The following are some uplifting excerpts of the speech by President Obama:
“To the families of those we lost to the students of this university [of Arizona], the peoples of Tucson and Arizona. America kneels to pray with you today and stand by you tomorrow.”
“Gabby Gifford will pull through. Scripture tells us where the most high dwells – God will help her… Right after we went to visit. Gabby opened her eyes for the first time. She knows we are here; we love her and are rooting for her. Our heart is full of thanks for that good news.”
“Grateful to Daniel Hernandez: Heroism is here in the hearts of so many fellow citizens.”
“It is part of our nature to demand information – to prevent such tragedies in the future. Our discourse so sharply focuses: To make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals.”
“Scripture tells us that there is evil in the world. Bad things happen: None can know with any certainty of a violent man’s mind.”*
“We have to examine all the facts behind this tragedy! We cannot use this tragedy as one more occasion to turn on each other. That we cannot do.”
“Our priorities- How well we have loved? Making the lives of other people better: Realize our values with our actions: Fidelity to the law.”
“This tragedy prompts reflection and debate. Worthy of those we have lost. – Not on point scoring and pettiness… Loss should be better in our private lives, friends & neighbors.”
“Bring more civility into our public discourse. Face up to the challenges of our nation – make us proud.”
“We are not able to stop all evil in the world. This nine year old girl elected to the student council. I want to live up to her expectations. Let the country live up to our children’s expectations… May God bless the United States of America?”
George H. Kubeck – *It is wise for all sides to study the mindset of this evil spirit in the killer Jared Loughner.
