To accomplish goals, socialism renounces the power of big business and advocates public ownership and worker control. It opposes or seeks to suppress the two-party political system and supports a radical democracy on egalitarianism. This kind of heavy stuff but it is unlikely that this administration would rebuke even one of these goals.

When he announced the retirement of Supreme Court Justice David Souter, the president declared that Souter’s replace should have empathy for the power struggles of labor and minority groups and not be influenced by “abstract legal theories or footnotes in a case book.” That is No. 10 of the socialist platform.

For more than 200 years, socialism and, later communism have been anathema to the American way of life. America’s strength has been the freedom of ownership under a market-oriented capitalist system. President Obama promised change during the campaign but skillfully obfuscated the dreaded term socialist just as he changed calling the “war on terror” to “overseas contingency operation.” Americans are not so easily fooled.

Our struggle is not against human enemies but against the principalities and powers, against the evil spirits. {Stand firm and let the truth be the belt around your waist.} Put on the armor of God; then you will be able to stand firm when the worst happens; you will fulfill all your duties and hold your ground. {Stand firm and let the truth be the belt around your waist.} Ephesians 6:12, 14. 13 – Today’s liturgy of the hours.

There is a worldly reality and also a spiritual reality. Both are at war with each other. Over the weekend we celebrated Pentecost. The Spirit of Truth is calling us and giving us the seven gifts; if we ask for them. They are Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord.

The culture of death is a term coined by Pope John Paul II in his 1995 encyclical “The Gospel of Life.” What is the difference between the American culture of death and the Obama agenda? There is isn’t any. I wish there was! Obama is using different words and thought processes like dialogue, common ground and let’s not get angry with each other.
