A Catholic Election Prayer

A Catholic Election Prayer
The website – cinops be gone – Tuesday, October 28, 2008

This prayer is an election prayer to Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ:

O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time in our history, we entrust the United States to your loving care.
Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son, Jesus. Overwhelmed with the burden of sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths or our hearts, and seek refuge in your motherly protection.
Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of your people. Help us to recognize the great value of human life, and to accept the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Mold our hearts after the heart of your Son, and make us meek and humble. Give us docile hearts that listens attentively and joyfully to the voice of Holy Mother Church, so that our consciences may be formed according to the truth. Give us pure hearts that that are willing to embrace what is truly good, and pleasing to Jesus.
Free us from the falsehoods that lead people to support directly or indirectly, the intrinsic evils of: abortion, euthanasia, cloning, destructive embryonic stem-cell research, and same-sex marriage. Grant the people of our country the wisdom to follow God’s law, the foundation on which this nation was established. Grant us the grace to knowledge that God alone is the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to proclaim and build a new culture of life, and to reject the culture of death and immorality. Amen

Remember Judgment Day in the Voting Booth

Bishop Robert J. Herman, the administrator of the Archdiocese of St. Louis:
“Judgment Day is on its way,” the bishop wrote in the St. Louis Review. “We cannot stop it… For many, this coming election may very well be judgment day, for this election will measure us.”…
“The decision I make in the voting booth will reflect my value system. If I value the good of the economy and my current lifestyle more than I do the right to life itself, then I am in trouble.”…
“The right of our children to be protected from destruction is greater than my right to a thriving economy,” Bishop Herman continued, “ My desire for a good economy cannot justify my voting to remove all current restrictions on abortion. My desire to end the war in Iraq cannot justify my voting to remove all current restrictions on abortions.”
“Those 47 million children our nation destroyed are still living. We have destroyed their bodies but their souls are still alive. When our Lord comes again, they may very well be there to judge us. … “I was in my mother’s womb but you took my life!”
“It is quite possible that we might see these children, but, depending upon the choices we have made, we may very well be separated from them by a great chasm which cannot be crossed, much as the rich man who ignored Lazarus, the poor man, during his lifetime here on earth but was separated from him after death.”
“Save our children!” he wrote, “More than anything else, this election is about saving our children or killing our children. This life issue is the overriding issue facing each of us in this coming election. All other issues, including the economy, have to take second place to the issue of life.”
