Don't Mess with your Conscience in Voting!

Don’t Mess with Your Conscience in Voting!
Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008
Bishop John B. McCormack of the Diocese of Manchester in New Hampshire has developed a practical resource in understanding the nature of conscience and the moral obligation to vote. www.catholicnh.com / public issues/public-policy

“As Catholics, we believe that all people must faithfully follow what they know with a certain conscience to be just and right. One is obliged to have a well formed conscience according to proper moral principles. Catholic social teaching provides the framework for the formation of one’s conscience on the basis of reason and faith thus setting the stage for us to act as “faithful citizens” as we cast our ballots in national and state elections.

“’The Church’s social teaching argues on the basis of reason and natural law, namely on the basis of what is in accord with the nature of every human being. It recognizes that it is not the Church’s responsibility to make this teaching prevail in political life. Rather, the Church wishes to help form consciences in political life and to stimulate greater insight into the authentic requirements of justice as well as greater readiness to act accordingly, even when this might involve conflict with situations of personal interest.’” (Pope Benedict XVI, Deus Caritas Est., 28.)

At this point let us go to Monsignor James Lisante’s classic on the political realm. It is now Maxim # 2 of the Cinop be gone blog. “To be fully human, to be fully alive and to be a fully Catholic Christian means that you must be deeply involved in the affairs of our time. And specifically, you must be a person of the political realm…. as Catholic Christians and we as spiritual people tend to want to ignore because we see it as a dirty word…. But politics is where good things can happen. It is where; it’s where the Lord’s work can be done.” It is what the Baptists and Evangelicals discovered years ago. It is time for the Catholic Laity to do the same. Reread Mgrs. James Lisante’s article of Dec. 17th on the blog.

We turn now to a poignant article on the blog titled “Remember in 2008 the 16 CINOP Traitors to Our Nation” Sunday, July 8, 2007. These rogue members of the Knights of Columbus were decisive in blocking the Massachusetts Marriage Amendment from being on the ballot in 2008. This whole matters sticks in my mind and throat. It is like voting with the ACLU to eliminate the words under God from the pledge of allegiance. They remind me of the CINOPS in Canada who legalized same-sex marriage in 2005. This will not stand and needs to be rectified.
We are dealing with a false Catholic-in-name-only religious heresy. Justice and truth persuades us to vote No for each CINOP in Massachusetts and throughout the country. It’s a matter of historic honor and integrity for Knights.

The pope spoke of justice overcoming personal selfish interest. With him we are co-workers of the truth.
