2 - The Mindset on Unionism by One Teacher in 1973

2- The Mindset on Unionism by One Teacher in 1973

In pursuit of the truth – www.cinopsbegone.com – Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Preface: In the name of objectivity, fairness and balance we need an investigative reporter to check out the following: The California public school teachers who retired as I did in 1986 had the best retirement imaginable. It included a yearly percentage increase plus cost of living bonus. Was that due to union contracts or put in place decades ago? Also the reporter needs to check out teacher contracts obtained by professional teacher organizations with School Districts in the “Right to Work States” like Texas, Florida and Georgia. THE PUBLIC HAS A RIGHT TO KNOW THE ABOVE INFORMATION!

I continue with the letter to Assemblyman Leroy F. Greene, Chairman, Education Committee, State Capitol, Sacramento, 95814 – June 29, 1973

AB 1243 will politicize the teaching profession and inject politics in the education of our children. This is for me the worst possible crime that one can commit. Teaching is hard enough, and time consuming without the injection of politics into it. The bill lends itself to the sweet honey of the CTA union lobbyists which is essentially bureaucratic power and control of education in California.

This power rests and belongs with the elected public school board members of education. AB 1243 will upset this equilibrium of power. Why do you want to change it?

What amazes me is this thirst for total and absolute power and control of education by the CTA. They already have 90% or more majority representation on the C.E.C. negotiating Councils with the school boards in California.

Are not the hearings in Washington clear to each one of us? Bureaucratic power and control – human nature being what it is, its weaknesses, the potential and actual abuse of total power:

We are not industrial workers. We are independent-minded professional educators. Please vote NO on AB 1243 and reject SB 400.

Sincerely yours,

George H. Kubeck, Public Elementary School Teacher – 10 years in Westminster, California

P.S. I will be watching CTA maneuvers in Long Beach where sanctions have been invoked. They are in part to educate the public and the legislators on what good bills AB 1243 and SB 400 are. For if we would have had this kind of legislation in the past and passed, we would not have these sanctions.

Correct, we would have had disruptions, strikes, and maybe a financially bankrupt school system to the serious detriment of school children, teachers and community.
