know some theologians think it is very outdated, but for me the spousal imagery says everything. Celibacy allows us to have a passionate, personal, unfettered commitment to Jesus Christ and his church, which perhaps might not be as evident or as easy if we were married… There is a certain amount of mystique, otherness, transcendental characteristic of the priesthood because of celibacy. Which I think is very didactic and has tremendous positive repercussions. There is a sense of belonging somewhere else that I think is very powerful and cannot be underestimated. I think Catholic people sense that in their gut, even if they’re unable to articulate. 73-74

Where do you stand on denying Communion to Catholic politicians who have a pro-choice voting record?

I always say that I don’t know why this topic only seems to come up with regard to abortion, and I don’t know why it is only directed to politicians. I give the example, which tends to mute liberal audiences, of when I was in Milwaukee and the Klu Klux Klan showed up at the courthouse to demonstrate.

They did in on Friday, and on Saturday we had an ecumenical cleansing of the courthouse steps. I helped lead the ceremony, so I brought holy water and the Book of Blessings. At one point a reporter said to me, “Archbishop Dolan, if any of these Klan members were to show up at the cathedral tomorrow for Holy Communion, would you give it to them?” I said, “No I wouldn’t.” Of course the Liberals applauded that -- “How prophetic, how bold!” Yet they wouldn’t apply the same logic to the abortion question.

That said, in general, I think Communion bans are counterproductive. Unless the defiance of
Church teaching is extraordinary blatant, unless it’s really scandalous, then I would be very reluctant to turn anybody away. I suppose if you had a Catholic legislator who’s almost saying, “I don’t regret abortion, and I’m not working to control it. I’m actually going to promote it & expand it & try to make it virtuous. I think it’s a great thing,” then I would probably feel obligated to step in.
That’s quite different, however, than a politician who is honestly struggling with the issue. For that reason & many others, imposing Communion bans would not be my ordinary modus operandi. 88-90

George H. Kubeck,

Here are some thoughts on the original Weekly Consumer Buyline/Long Beach in the 1980’s and applicable today. This is a conservative common sense approach. All supermarkets are great. The whole idea is to stock up when the price is low for the whole month. Most of the supermarkets we pass by a few times a week. It must be a quick stop to pick up only the specials and move on. We do not have double coupons anymore. Use manufacturer’s coupons when the item is on sale. The Buyline will do the following:
1.) Teach the poor how to fish. Let us not be enablers of the poor.
2.) Teach the middle class survive financially.
3.) Help the entrepreneurs and the rich to make more money and create jobs in our free enterprise system.
P.S. There is a special section in Ralphs which has saved my family over the decades many hundreds of dollars. It’s the one-day old bread and like items at one-half price.

Bill Donohue, President of “The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights” hit the nail on the head with his article in the Catalyst, titled, Good Guys and Bad Guys, April - 2012 - Nat. Hq. N.Y. N.Y. Tel. 212-371-3191 - www.catholicleague.org fax - 212-371-3394

This new class are the ones who shape public opinion. They cluster in the academy, especially in the social sciences and humanities, as well as in the arts, the entertainment industry, the media, and the non-profit sector of the economy. No one doubts their impact on our culture.

“We know from several surveys that the elites are ideologically left-of-center. Moreover, they are thoroughgoing secularists: some are indifferent to religion, while others are increasingly hostile to it. Regarding the latter, there is no religion they disdain more than our own. Why? Because they loathe traditional moral values, and we represent the nucleus of traditional morality.

“There is one other characteristic of the elites and demands our attention, and that is their tendency to divide the world into two blocks: good guys (usually considered victims) and bad guys (the victimizers). They not only see entire segments of society as fitting into one of these two blocks, they see individuals that way as well. Once the label is fixed, there is little that can be done to change it.

“Those segments of our society who are the good guys include liberals, homosexuals, non-whites (especially African Americans), Jews, Muslims, women, atheists, celebrities, and left-wing activists. The bad guys are conservatives, heterosexuals, whites, Christians (especially Catholics and Evangelicals), men, and those who work in business. To prove I’m right, just ask yourself how these two blocks of people are generally portrayed on television…

“Take, for example, a conservative woman. Her views make her a bad guy, but her sex make her a good guy. The former wins every time. Indeed, a conservative woman is typically regarded as a traitor. That’s why Barbara Walters laughed when she heard that Laura Ingraham [A convert to Catholicism] was called a slut by Ed Schultz, [KNBC] but got angry when Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a slut. It matters to good guys like Walters, a liberal, whether the woman being called a conservative like Ingraham (bad guy) or a liberal like Fluke (good guy). It also matters that Ed is a liberal (good guy) and Rush is a conservative (bad guy)…

“Is it possible for a Catholic (bad guy) to be a good guy? Of course. To the extent that a Catholic rejects the moral teaching of the Catholic Church, he moves from bad guy to good guy. Just ask the Kennedys, Nancy Pelosi and Andrew Cuomo…

George H. Kubeck,

I do not accept putting up with the new class, the cultural elite, the prostitution of education in the California colleges or the two-faced, doubled standard mainstream media. How do we resolve all of this? We are looking for leaders in California, someone like Marco Rubio. And to become better informed, it is wise to listen to talk radio from 9 am to 12 noon M-F with Dennis Prager (KLAC 980) or Rush Limbaugh (KFI 640). Liberals hate Rush. Rush can read their minds.

How California Colleges Indoctrinate Students # 2 of 2

How California Colleges Indoctrinate Students # 2 of 2
The relentless pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Mon., April 9, 2012

This article appeared Mar. 31/12 on p. A13 in some editions of the Wall Street Journal.

George H. Kubeck “Incomprehensible, treasonous: This must be disseminated in this election cycle.”

“Some university programs tout their political presuppositions and objectives openly. The mission statements of the Women’s Studies program at UCLA prejudges the issues by declaring that it proceeds from “the perspectives of those whose participation has been traditionally distorted, omitted, neglected, or denied.” And the Critical Race Studies program at the UCLA School of law announces that its aim is to “transform racial justice advocacy.”

“Even the august American Association of University Professors - which in 1915 and 1940 published classic statements explaining that the aim of academic freedom was not to indoctrinate but to equip students to think for themselves - has sided with politicized professoriate. In 1915, the AAUP affirmed that in teaching controversial subjects a professor should “set forth justly without suppression or innuendo the divergent opinions of other investigators; he should cause his students to become familiar with the best published expressions of the great historic types of doctrine upon the questions at issue.”

“However, in recent statements on academic freedom in 2007 and 2011, the AAUP has undermined its almost century-old strictures against proselytizing. Its new position is that restricting professors to the use of relevant materials and obliging them to provide a reasonable comprehensive treatment of the subject represent unworkable requirements because relevance and comprehensiveness can themselves be controversial.

“On the boundaries, they can be - like anything else. However, it is wrong to dismiss professors’ duty to avoid introducing into classroom discussion opinions extraneous to the subject and to provide a well-rounded treatment of the matter under consideration. That opens the classroom to whatever professors wish to talk about. And in all too many cases what they wish to talk about in the classroom is the need to transform America in a progressive direction.

"Last year the leadership of AAUP officially endorsed Occupy Wall Street movement. Excluding from the curriculum those ideas that depart from the progressive agenda implicitly teach students that conservative ideas are contemptible and unworthy of discussion. This exclusion, the California report points out, also harms progressives for the reason John Stuart Mill elaborated in his famous 1859 essay, “On Liberty”: “He who knows only his own side of the case, knows little of that.”

“The removal of partisan advocacy from the classroom would have long-term political benefits. Liberal education equips students with intellectual skills valued by the marketplace. It prepares citizens to discharge civic responsibilities in an informed and deliberate manner. It fosters a common culture by revealing that much serious disagreement between progressives and conservatives revolves around differing interpretations of how to fulfill America’s promise of individual freedom and equality.

“It is certainly true that not all progressive professors intrude their politics into the classroom, but a culture of politicization has developed on campus in which department chairs and deans treat its occurrence as routine. “UC administrators,” the California report sadly concludes, “far from performing their role as the university’s quality control mechanism, now routinely function as the enablers, protectors, and even apologist for the politicized university and its degraded scholarly and educational standards.”

"In California, this is more than a failure of their duty as educators. It is a violation of the law. Article IX, Section 9, of the California state constitution provides that “The university shall be entirely independent of all political or sectarian influence and kept free therefrom.” It is incumbent upon the UC Board of Regents, not to mention the governing bodies of other institutions of higher education across the country, to begin the long and arduous work of depoliticizing our universities and renewing liberal education."

Happy Easter and the Daily Eucharist

Happy Easter and the Daily Eucharist*
In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Sunday, April 8, 2012

Since it was not possible to repeat the Last Supper as such and as a whole, what is, then, the source from which the Mass derives its form? Where did the disciples turn to find this form?

Today, interpreters of Holy Scriptures frequently give one of two different answers to the question: some of them suggest that the celebration of the Eucharist in the fledging Church was modeled on the meals that Jesus shared daily with his disciples.

Others contend that the Eucharist was one of the meals that Jesus shared with sinners. This latter contention has become, for many, a fascinating concept, for it would mean that the Eucharist was a meal at which Jesus sat down with sinners; that it was an open invitation that he extended to everyone without exception.

That immediately led to a profound criticism of the ecclesial Eucharist, because it means, in fact, that the Eucharist can have no definite prerequisites, that it is not linked to either confession or Baptism…. However tempting the thought may be, it contradicts the witness of the Bible.

Jesus’ Last Supper was not the kind of meal that he shared with “tax collectors and sinners”. He modeled it on the traditional form of the Passover, which means that it was a meal celebrated in a family community - that is, a meal celebrated with his new family, the Twelve, with those whose feet he had washed, whom he had prepared, by his words and by the pardon signified in the washing of the feet, to enter into a blood relationship with him, to become one body with him.

But the Eucharist itself is not the Sacrament of Reconciliation to which the Lord invites those who have become one with him, though they remain sinful and weak, but who have, nonetheless, given him their hand and have become his family.

That is why this discernment has been made from the beginning with regard to the Eucharist: “All who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves” (1 Cor 11:29).

Probing Questions: Romney, Reid, Keyes

Probing Questions: Romney, Reid, Keyes
The relentless pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Saturday, Apr. 7/12

PREFACE: As of today, Mitt Romney is not yet the chosen presidential candidate. It would not be America anymore; if same-sex marriage was legalized. First of all, same-sex marriage is unconstitutional and was never part of the Constitution. Something happened in the Mass. State Legislature in June, 2007 that is always been in the stomach of my mind.

It occurred after Mitt Romney was Governor and left office. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi was responsible for bribing 16 Knights of Columbus legislators to prevent a normal marriage measure from being on the ballot for the 2008 election. Evangelicals, Mormons, Catholics and other Christians collected 170,000 signatures.

The successful bribe came from the Gay Agenda Lobby. The mission of the K. of C. is to get those signatures back on the ballot in Mass. and any other state where same-sex marriage is legalized.

I can understand as Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt had to make stupid liberal comments in order to get elected. But he made at least one fatal decision to the state and nation, and contrary to Mormon, Catholic and other Christian beliefs. Alan Keyes states:

“In 2008, Republican presidential candidate Alan Keyes may not get invited to the televised debates but that doesn’t mean he’s going to stay out of the fray … when he believes [others have} abandoned his party’s values - particularly on the issue of same-sex marriage.

“On his campaign website this week, Keyes blasted former Gov. Mitt Romney for being “single-handedly responsible for instituting same-sex marriage in Massachusetts” for the way he responded to the state ruling in 2003.

The article continues: “Most people are unaware of the way Mass., came to adopt same-sex marriage,” the former Reagan administration diplomat said. “They think the state’s Supreme Judicial Court forced it to happen. That’s incorrect.”

The court merely issued an opinion stating that, in its view, the existing marriage law was unconstitutional because it failed to allow persons of the same sex to marry,” Keyes said. “The court then gave the legislature 180 days to ‘take such action as it may deem appropriate in light of this opinion’ - implicitly telling lawmakers to come up with a new marriage statute.”

Noting that the legislature did not act within the court-imposed 180-day window, refusing to let the judiciary infringe on its law-making powers, Keyes said the only reason same-sex marriage became the law was because of Romney’s actions.

“Mitt Romney pushed through same-sex marriage all by himself, in the absence of any authority of requirement to do so, having a complete misunderstanding of his role as governor and of the significance of the court’s opinion,” said Keyes.

Keyes then emphasizes, “The court never ordered him to act, nor did he have the right to act, since the legislature never changed the law. Romney claimed he had no other choice, but that’s completely untrue.” The WND piece additionally cites constitutional expert Herb Titus - founding dean of Regent University Law School - as saying Romney “got it wrong.” What Romney did [was] he exercised illegal legislative authority,” Titus said. “He was bound by what? There was no order … to do anything.”

George H. Kubeck - For more info: http://www.renewamerica.com/romney_millstone.htm

P.S. I believe there is no low profile Mormon believing politician in Congress who promotes abortion/infanticide or same-sex marriage. The Mormon Church would excommunicate him. High profile Democratic Senator Harry Reid and Governor Mitt Romney seem to be exempt. The Catholic Church is totally lax with excommunication.

I wonder if the CINOP has ever been warned of not being eligible to a Catholic funeral. I don’t ever want to see another similar to the one that occurred in Boston years ago. President Reagan said, “Self delusion in the face of facts is folly.”

The 25th Anniversary of Life Chain Sunday

The Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of Life Chain Sunday
In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Good Friday, April 6, 2012

Excerpts from the founder Royce Dunn - www.NationalLifeChain.org and Dear Life Chain Coordinator:
“Let us continue to pray, to brainstorm, to experiment, to test. The Bible speaks of “a new song,” “a new day,” of “fresh oil,” and of God doing “a new thing.”

“At age 73, my continual goal is to see local churches unit city by city and close the nearest abortuary. Francis Schaeffer wrote in his book, “The Great Evangelical Disaster: Every abortion mill should have this sign posted on it” ‘THIS ABORTION MILL IS OPEN BY PERMISSION OF THE LOCAL CHURCH.’”

“Can pro-life learn how to unite and mobilize the local churches in each city? Our small ‘Please Let Me Live’ ministry, with God’s help, closed the six abortion practices in our bi-county area about 20 years ago, but intensive pro-life work within the American church is more difficult today. Still, I continue to experiment, and I encourage you to do so. Pro-life must find a plan through which we can unite the pulpits and pews across America and end the killing, God is surely willing to assist us.

“A New Pro-Life Website for Pastors: The Church Task Force I work with here in California has launched www.PastorsProlifeResourceCenter.org with hope of increasing pastoral involvement. The extensive site covers about 300 different pro-life subject areas, … To determine the subject areas, we conducted a broad survey that included, for example, the index to Jack Wilke’s Abortion: Questions and Answers. We also benefited from the excellent pro-life websites on the internet. I you desire to help refine and strengthen the website, please let me know.

“A valuable, free DVD you may duplicate: www.Pastorsproliferesourcecenter.org features DEAR PASTOR, in which a pregnant teen writes her pastor a probing letter…” “Please register your Chain for Oct. 7th (Canadian will choose another Sunday due to Canada’s Thanksgiving date in 2012), at www.LifeChain.net under “Register You Life Chain” (upper left of your computer screen) … Early registration will not prevent your making necessary changes hereafter…

“In 2011, over 1500 cities and towns held LIFE CHAINS (in over 1700 locations), and each is posted at LifeChain.net. We are now focusing on NATIONAL LIFE CHAIN SUNDAY 2012 - to be held October 7, Lord willing, from 2 to 3:30 PM…. To include your city in 2012, notify via email National Life Chain or call (530)674-5068 and download (from this web site) a copy of Life Chain Manual and other entries und “Life Chain Materials.”

Thereafter, inform your local pastors of you Life Chain plans as soon as possible, and ask them to schedule your Chain on their church calendar. The easy-to-hold 18” x 22” Life Chain signs are back printed to feature Prayer Topics, Song of Meditation, the Life Chain Code of Conduct, and a compelling statement of the Purpose of Life Chain .. The pro-life signs include: Life - The First Inalienable Right, Pray to End Abortion, Abortion Kills Children, Abortion Hurts Women, Adoption: the Loving Option, Pray to End Abortion, Lord, Forgive us and our Nation, Pregnant? Need Help? 800-395-HELP

Two American Barbarians a.k.a Potential Terrorists

Two American Barbarians a.k.a. Potential Terrorists

The relentless pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Thursday, April 5/12

The following two articles kept me awake last night: 1) “Occupy San Francisco” in the California Catholic Daily, April 4, 2012 and 2) Real Clear Politics Video, Lawrence O’Donnell: Mormonism Is An “Invented Religion.”

By their fruits ye shall know them. Let’s focus in on the first one. 1) Emma Gould who identified herself as an Occupy San Francisco spokeswoman. Who in the world does she thinks she is? Her filthy gang of Occupy SF broke into a large building at 888 Turk Street in San Francisco. The building belonged to the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Historically, recall, in Europe we had these filthy thugs, Communist Red Guards or Nazi Black Shirts. Now in every American diocese, Christians have to figure out how to deal with hoodlums.

The reason for the break-in! Gerould said, “There is no reason why any building should be vacant when people have no housing. We ask that the archdiocese do the right thing and allow these services in these buildings.”

The occupiers break-in comes one month after the (Jesuit) University of San Francisco hosted the 2012 Global Women’s Rights Forum. The forum is an annual event at USF. The opening workshop of this year’s forum, held on March 5th was entitled “Economic Justice & the Occupy Movement.” Civic-deficient former members of the anti-war movement.

The Jesuits as you know have sworn an oath of loyalty to the Pope. But for many it’s meaningless. They are smarter. So we have some Jesuits in-name-only. Like we have Catholic-in-name-only politicians: Pelosi, Brown, Sanchez etc. [I am a graduate of a Jesuit college.]

The Chronicle reported that “occupiers” entered the building at about 5: 45 pm on Sunday… By late Sunday night, Archdiocesan officials signed a citizens’ arrest warrant for the occupiers on charges of trespassing and graffiti. At 1:15 pm on Monday afternoon, police in riot gear stormed the two-story building, after tearing down a barricade these creepy protesters build to block the main entrance.

What they left was filth. Demonstrators had “stockpiled” bricks and cans of paint on the roof of the building (and) they blocked windows and doors with plywood and stacks of chairs. The interior of the building was covered in spray-painted graffiti and posters.

I would like to see their former teachers where they went to school to pay for all of this.

Now we come to Lawrence O’Donnell. He is a member of the two-faced, double-standard mainstream media. I have never listened to him on MSNBC. You decide what to do with his filthy smears against the Mormon religion: “Now part of Romney’s religion problem is that he’s part of a new religion. Established religions like Judaism, which is about 4,000 years old, and Christianity which is about 2,000 years old, don’t easily warm up to new religions like Romney’s, which is only 182 years old,” He said on his MSNBC show last night after Mitt swept the three primary states.

“Mormonism was created by a guy in upstate New York in 1830 when he got caught having sex with the maid and explained to his wife that God told him to do it. 48 wives later, Joseph Smith’s lifestyle was completely sanctified in the religion he invented go with it. Which Mitt Romney says he believes,” he (Lawrence) also said. Lawrence O’Donnell should apologize and or be put off the air.

George H. Kubeck, In the American secular religion there is very little that is American or basic. They specialize in smearing Mormons, Catholics and Fundamentalists. They want to become the national religion but the 1st Amendment: “No law respecting the establishment of a national religion.”

The First Holy Thursday*

The First Holy Thursday*

In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Thursday, April 5, 2012

The liturgy for Holy Thursday has a uniquely twofold orientation. On the other hand, the Gloria expresses the joy of the redeemed, who on this day celebrate the victory of the love of Jesus Christ, who has given us the gift of all gifts - Himself.

But at the same time there is the gradually increasing silence, the eventual emptying of the church, the removal of the Blessed Sacrament. Both orientations correspond to the events of the first Holy Thursday.

They are introduced by the words with which, according to Saint Luke, Jesus began the Last Supper: “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer” (22:15).

This desire of Jesus has permeated his whole life up to this very hour when the desire of the bridegroom at last approaches the hour when the desire of the bridegroom at last approaches the hour of its fulfillment, the hour in which the words and the waiting will be succeeded by the full reality of love.

And in the background of this human waiting of Jesus that looks forward to this very hour in which he will make the supreme sacrifice and can become ultimately ours, there is present, too, the eternal desire of God, which also awaits this hour, because God longs to give himself. But what response does this longing on the part of God encounter?

How much difference! How much inner emptiness and disregard! And what about ourselves? Do we really approach this center of the universe with eagerness? Or do we not sometimes flatter ourselves that we are doing God and the Church a favor by spending a hour there with him?”

Do you not often leave the church with empty hearts and almost as a matter of course, as though we had participated in a rite that had just come to an end? Does it not often happen that, when the desire of the Lord come to us, it comes in the night?

Fr. Craig Butters' Pastor at San Francisco Solano parish, RSM, California

PLEASE forward to all; post on blogs, websites, facebook
Diocese of Orange pastor:Abortion is a "private morality" that should not be opposed. Pardon me??

Dear friends of the faith,

Below is a copy of Fr. Craig Butters' (Pastor at San Francisco Solano parish, RSM, Diocese of Orange, CA.) letter to his congregation dated April 1, 2012, regarding the HHS mandate. (link to bulletin page http://www.sfsolano.org/Bulletin.html and click on April 1, 2012 - page 2)

The most offensive lines are bolded and in RED font –

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord April 1, 2012
HSS Mandate: Parameters of Moral Responsibility

"Dear Friends,
On 20 January 2012, President Obama announced that there would be no expansion of the conscience exemptions regarding mandates from HHS (Department of Health and Human Services) for contraceptives, sterilization, and abortifacients (e.g. “morning after” pill). The U.S. bishops rightly called for an expansion of exemptions to include colleges/universities, charities, and hospitals.

On 10 February 2012, President Obama announced an “accommodation” that does expand conscience exemptions. The President clearly heard and responded to the bishops’ concerns. However, there remain problems with President Obama’s accommodation: What about religious institutions that self-insure? And what about drawing a distinction between houses of worship and universities, charities, and hospitals? The original exemption on contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients had defined “religious” so narrowly that Catholic institutions that serve non-Catholics had such charitable service held against them. And so, like with most everything in life, there is further work to do—much more work to do.

Rightly so, the U.S. bishops understood the HHS mandate as a violation of religious liberty, whereupon the bishops have stood on high ground and, consequently, have found themselves having received a ground swell of support.

There is no question about our obligation as Catholics to present faithfully, clearly, and unwaveringly the moral teachings of the Church. Yet given that we live in a democracy (not a theocracy), should the moral teachings of the Church regarding contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients be imposed on all American citizens? Should the Church insist that the conscience exception include an individual private employer who might have an objection to providing contraception, sterilization, or abortifacients—or seek to eradicate the mandate altogether?

Without question, the Church must seek to protect religious institutions from government interference, and the U.S. bishops have rightly “stepped up to the plate.” While Catholic teaching opposes contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients, should Catholic leaders push for laws banning them, even though they are matters of private morality?

Sincerely yours,
(signature on weblink) Fr Craig"

END

First, this is an outrageous twisting of reality AND the actual legal situation. The repeal of the HHS Mandate will not "impose" ANYTHING on "all American citizens"! and, yes the exceptions SHOULD include an individual private employer... If I am a Catholic business owner ( "an indivicual private employer" and I HAVE AN OBJECTION (I am Catholic - it is not only MY objection, but GOD's objection!)- I SHOULD NOT BE FORCED to provide abortion, sterilization, contraception... (italicized text added to clarify)

GOOD GOD, HELP US!

Bishop Tod Brown has issued a very clear letter regarding the mandate situation, encouraging fasting and prayer to eliminate it. This letter from Fr. Craig Butters openly questions this.

With this letter (above) from the pastor, Fr. Craig Butters is also opening a door in the minds of his congregation that contraception is NOT the moral evil that it is and suggesting that the "church leaders" should NOT be working to eliminate the mandate - "...should Catholic leaders push for laws banning them...?" (abortion, sterilization) - we should NOT push for laws banning them? We should NOT be working to overturn (the LAW) Roe v Wade?

The Roman Catholic Church is the GUARDIAN of morality in the WORLD! Putting this in print causes one to consider that Fr. Craig Butters may not be preaching the true teachings of the church regarding contraception and abortion to his congregation. We must ask our bishop to respond, for the sake of the souls at San Francisco Solano parish before Fr. Craig Butters perverts the minds and SOULS! of any more people in the church - laity or religious.

Outrage is a reasonable response to this betrayal of God's teachings and the betrayal of trust given to a pastor in a Roman Catholic Church; and...the total disregard of the babies, the future members of our parishes.

How California Colleges Indoctrinate Students # 1 of 2

How California Colleges Indoctrinate Students # 1 of 2

In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegoneblogspot.com - Wednesday, April 4, 2012 by Peter Berkowitz in the Wall Street Journal, Sat./Sun., Mar. 31/Apr. 1/2012

The politicization of higher education by activist professors and compliant university administration deprives students of the opportunity to acquire knowledge and refine their minds. It also erodes the nation’s civic cohesion and its ability to preserve the institutions that under gird democracy in America.

So argues “A Crisis of Competence: The Corrupting Effect of Political Activism in the University of California,” a new report by the California Association of Scholars (NAS). The report is addressed to the Regents of the University of California, which has ultimate responsibility for the governing of the UC system, but the pathologies it diagnoses prevail throughout the country.

The analysis begins from a nonpolitical fact: Numerous studies of both the UC system and of higher education nationwide demonstrate that students who graduate from college are increasingly ignorant of history and literature. They are unfamiliar with the principles of American constitutional government. And they are bereft of the skills necessary to comprehend serious books and effectively marshal evidence and argument in written work.

This decline in the quality of education coincides with a profound transformation of the college curriculum. None of the nine general campuses in the UC system requires students to study the history and institutions of the United States. None requires students to study Western civilization, and on seven of the nine UC campuses, including Berkeley, a survey course in Western civilization is not even offered. In several English departments one can graduate without taking a course in Shakespeare. In many political science departments majors need not take a course in American politics.

Moreover, the evidence suggests that the hollowing of the curriculum stems from too many professors’ preference for promoting a partisan political agenda.

National studies by Stanley Rothman in 1999 and by Neil Gross and Solon Simmons in 2007, have shown that universities’ leftward tilt has become severe. And a 2005 study by Daniel Klein and Andrew Western in Academic Questions (a NAS publication) shows this is certainly true in California. For example, Democrats outnumbered Republicans four to one on the University, Berkeley professional school faculties; in the social sciences the ratio was approximately 21 to one.

The same 2005 study revealed that the Berkeley sociology department faculty was home to 17 Democrats and no Republicans. The political science department included 28 Democrats and two Republicans. The English department had 29 Democrats and one Republican; and the history department had 31 Democrats and one Republican.

While political affiliation alone need not carry classroom implications, the overwhelming left-leaning faculty openly declare the inculcation of progressive political ideas their pedagogical priority… more faculty now believe that they should teach their students to be agents of social change than believe that it is important to teach them the classics of Western civilization… to be cont’d - George H. Kubeck

Dolan's Conversation with Obama*

Dolan’s Conversation with Obama*
In pursuit of the truth - www.cinopsbegone.com - Tuesday, April 3, 2012

Preface: The best way to understand this conversation is to imagine yourself as a Christian talking to President Barrack Obama. Then figuring out the mindset of this man, Obama!

“Last November, at the end of their 45-minute discussion, the archbishop summed up what he understood as the president’s message:

“I said, “I’ve heard you say, first of all, that you have immense regard for the work of the Catholic Church in the United States in health care, education and charity… I have heard you say that you are not going to let the administration do anything to impede that work, and … that you take the protection of the rights of conscience with the utmost seriousness … Does that accurately sum up your conversation?’ [Mr. Obama] said, ’You bet it does.’”

The archbishop asked for permission to relay the message to the other bishops. “You don’t have my permission, you got my request,” the president replied.

“So you can imagine the chagrin,” Archbishop Dolan continues, “when he called me at the end of January to say that the mandates remain in place and that there would be no substantive change, and that the only thing that he could offer me is that we would have until August … I said, ’Mr. President, I appreciate the call. Are you saying now we have until August to introduce to you continual concerns that might trigger a substantive mitigation in these mandates?’

He said, ’No, the mandates remain. We’re more or less giving you this time to find out how you are going to be able to comply.’ I said, “Well, sir, we don’t need the [extra time]. I can tell you now we are unable to comply.’”

The administration went ahead and announced the mandate…

Archbishop Dolan explains that the “accommodation” solves nothing, since most church-affiliated organizations either are self-insured or purchase coverage from Catholic insurance companies like Christian Brothers Investment Services and Catholic Mutual Group, which also see the mandate as “morally toxic.”

He argues that the mandate also infringes on the religious liberty of nonministerial organizations like the Knights of Columbus and Catholic-oriented businesses such as publishing houses, not to mention individuals, Catholic or not, who conscientiously object.

“We’ve grown hoarse saying this is not about contraception, this is about religious freedom,” he says. What rankles him the most is the government’s narrow definition of a religious institution. Your local Catholic parish, for instance, is exempt from the birth control mandate. Not exempt are institutions such as hospitals, grade schools, universities and soup kitchens that employ or serve significant number of people from other faiths and whose main purpose is something other than proselytization.

“We find it completely unswallowable, both a Catholics and mostly as Americans that a bureau of the American government would take it upon itself to define ‘ministry’” Archbishop Dolan says. “We would find that to be - we’ve used the words ‘radical,’ ‘unprecedented’ and ‘dramatically intrusive.’”

It also amounts to penalizing the church for not discriminating in its good works: “We don’t ask people for their baptismal certificate, nor do we ask people for their U.S. passport, before we can serve them, OK? … We don’t serve people because they are Catholic, we serve them because we are, and it’s a moral imperative for us to do so.”…
