“Quotations” from R.R. Reno in First Things, Aug./Sept/12, “Defending Religious Liberty” p. 3-4

How would the Saints Dominic, Aquinas and Loyola cope with the following secular religious mindset in America?

1) “Religion is at odds with an “inclusive” society, we’re told, because its traditional views on sex and marriage conflict with progressive goals of sexual liberation. As Christopher Hitchens put it, ‘Religion poisons everything.’”

2) “Being themselves largely religious, most Americans think religion is a good influence on American life. However, “only about a quarter (24 percent) of the most secular tenth agreed that religion has had a positive influence on American life.”

3) “A government survey in 1957 found that only 3 percent of Americans said they had no religious affiliation. By 2008, 17 percent said so.”

4) “The secular 17 percent believe that they will inherit the earth, and they are angry that religious believers aren’t accepting their birthright. Yes, very angry and willing to do what it takes to push aside the ongoing influence of traditional religious and moral beliefs.

5) “From their point of view, asserting greater government control over religious institutions is necessary to ensure justice, and involves a legitimate reinterpretation of the boundaries of religious freedom guaranteed by the Constitution.”

6) “Our secular elites increasingly tend to think that religion is a force for evil, and they will continually test the limits of the Constitution.”

Recall George Washington in his Farewell Address, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.”
So it is in your face secularist, we have the original Founding Fathers on our side. Believers came first and built America and secularist came in second. Take your secular religion privately.

The Pope’s meditation for today in his book “Co-Workers of the Truth” hits the nail on the head. “We have lost sight of the fact that Christians cannot live like “everyone else… they belong to a minority and are in opposition … what the New Testament calls, “the spirit of the world.”

When we take a look at the culture around us, the secularist have been war with traditional America for decades. Politics is their religion. For us it something we think about at election time. We are uninformed, misinformed and bombarded daily with the secularist beliefs and the huge money propaganda influence at their disposal. And look what the secular religion has done to America, Chicago, Detroit and other major cities.

Sadly, our President Barrack Obama and the CINOP are fellow travelers, direct and indirect supporters of the secular religion in America. Most of our own parishioners and voters are uninformed. I saw the Obama movie for the second time. It is biographical, fair and narrated by a great American by choice from India, Dinesh S’Zousa.
