Contact Mary E. Quinn – mquinn03@rochester.rr.com

(Please send this to your emails lists after reviewing the following websites and then reading Father’s message. May 17th is a special date to me. I met Father Weslin on my husband’s birthday at a church pro-life dinner May 17, 1996. IRONICALLY, MARIO CUOMO CAME TO NOTRE DAME 25 YEARS AGO TO GIVE HIS HERETICAL SPEECH ON WHY A CATHOLIC POLITICIAN COULD PARTICIPATE IN ABORTION ON DEMAND….)

THANK YOU ALL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE TRIED TO PREVENT:

The greatest scandal that has befallen our Catholic Church here in America – A Catholic University, who bears Jesus Christ’s Most Holy Mother’s name – has given not only a platform but also an honorary degree in Law to the highest elected official in our beloved United States of America.

+despite The Apostolic Constitution of the Supreme Pontiff John Paul II on Catholic Universities
+despite The Catechism of The Catholic Church teachings in regards to giving scandal (#2284-2287)

+despite The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ demand that no Catholic institution should honor anyone who promotes, participates or legislates the killing of unborn children.
+despite the heroic efforts of the Cardinal Newman Society who gathered and presented over 363,000 signed petitions to withdraw this invitation and platform.

+despite the refusal of Mary Ann Glendon, who counseled our bishops and was Ambassador the Vatican, to accept Notre Dame’s Laetare Award
+despite 83 American bishops who pleaded and then condemned this abomination

+despite the hue and cry of alumni who are withdrawing their support and millions of dollars … to be continued and now for:

R.I.P.: The bishops’ “Task Force” on Catholic politicians by Kenneth D. Whitehead, excerpts: Homiletic & Pastoral Review, August – September, 2007 p. 10

… In November, 2003, the bishops set up a special Task Force on Catholic Bishops and Catholic Politicians to deal with this issue.

The then archbishop of Washington, Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, was named chairman of this Task Force. In an interim report to the conference of bishops six months later, in June, 2004, he himself described the Task Force as having originated “in our common frustration and deep disappointment at some Catholic political leaders who ignore or contradict Catholic moral and social teaching in their campaigns or votes….
