Most Reverend Dominic M Luong, D.D., M.S. Auxiliary Bishop of Orange County, “In the public square we have materialism and relativism. I am a different person in private… Ask God’s grace to make public affirmation of our faith. That is why we are gathered today.”

Preface: Called by Cardinal John O’Connor Mary Assumpta Long O.P. helped start the “Sisters for Life.” She moved on to found and be the Prioress General of the Dominican Sisters of the Eucharist located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1997 she, along with three other Sisters, founded the Dominican Sisters of Mary of the Eucharist. In these 14 years, the Community has grown from these four Sisters to 100. Their average age is 28 years. They have 37 novices.

The Sisters currently teach in a dozen schools located in eight dioceses in seven states, and continues, yearly, to send more young women Religious into various Catholic schools across the nation. Currently the Sister have three missions in California: Loomis, Sacramento and San Francisco.

It would be a good idea for Catholics and other Christians to purchase the DVD of Sister Long’s talk and have a discussion of it afterwards. In some ways, it can be used as a presentation to join the local Dominican laity. What follows are selected excerpts of Mother Mary Assumpta Long O.P. talk:

"[Each of us is called to accomplish great things. Walk on the water whenever Christ asks you.] What to say at a Catholic Prayer Breakfast? We need to circle the wagons around all the Catholics in the world. To fight the power of evil in the world:
I got the idea from the book of Joshua. When Moses died it was the task of Joshua to lead the people. He went through the whole history of salvation. God delivered them from their enemies. Serve the Lord completely and sincerely: As for me and my household we will serve the Lord."

"Recall the Lord and what he has given us: fullness of faith: sacraments: Sacred Scripture: Tradition: Magisterium: We believe in the Community of Saints. We need to remain Church in our covenant today. To change the culture: For all he has given to us in our faith. It helps to look at Joshua."

"Joshua was chosen by Moses along with 11 other men. Ten believed the nearby inhabitants were too strong. They threatened to kill Joshua and Caleb. But it is the Lord’s will. Only Joshua and Caleb remained alive. Keep the law. Don’t swerve to the right or left. Be fearless. We can be like Joshua and Caleb. What made them so strong?"

"Moses put a veil over his face. The Lord spoke to him face to face. Joshua was a contemplative. We too can do great things for the Lord. Strong prayer life and united with the Saints in heaven: Reference Pope Benedict XVI’s writings..."
