V.P. Paul Ryan vs. V.P. Joe Biden

V.P. Paul Ryan vs. V.P. Joe Biden
In pursuit of the truth - cinops be gone - Monday, Oct. 8, 2012

“I repeat the directions I gave you when I was on my way to Macedonia: stay on in Ephesus in order to warn certain people there against teaching false doctrine and busying themselves with interminable myths and genealogies, which promote idle speculation rather than training in faith which God requires.” Apostle Paul to Timothy 1:1-20

(As reported in the New Oxford Review, October 2012 p. 20-21)

“ A group of Catholic [so-called] social-justice activists descended on Georgetown University to protest Paul Ryan’s speech there. As reported by the Washington Post (Apr. 27), they hoisted a fifty-foot sign that read, “Were were you when they crucified the poor?” The protest was organized by members of “Catholics United,” who argued that Ryan’s proposed cuts to Medicaid & other welfare programs contravene the teachings of the Church. [ I have written about “Catholics United” in the 2008 election. It is a divisive Catholic group partially financed by the hateful George Soros and exists to persuade Catholics in this election to vote for Obama.] …

“In his Georgetown speech, Ryan countered the arguments of his Catholic critics. His zeal to reduce the national debt, he explained, is based on moral and religious grounds that have the support from Church teaching and the Pope: “The overarching threat to our whole society today is the exploding federal debt. The Holy Father, Pope Benedict, has charged that governments, communities, and individuals running up high debt levels are “living at expense of future generations’ and ‘living in untruth.”

Acknowledging that that relief of the poor will always be necessary, Ryan advocates allowing local organizations, among others, to play a bigger role. “We are a nation that prides itself on looking out for one another - and government has an important role to play in that. But relying on distant government bureaucracies to lead this effort just hasn’t worked. [Think of Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty.] Speaking directly to his liberal Catholic critics, Ryan said, “There are some Catholics who for a long time have thought they had a monopoly of sorts - not exactly on heaven, but on the social teaching of our church. Simply put, I do not believe that the preferential option for the poor means a preferential option for big government.” His companion argument is that if further financial disaster strikes, if the federal government goes bankrupt, the poor will be the first to suffer.”…

(As reported by Bill Donohue in LifeNews.com - 9/27/12- “No Comparison Between Pro-Life Catholic Ryan and Pro-Abortion Biden”)

“Biden got into trouble with the bishops after his infamous 2008 appearance on “Meet the Pres.” Tom Brokaw asked Biden if he agreed with the Catholic Church on abortion. “I’m prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at conception. But that is my judgment. For me to impose that judgment on everyone else who is equally and maybe even more devout that I am seems to me inappropriate in a pluralistic society.” He also said that in the Catholic Church there has a long been a “debate” on when life begins.

“Following the interview, the bishops weighed in with vigor:

Speaking explicitly of Biden, as well as those Catholic politicians who share his position, Bishop Samuel Aquila of Fargo, North Dakota said, “they really should not be presenting themselves for Holy Communion because it is a scandal.

Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput said of Biden: “I certainly presume his good will & integrity and I presume his integrity will lead him to refrain from presenting himself for Communion.”

Bishop Paul S. Coakley of Salina said, “ … That life begins at conception is a scientific fact, not a personal subjective or philosophical or religious opinion.”

When Bishop Joseph F. Martino of Scranton was asked, “…” No Catholic politician who supports the culture of death should approach Holy Communion,” He added, “I will truly be vigilant on this point.”

George H. Kubeck, The Vice-Presidential debate will be on Thursday.
