Judie Brown is a voice crying in the wilderness. The time has come to hear her voice in the public square. Her last thoughts in the introduction of the Book will be become her first.
“I am not going to stand or walk on a broken path and continue to watch souls go the wrong way. I love being Catholic and I want others to see why… An ordained priest, including Catholic bishops, cannot spread the Good News on Sunday and then, on Monday, decide to ignore the impudence of the Nancy Pelosis, Joe Bidens, and Chris Matthews of the world… An ordained priest, including Catholic bishops, cannot feed the hungry souls when he is more interested in playing footsie with politicians… [This book is an excellent read.]
THE PROBLEM IS THAT FAR TOO MANY BISHOPS HAVE CHOSEN TO AVOID, DENY, OR OTHERWISE IGNORE WHAT IS FUNDAMENTALLY THEIR FIRST AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY – THE SAVING OF SOULS…
My task is not to create disunity but to shine light on what is true according to Catholic teaching versus to what is being peddled by some as new pabulum-like strain of Catholic mush… I have been told that our persistent requests that the bishops courageously stand on the laws of the Church is nothing more than denigrating the office of the bishops… Certain bishops have told me that the interpretation of Catholic Church law is not any of my business and that they have their own lawyers to guide their decisions…
There will be those who will decry this work as just another attempt to criticize the Catholic bishops and spread false information among the faithful and the secular world. Such allegations are nothing. They are but an extension of the gobbledygook I have to live with for many years… Today it is nearly impossible to distinguish the Catholic American from any other American. This is unhealthy, not only for the Church but for America as well…
To be clear, we Catholics should proudly stand as witnesses to what is right and just… As Catholics in America, our primary goal must focus on bringing Christ to the public square and standing firmly on the truths taught to us as Catholics… Believe or not, nowhere in Church documents can we find a definition of the ordained priest as partisan politician, lobbyist, or labor leader… As shepherds serving in direct lineage with Christ’s first apostles, the Catholic bishops have a solemn responsibility to feed their people the spiritual nourishment necessary for the flock to grow in its love of Christ,
The involvement of the U.S.C.C.B. in the health care reform debates has made it quite easy to define the reasons, the motives, and the results of a hierarchy that is largely – but not totally – politicized first and Catholic second… For its own sake, of course, there is nothing wrong with political compromise. That’s what politics is all about. But when political posturing is used to water down or misrepresent Catholic teaching, an immense problem results…
It is no secret that the leadership of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops U.S.C.C.B… has taken the moral currency of Catholic doctrine and, to a large degree, squandered it on securing seats at the table of the political and cultural powerbrokers in America… First came the near silence during a political process that resulted in the election of the most pro-abortion, anti-Catholic individual in the history of the United States – President Barack Hussein Obama… It is obvious that something quite disturbing has happened to Catholic identity in the U.S. Catholic structures, such as schools & hospitals, have grown dependent on government financial support…
